Located within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware Seashore State Park’s two campgrounds are popular with campers seeking a beach experience. The campgrounds are located on the north and south side of the Indian River Inlet and are connected by a bridge with a separate walking and biking path. Campsites can accommodate a variety of camping units, from tents to large recreational vehicles. Most campsites have 30- and 50-amp electric, and water and sewer hook-ups. Bathhouses and laundry facilities are located in both campgrounds. A camp store on the south side carries convenience items and souvenirs. Amenities and services close to the campgrounds include two restaurants; a full-service marina with a bait and tackle shop, fish and seafood sales, and head boat service; bike and walking trails; and the Indian River Life-Saving Station and gift shop, a must-see. Severe weather may limit availability of some amenities.

Cape Henlopen, just 43 miles southeast of Dover, has the distinction of being one of the United States’ first public lands. Recognized for its beauty and natural features, Pennsylvania founder William Penn decreed that the area should be preserved for the enjoyment of the local citizenry. That was nearly 3.5 centuries ago. Over the course of that time, Cape Henlopen has served several purposes but has always remained accessible to the public. In 1964, it was designated a Delaware State Park. Today, the park serves as an idyllic destination where campers, hikers, anglers and nature lovers can explore and appreciate the sand dunes, pine woods and tidal marshes in the same way the Founders did so long ago. The campground in Henlopen State Park is the perfect base to explore the area and enjoy many of the park’s attractions and activities. The campground offers a variety of tent and RV sites (many with 2-point hookups), walk-in tent sites, ADA accessible sites, and camping cabins that can accommodate up to six people. Amenities include bathhouses with showers, dump and recycling stations, a playground and an amphitheater. Camping is available from Mar. 1 through Nov. 30; seasonal campsite rates range from $20–$59/night; camping cabins range from $70–$130/night. When it’s time to play, the sky’s the limit. Four hiking trails are available for exploring the area’s pine forests and coastal dunes, visiting bunkers and watchtowers in the Fort Miles Historic Area, or taking in views of Delaware Bay and the Henlopen Lighthouse. Stop by the Nature Center and learn about some of the local bird and sea life (bird watching guides available), or take advantage of the park’s Borrow-a-Bike program and take a pleasant ride around Cape Henlopen’s bike path. For fun on the water, take a dip in the Atlantic at one of the swimming areas, try crabbing or surf fishing, or rent kayaks and go for an ocean paddle. There’s also disc golf and sports courts available for getting your game on. With so much to see and do at Cape Henlopen, you might just need to plan a longer visit!

    Delmar, Delaware

Just an hour’s drive south of Dover, Trap Pond State Park is a 3600-acre recreation area that features a freshwater wetland that supports one of the last natural stands of baldcypress trees. The pond was created in the 1700s when it was dammed to provide power for the local sawmills that were harvesting the area’s old-growth timber. Once the trees were gone, the area was used as a drainage for the surrounding farmlands. Finally, in the 1930s, the state acquired the land and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) rehabilitated Trap Pond and surrounding woodland as a nature preserve and recreation space. This created Delaware’s first state park. It has since become a haven for herons, owls, woodpeckers and eagles, and a place where campers and recreationists can enjoy some outdoor time.

The campground at Trap Pond features 142 sites for tent and RV campers. Sites are set in five wooded loops: A, B, and C Loops have back-in sites with full hookups; D Loop has pull-through sites with full hookups; E Loop has primitive, walk-in tent sites. Each site is equipped with picnic tables and fire rings with grills. All camp loops have access to bathhouses with showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, and trash and recycling receptacles; a dump station is available near the campground entrance. The campground also has a picnic pavilion and kids’ playground between A and B Loops. The park also offers several rustic cabins and a couple yurts. Dogs are permitted, but must remain leashed. Campsite rates are $15–$25; cabin and yurt rates are $40–$52; reservations accepted.

The nature center at Trap Pond is a good place to start a visit to the park. Interpretive exhibits and nature programs provide information about the history of the wetlands, as well as its flora and fauna. Once acquainted with the park, it’s time to hit the trails and water to discover more and enjoy the natural setting. More than 10 miles of multi-use trails invite hikers, bikers and horseback riders to explore the woods and wetlands. Paddlers can take to the ponds and explore 2.5 miles of water trails. Boat rentals are available in the park, as well as launches and docks for small watercraft. For anglers, common catches in the ponds include pickerel, crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass. Visitors can also play at the sports courts or disc golf course, or take in bird-watching for waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors.

    Great for kids!

My son absolutely loved this place. There’s anything and everything you could think of available to keep everyone busy. A water park, volley ball field, playgrounds, amphitheater, nature center, nature trails, and boat rentals at the lake.

It is a huge park, with secluded spots available for tent camping, cabins, and regular open spaces for camping rvs with electric hook up. Staff was friendly, campgrounds were well kept. It can get a little crowded but it’s worth it to stay. If you don’t like crowds, I suggest coming during the week days!

    Great for families

My parents took us here for years. Now we take our kids. Located about 15 min from ocean city and assateague with a shuttle to take you when you don't want to drive. Great family activities. We love the water park and Frontier town. I recommend it to anyone looking for a new place to check out.

    Absolutely beautiful bayside campground resort

Beautiful well equipped and appointed campground on the water facing the beautiful Assateague National Seashore, home of the wild assateague ponies. You won’t be disappointed in your stay here! Lots to do nearby and just minutes from Ocean City Md yet away from the hustle bustle. They have two separate beaches even a big one for your fur kids. Which mine thoroughly enjoyed.

    Awesome park

This campground is the best campground I've seen for kids. They have a water park that is included in your stay. The activities are great and your only minutes away from ocean city or Assateague State Par. Where the ponies run wild. Very clean bath houses and the staff are the best around. They also have a wild West show , zip lines , mini golf , ice cream shop all this cost extra but worth it. They also have a pool for just the campground. That doesn't get as crowded as the water park. Very nice park to go to. We make sure to go there every year.

Decent facility and good for kids

This campground isn’t bad, but some things could definitely be improved. The grounds and facilities are nice, but ever other water hookup leaks. The pool area was closed but looks very nice. Cabins look very nice, one of the best camping cabin options I’ve seen. Sites are spacious, but there is zero shade or privacy at all. I appreciate the grass pads, as I’m not a fan of stone dust in my camper. My site had a nice concrete patio area. There are a TON of mostly free activities for kids, which is awesome.

The issue here seems to be clientele. Golf carts are completely out of control with no enforcement by staff. Reckless driving by minors is common. I saw crashes and people falling from carts. Fast driving with a cart full of kids with a thumping stereo and no lights was also a thing. Quite hours start at 11 which is late. I’ve been to a lot of campgrounds with golf carts and it isn’t often an issue. If this was brought under control it would be a much better experience.

Not a bad place for the family.

Very clean camp with all the amenities! Friendly and knowledgeable staff and plenty to do in the area!

This camp offers sites for everyone! There is Cabins, Spots for Tents, xxl RV’s, and more. Close to Ocean City, Assateague and the coolest little town Berlin!

There is a big pond to fish there with bass and bluegill lurking inside and a little camp store for all your basic needs!

Not a bad place for a family getaway or a stop along the way! Prices have gone up but that’s expected with glamping spots.

Plenty of perks with little crowd!

This is our favorite campground! It is close enough to ocean city we can enjoy the beach daily but far enough to relax in the woods! This campground is the small sister campground to frontier town. They have a free shuttle bus to provide transportation to assateaque island, frontier town, and ocean city. Campers here are eligible for discounts at frontier town as well! We tent camp but there are RV sites and cabins as well. There is an arcade, camp store, heated pool, playground, dog park, and mini golfing! The main pavilion has rentals for recreational equipment at no extra cost (hula hoops, balls, etc.) There are also themed weekends and scheduled activities throughout the week! The bathhouses are cleaned many times a day and the showers are spacious enough. The staff here is friendly and welcoming. Each tent site is far enough away from the other that you feel spread out and private. This is definitely a place I recommend to friends and family.

    Camping Resort, All-in--One

Castaways has been making more improvements, if that is even possible. Many different tiers of camping and cabins. Shuttle runs into Ocean City during the season. Pool, stocked camp store, lunch and ice cream available, not to mention the Tiki bar. You really never have to leave once you are set up here.

We've held numerous Heartland Owners Club Rally's here and always drew larger than normal participation. Participants like that they can visit Assateague or Ocean City, both within a close drive

Once you've stayed here, their reservation system make new reservations a snap. They even keep the dogs' rabies information on file! It's like family!

    Shad Landing Campground

Great park, close to many MD Eastern shore attractions

Stayed in a cabin for one night, to scope out location for a longer future stay. Very nice, well-maintained park on the beautiful Pocomoke River. Swimming pool; large marina with café, supplies, canoe and kayak rentals; nature center; boat launch; and more. Shad Landing is the larger, "main" portion of the park, with many camping loops, and all the main amenities. Sites over here are more private than the Milburn area (across the river, about a 25 min drive), but I understand they are renovating several bathhouses this summer, so read the website alerts and choose your loop carefully! Will be returning next month and camping in the Milburn section during our family reunion, and can't wait to write a review for that area!

This park is within an hour's drive (or less) to Ocean City, Historic Berlin, Chincoteague, Assateague, Wallops Island, and many other popular destinations.

    Shad Landing Campground

Close to the ocean without the cost of OC

Shad Landing, along with it’s sister park Milburn Landing, make up Pokomoke State Park. It’s just 45 minutes away from the beach at Assateague Island and an hour or so to Ocean City or Chincoteague. The sites are varied- some are more apt to hold smaller tents than larger ones, there are RV sites as well- cabins too. Each loop, with the exception of Waters Edge have full bathrooms with warm showers and flush toilets. Pets are allowed in some loops. The marina/ park office has a well stocked camp store as well as a kitchen that serves pizza and the like. Boat rental are available as well (try the canoe loop trail) There have been years when we stay here instead of hotels at OC- much cheaper and close to more than just commercial crap. Besides the beaches, it’s also close to the truly excellent NASA Wallops Island center that my kids thoroughly enjoy, as well as incredibly awesome food in nearby Berlin and Pocomoke City. Each site provides a picnic table and fire ring. Most have a lantern hook. In season there is a large swimming pool- free for campers. The nature center regularly holds programs and there are a few hiking trails here and in the nearby Pocomoke State Forest.

    Summertime Getaway

My family had a great time staying at fort Whaley. We had two lodging options, one back in campground for our pull along camper and a 2-room cabin for the extended family. Everything was clean, organized, and amenities like the camp store and putt-putt golf were great additions to our stay. Bathrooms were also clean and spacious for tent campers. It was more expensive than we anticipated. Lots of different types of sites and lodging settings for any kind of camper. Definitely would recommend others visit this place at least once! It’s a close distance to Salisbury (20 mins), ocean city (20 mins) and assateague (20 mins). Also close to Delaware for someone looking to explore there. We also visited a few wineries within driving distance.

    Shad Landing Campground

    Near enough to the ocean

Shad Landing ( and it’s parter site Milburn Landing) offer enough for you to spend a week close enough to the beaches of Assateague, Ocean City, and Chincoteague to smell the ocean. Sites are medium to large. There is one pet loop that is popular with the RV crowd. The park offers a warm shower, clean restrooms, a camp store that houses a small kitchen(pizza, sandwiches, ice cream) and canoeing through a pretty decent water trail. When not blocked by pandemic proposals, the nature center is a hub of educational activity and some great ranger programs. The park can get crowded fast. The eastern shore gets busy quick, even on the weekdays. When open, there is Assateague National Park, Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge, Wallops Island NASA center, and the fun of Ocean City- all within an hour drive. The towns of OC, Pocomoke City, and Berlin all have enough food to satisfy. The waterfront loop has no attached bathroom/showers, but instead uses the facilities under the camp store- a long walk in the middle of the night. There is water available. There is a washer/dryer available as well. Cabins are also available for rent. The one big problem with both Shad and Milburn are the bugs. It gets insanely humid here, and the mosquitoes, flies, and ticks take full advantage- especially if you decide to hike through the nearby State Forest. As of this writing, both the pool and the nature center is closed due to COVID. As well as the Marina and the Camp Store, which we found out on arrival. Wal-mart and Dollar General are just eight miles from the park. As we had already booked the week, we stayed- but without the pool at least and without the presence of the staff and the camp store ( and the boat rental as well) the experience was not as good as it was in the past. Until the COVID restrictions are relaxed and the park gets its amenities back, I cannot recommend staying here as much as I have in the past. The bathrooms in the fox den loop need updated as well- I noticed the doors are rusted and the stalls are very small.

    Location trumps privacy

We don’t always pick campgrounds for their spacious sites and scenic views. BUT we do pick them based on the outdoor activities we can do from the campground itself via bike riding or walking. Since we don’t bring a car location is very important to us.

This private campground is in a fantastic location. Waking distance to stores, water slide park, kayaking, fishing/crabbing from bridges and Biking distance to Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge & Assateague Island National Seashore . There is even a complimentary trolley that will take you to the beach during the “in season”.

You can rent kayaks and bikes from this resort. There is a pool, jumping pillow, and playground. The water park adjacent cost an additional fee. They have 3 day passes and after 3pm packages. (You May also get a discount from KOA front desk)

The campground- tight and efficient with a lot of options for staying here from little cabins safari style tent cabins, rental Rv’s, grassy tent area to full hook up rv sites. We had a premium RV site and since we were here off season in late April- the campground was not super busy. Just expect that you will be in very close proximity of your neighbors and it will be loud and boisterous in the evening. Our solution?? Hike and Bike all day so you are exhausted. That way after dinner and a couple of glasses of wine... you really don’t care.

We came here specifically to experience the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague Island VA National Seashore and the parks did not disappoint. We biked and hiked the the parks but you can easily enjoy a lot of the sites via car. Just know that pets are NOT allowed. There are Ubers in this area. Here is a link to the trail and park map.
    https://www.fws.gov/uploadedFiles/Region_5/NWRS/South_Zone/Chincoteague_Complex/Chincoteague/Chincoteague%20Refuge%20Trail%20Map%20(1).pdf

There is a fee of $10 per car for 7 day pass. Bikers and Pedestrians get in free. (The fee gets you into both parks).

    Happy Camping! Pamela and Keith

    Shad Landing Campground

Solid campground for boating and fishing or heading to the beach

I camped here a few years ago during an April vacation. It was early in the season, so not all the loops were open. Our site in Deer Run had electric and was plenty large and level for our teardrop camper. The bathroom was spotless and shower stalls had all you would wish for, with seating and sufficient hooks. Though we had neighbors, the campground was quiet.

There’s a marina and boat launch, with the marina offering electric and potable water. Boat rentals include canoes, kayaks, rowboats and electric boats in season. There’s a playground for kids. They also have a swimming pool, but in 2021 it looks like hours are limited to weekends due to staffing, so don’t make that the sole reason for camping here. There are several different wooded loops and sites are generally level and spacious with fire rings, picnic tables, lantern poles, and fish-cutting tables.

Note that Water’s Edge loop does not offer electric and the bathroom facilities are under the store. This loop is open year round. Acorn and Deer Run offer electric and the bath house is in the center of the loop. Robin’s Nest loops is open year round and has a mix of campsites with and without electric as well as mini cabins.. The Blue Heron loop has 3 group sites(distinct from youth group sites in a different area). If you have a pet, note that they are permitted in Water’s Edge and Acorn loops.

In addition to the boating and fishing on site, Assateague State Park and National Seashore are about 45 minutes away to the northeast and Chincoteague to the south. Shad Landing made a great base for exploring the area and making a trip to the coast to watch the sunrise and seek out the wild horses. Ocean City is nearby if you need anything tourist-style activities, but this is a great place to get away. If you've forgotten anything, big box stores in Pocomoke City are only 10 minutes away. It’s important to note that the Milburn Landing campground at Pocomoke River is about 25 minutes away and less convenient for exploring the coastal attractions.

    Shad Landing Campground

In 40 years of camping, this is the best campground!

Beautiful camping spot with all the amenities. Loops with electric or no electric, Pet-friendly loops and non-pet friendly loops. I have been camping there off and on for 40 years first as a kid and now with my family. I love to go there every year at all seasons of the year. The best campground I've ever found in Maryland. Close proximity to both Ocean City and Assateague Island.

    Small but beautiful

    Site #271

Full hookups: 20/30/50 amp water & sewer

Very nice/small campground on the Sinepuxent bay. Gets very busy during the weekend, even though it's considered off season but people respect quiet hours. We could hear the live band perfectly from our site which we liked. Not too many planned activities but free shuttle to nearby Berlin & Ocean City.Short drive to all Ocean City has to offer. Clean bath houses and golf cart rental was an added bonus! Highly recommend our site to anyone with littles as you can literally relax at your site while your child plays at the playground! All sites included a fire ring with cooking grate and picnic table. Fairly easy to back in but they do have pull throughs available as well. Site was fairly spacious and campground is SUPER pet friendly!

    Great time at the beach!

We spent a week through Labor Day at Sun Outdoors Ocean City (formerly Castaways) in Berlin, MD, as our final trip of the 2023 season. This was our second visit— and we had a great time!

In addition to a great beach area on the bay, pool, and other amenities, this place is about 15-minutes from the Ocean City beach/boardwalk. They run a complimentary bus back and forth to the Ocean City boardwalk and to Assateague Island which is a great reason to stay here. The bus driver, Becky, was great. She gave us helpful advice and provided easy way to get around without having to drive.

Our site(# 254) was a good size for our motor home. It was partial gravel and partial grass/dirt. It would’ve been nice to have more gravel or grass because I hate how the sandy dirt tracks inside. It backed up to a dense wall of bamboo which makes for partial privacy. We rented a golf cart which made it easy to get around(and entertainment for the kids). Our only negative is that the wi-fi was non-existent which is common among many of the campgrounds we’ve visited.

For the 4-legged campers, there is a designated dog-friendly beach plus dog run and dog wash station. We used it all and are glad they offered these amenities.

In addition the Ocean City boardwalk and to Assateague Island, the town of Berlin was fun to walk around on a day that was too cool for the beach.

The place went from having lots of empty sites earlier in the week to being nearly full by the weekend. And even with so many people, the place was kept fairly clean and quiet at night. The camp store was well-stocked with all the usual stuff plus beer, a cafe for food, an ice cream parlor, and arcade.

Bottom line: We had a great time at Sun Outdoors Ocean City and can’t wait to go back!

THINGS I LIKED: Clean and well-maintained property and facilities Complimentary shuttle to the Ocean City boardwalk and to Assateague Island Proximity to Ocean City

THINGS I’D CHANGE: Give us working wi-fi(please!) Add some gravel to the site to cover up the sandy dirt

Great Camping Near the OC, MD Beach

An awesome campground located on the east coast near Ocean City, MD and the Atlantic Ocean. This was our first visit to Castaways. Lots to do and loads of fun. We love it! our site was roomy and nicely kept. The bathhouse, laundry and pool areas were very clean and looked new! The dock was close by for fishing, crabbing and kayaking fun. We enjoyed the pool and beach areas. Close proximity to Ocean City, MD and we hitched a ride on the campground’s shuttle bus to the beach and had a wonderful time. This campground will definitely become a yearly visit and we look forward to our next stay.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park At Delaware Beaches

    Yogi Bear DE beaches

Campground well maintained and relatively quiet given its peak season for Delaware beaches. Off the beaten path from beach noise but does require a 15-30 minute drive to popular beaches.

Pros: large area for back in campers. Water park free, cheap weekend getaway, has cabins and golf cart rentals. Beautiful pool and water slide and area, not a lot of mosquitoes. Small crowds. Accommodating staff during check in. Cons: not overly secure with gate of campground unsecured like that of other yogi bears. Not a ton for kids to do in weekly schedule. Only 1 bathroom and shower location near pool. Looks like an additional one will be installed soon but not yet built. Tons of ants. Seen kids driving golf carts through camping areas. No presence of security anywhere.

    One Last Summer Hurrah

Overall we had a wonderful stay. The campground is huge and I suggest renting a golf cart (if you don't have one) to unlock the full potential of the grounds.

It was bike week so the campground was a bit more lively than we anticipated but that was more on us for not double checking the events calendar. All the bikers and their families were solid people. One guy even let my son borrow his fishing rod and bait the one evening and just told us to return it after we were done.

It was off season so the waterpark was closed and things were winding down. We knew that to be the case so no knock there. We keep busy on our golf cart rental taking scenic drives, heading to the pier to crab and fish, and a few spirited games of ice hockey in the arcade.

The campground is at a great location to either head towards Assateague Island or Ocean City. We normally stay in Ocean City over the summer in July so we chose to explore more of the Assateague side. With that said, Route 611 has a lot to offer if you have the time to explore.

    • Assateague Surf Shop - amazing breakfast

    • Sinepuxent Brewing  - great beer and smoked pull pork

    • The Shrimp Boat - tasty seafood takeout

    • Assateague Island State Park - beautiful beach and park

My only major con was the trash removal at 5 or 6AM!! It sounded like the trash truck and dumpster were inside our camper. I think that only occurred 2 mornings but it was more than enough. - minus a half star

Also the pricing is a bit outrageous. For all the work you put into set up and prep just to pay close to what you would for a mid level hotel stay is kinda insane. Stayed from Thursday to Monday and it was right around or above the $500 mark for ONLY electric and water hookups.  - minus a half star

Overall we had a very enjoyable time as a family and that was the goal.
