Labor Day weekend camping

Great spot for families. A lot of activities for everyone. The adult pool was very nice and clean. My son and his wife kayaked and had a great time. Cape Charles is a quaint town for shopping and is only 10 min away. Only issue we had were the kids on bikes riding in front of the golf cart and cars. No parental supervision. Very scary and unsafe. Other than that it was a great trip and we will be back.

Return camper

I’ve been coming here for 18 years. It’s a wonderful campground if you enjoy water activities, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, crabbing etc. Many activities for small children, along with bingo, karaoke and corn hole tournaments.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE, JUST AWFUL

We stayed 2 days in May 2022. It was a get away for my brother in law before his wedding day. There were 9 of us total. We rented 2 sites. We spent almost$1000 counting the 2 golf carts we rented. During check in, the staff seemed flustered but weren’t rude. They were disorganized and it took almost 30 minutes just to check in. We had a great time the first day. That evening we rode the golf carts around checking out the campground since it was our first time there. That’s when it went down hill. They have a curfew for bikes and golf carts, which I understand for safety reasons and noise issues for sleeping campers. The issue is the approach of the night staff telling people about the curfew. Instead of being polite, they snap at you and belittle you! Example almost word for word:“ Hey where are you going! Why are you driving the golf cart. Didn’t you read the rules??” How about some customer service and kindness for a first offense? The staff drives around golf carts after curfew policing the campground. I overheard our neighbors complain to other campers about the same issue we were having. The next day we decided to play horseshoes. We put a$20 deposit down on horseshoes which will be refunded to you after the return the the 4 horseshoes back to the camping store. You have 2 hours to play. During the first 30 minutes of playing horseshoes one of the horseshoes hit the metal picket/rod and breaks. I have never seen a horseshoe break. Keep in mind we were not playing the game incorrectly or rough housing. We were simply playing horse shoes. We immediately went back to the store to swap the horseshoe for another one. We were told by the staff that it was their only set and they had no more. They then said that the set was brand new and we were the first to use it. They also said they would be keeping the$20 because we broke the horseshoe. We politely asked to speak with the manager, Danielle, who was not in at that moment. We came back to speak with her 20 minutes later. When we walked into the store, her immediate response to us was“ We are keeping the 20 dollars.” Is that how you greet people?! No hello, welcome, or any other greeting?? She then got into an argument with one of the guys in our camping group who was not too happy about the situation and the way we were treated. In the end, we forfeit the$20. BY FAR, THE MOST RUDE CAMPGROUND STAFF I’VE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH IN THE 36 YEARS IVE BEEN CAMPING( I usually camp at least 20 times a season, 26 times last year). WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE, WE WILL NEVER RECOMMEND IT, WHEN ASKED ABOUT IT, WE WILL TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT OUR AWFUL EXPERIENCE. YOU ARE JUST A DOLLAR FIGURE TO THIS PLACE. NOTHING MORE.. Such a shame.

Lots of fun!

Stayed this past weekend at Cherrystone and had a blast! Pools weren’t open yet but there was so much else to do we didn’t mind. Played around on the paddle boats and mini golf (included in site price), swam in the bay, did tie dye and played candy bar bingo! Bathrooms were very clean and private. The sites are pretty close together but everyone was friendly and respectful. Great experience for the kids - We will keep coming back!

Great campground

Use to camp here every summer! Brought my kiddos here, it's the same as I remembered!

Older campground, lots of sites. No real place to swim on the bay, but they do have a pool. Beautiful area.

My favorite campground

We have a blast every time we come here. The bathrooms are clean and updated. There is plenty to do. Pool, beach, fishing, boat rentals, golf, paddle boats, bike rentals, and crabbing. They also have a snack shack that steams crabs, and a restaurant on site if you don’t feel like cooking. They also offer on site charters and sunset cruises for a cheap price.

If you venture into Cape Charles, it’s a neat town with some good restaurant options.

Family oriented

We had a great time here. The sites were clean and spaced out. I didn’t feel like we were on top of each other . I wasn’t a fan of the “beach”. If you are looking at going camping for the beach experience, this isn’t your camp ground. The snack stand sold steamed crabs , which were horrible. I think they have a lot of young staff running the food stands that are clueless on how to work things. Other than that, we really enjoyed the campground.

Huge campground!

We stayed here for 12 days during the pandemic. The campground is huge, with lots of amenities. We stayed in the large sites, in the last row beside the field, which was nice, gave extra parking and extra space to play. The spots for smaller campers looked difficult to find/park, but it was very empty so difficult to say. Nice dog park and dog beach.

The kids will love it

Great camping resort. There is a ton of stuff to here. From miniature golfing to fishing, swimming in one of their 5 pools to paddle boating. A lot to do. It does tend to get crowded. Especially around a holiday. They have a tram that runs constantly that will drop you off at all the hot spots and a bus on site that will take you to the grocery store/ liquor store that is a few miles away for no extra charge. The bus will even take you to Cape Charles and pick you up. It’s good to become friends with the driver. We look forward to going back in October when it’s not as warm for their Halloween events.

A lot of pros and a few cons

My family of six stayed at Cherrystone this past weekend. It was our first family camping trip so a lot of extra care went into selecting a campground. I read a ton of reviews both on here and other places. They didn’t quite answer all of my questions so here comes the review that I wish I had found.

First, how you will feel about Cherrystone is going to depend on what type of camp experience you are looking for. My wife and I prefer quiet places with a lot of relaxation. My kids (ages 4 to 11) prefer lots of activities. My kids got more of what they wanted than my wife and I did. The activities and amenities were absolutely fantastic for my kids. They loved the pools, mini gold, jumping pillows, paddle boats and every other activity that they did. The campground has a safe feeling to it so we didn’t worry about giving the older ones more freedom to explore. They made friends and did whatever they wanted. They loved it. My wife and I had a good time as well but Cherrystone is a little noisier than would be ideal for us. Quiet hours don’t start until 11pm and quiet time isn’t really enforced by the employees. It wasn’t terrible but we would have preferred a little less noise. Some parts of the campground were louder than others. We were on a no hook-up tent site that seemed to be in the quieter part of the campground. Some of the RV sections had a lot of music playing and more of a party vibe.

The employees that we met were all very friendly and helpful. The bathhouses were well kept. This was a big concern for my wife and she was happy. if you knew my wife you would understand how huge that it. The tent sites were of a decent size. We had tow large tents, an EZ Up and the picnic table and didn’t feel cramped. You will be very close to your neighbors so don’t expect any seclusion. The prices in the camp store, snack shack and cafe were mostly fair and the quality of the food items was good. Pretty much every review mentions the sunsets and they are amazing. The natural beauty of Cherrystone is amazing.

Cherrystone offers a lot of value and if you are ok with a little noise and close neighbors you will not be disappointed. If you want more privacy you may want to look elsewhere. I’m pretty sure we will be back someday.
