Hills RV Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Sitting directly on Main Street in Plankinton, Hills RV Park is a straightforward overnight stop for RVers crossing South Dakota on I-90. Pull-through gravel sites accommodate rigs up to 50 feet, and several reviewers confirm that 47-foot truck-and-camper combinations clear the lot without unhooking. Full hookups with electric, water, and sewer are available, with water and electric-only sites offered at a lower rate and a dump station on exit for those who don't need sewer.

Sites are level and close together, with some shade trees and a small grass patch at each spot. The bathhouse is wheelchair accessible and consistently described as clean and in good working order. Onsite laundry machines are dated but functional. WiFi is available, though multiple reviewers flag it as slow. Cell service gets mixed mentions. One notable detail for light sleepers: a train passes through around 3 a.m. The pool on the property has been drained at some point and may not be operational, so confirm availability before planning around it.

Donna T. sums up the experience concisely: "Clean, friendly, convenient location just off interstate." A Dollar General sits next door for basic resupply. Owner Nancy draws repeated praise for friendliness and helpfulness. Passport America discounts have applied here in the past. Nearby alternatives include Siding 36 Motel & RV Park to the west, and travelers heading toward the Mitchell area can browse campgrounds near Mitchell for additional stops along the route. Hills RV Park works best for travelers who need a clean, no-fuss overnight with reliable hookups and an easy highway exit.

Visitors often highlighted level pull-through sites and Nancy's friendly management. Good value pricing and reliable hookups make it popular for overnight stops, though wifi can be slow.

Quick convenient stop

This was a great place to stop for one night on my way to the attractions. It’s an older campground and it shows. The owner was wonderful and very helpful. The price was unbeatable and check in was a breeze.

Quiet & Clean

Can't give them anything more than 3 stars unfortunately. We arrived late afternoon for a simple overnight stay. They're literally on Main St. In the smallest downtown I've ever had the pleasure of spending a night. They have a in ground swimming pool. That's been closed and drained in the not so distant past. You'll have a rare opportunity to wash your clothes at their laundromat. The machines are dated yet clean in good working order, a definite plus for many. Even though they're located in a downtown area. It's still dark enough to get a view of the night sky. Campsites are close together. With a tree shading your camper helpful for keeping cool. A small "yard/patch" of grass at each campsite. Our rigs length truck and camper connected is 47'. We were able to pull thru the campsite and park. Without having to unhook. For a simple overnighter that was just another plus in their favor for us. Other campers were just as friendly as the people who owned and ran the campground. Don't expect to do any shopping. There's a Dollar General directly next door. For any basic needs if your so inclined. For us in a nutshell. The price to hookup to electric and water for a overnight stop. Made it a good spot to stop. They do also have sites with sewer hookups available for a higher fee.

Good for overnight

Campground is three stars for amenities. Hosts/owners get 5 stars for friendliness and helpfulness. Campground seems safe/ Sites are level. Bath house adequate and wheelchair accessible. There is shade for some spots. Wifi is spotty and slow. I would stay here again if driving thru.

Good stay!

We stayed at Hills RV Park 6/02/22. It's a good place to stop over on a trip. The site was level, the hook ups were great, the bathroom/showers looked good, but we didn't need them. The sites were pull-through and spaced well enough. There was a train at 3 am, but these things don't bother me. I rather liked it. There were people mowing the grass and working there until dark. It was very tidy and pleasant. I would definitely stay there again.

Nice and Quiet

This campground was a great deal for $20 per night with Passport America.  The onsite manager is very friendly and helpful.  Most of the sites are W/E only with a dump on exit.  there are FHU available for $5 more per night.  The property is well kept and there is a pool on the property for use for an additional fee.  There is a washing machine and dryer and bathrooms.  The sites are level pull through gravel.  They do have wifi, a bit slow though.

Close to the interstate for easy access, yet surrounded by Sourh Dakota corn fields

An excellent choice for staying if traveling across South Dakota. The sites are gravel, but are all pull through. Most are full hookup, but there is a on site dump station for those with electric only. The swimming pool was an absolute total plus for a hot July day. The park owner Nancy is a fantastic host. Definitely a stay again park

Easy Access

Really nice pull through sites with water, electric and sewer. $30 per nite. Some shady sites. Very little road noise. No Bathroom or shower access. Plenty of area to walk a dog with nice grass.
