Best RV Parks & Resorts near Lake Andes, SD

North Point Recreation Area near Lake Andes offers 115 electric RV sites along the Missouri River shoreline with 30-amp service and moderate spacing between sites. Several sites have direct water views and good shade coverage. "This is a beautiful campground to visit. Nice size lots, and lovely scenery," noted one visitor who appreciated the well-maintained grounds. The campground accommodates larger RVs with back-in sites of varying lengths, though reservations are recommended during peak season. Paulson RV Park in nearby Springfield provides 20 full-hookup sites with 50-amp service, sewer connections, and water hookups at each site, catering to RVs needing extended stays.

Reservations through South Dakota's state reservation system are essential during summer months when water activities draw crowds to Lake Andes campgrounds. Most RV parks in the region maintain year-round accessibility, though water systems may be shut off between October and April. A dump station is available at North Point Recreation Area, while Pease Creek Recreation Area, located 9 miles south of Geddes, offers electric sites but with somewhat limited maneuverability for larger rigs. According to one review, "The road in is a very narrow country road meaning the camp and road are better suited for smaller rigs." Cell service varies throughout the region, with stronger signals reported at parks closer to towns.

    Paulson RV Park

    RV, tent, and mobile homes

They had long term parking for campers not hooked up to anything and long term parking for full hookups. No dumping station because most the sites all have sewer. Were able to hook to water through the winter as well. No one else around could hook us up to water. Super cheap too. $200 per month for long term plus electric you are responsible for and $15 per day for short term. Cheaper if you are just going to park or pop a tent.

    Hills RV Park

Close to the interstate for easy access, yet surrounded by Sourh Dakota corn fields

An excellent choice for staying if traveling across South Dakota. The sites are gravel, but are all pull through. Most are full hookup, but there is a on site dump station for those with electric only. The swimming pool was an absolute total plus for a hot July day. The park owner Nancy is a fantastic host. Definitely a stay again park

Modern Campground — Niobrara State Park

Tree shade and spacious back in.

Nice camping for extended stay of 14 days. Different length back in sites with picnic table and fire ring with grill. Camp host available. Handicap pad sites. I would have given a five star except for the cost!

We think $30/day for just electric is expensive but we’d been boon docking so we sprung for the expense for 3 nights. Showers are extra😳. Laundry available.

Little town of Niobrara, just a few miles away has limited shopping but a nice little grocery store, hardware store, museum, and fuel.

Confluence of the Missouri and Niobrara Rivers.

Nebraska State Parks have walk up and reservable spaces. We usually risk it and easily found a walk up on a Monday afternoon after the weekend crowd left.

We stayed in the RV campground but took a bike ride around the rest of the park. We stopped at the park office and chatted with assistant superintendent Nate. Very nice guy with lots of good info.. He told us about a nice loop we could continue our bike ride and we went around the picnic and tent area. Some incredible exclusive sites and great views of the Niobrara.

CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY Another issue that has become an increasing problem is Aquatic Invasive Species .(AIS) which is spreading in the United States. There are different types of AIS and they are being spread by several methods. Boaters, of all types, help spread or help stop the spread by taking care of their watercraft. Before leaving a boat launch practice the CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY technique. Many states require a AIS permit before you place watercraft in the water.

    R & R Campground

Couldn’t ask for more from a highway stop

This is a full-service campground directly alongside I90. Even though it’s adjacent to the interstate, we really didn’t hear any highway noise. The park has full hookups with both 30 and 50 amp sites. The water pressure is great and the water/sewer connections are well-placed. The sites are level and many are well-shaded. There is a small convenience store with ice and a couple of other essentials. There are restaurants and other amenities within walking distance. Everything is very clean — the laundry room is spotless. The host, Julie is exceptionally hospitable, friendly and accommodating. If you’re just passing through or just want a centrally located spot from which to explore the area, you’re unlikely to find a better spot.

    Mitchell KOA

    Family Friendly Stop Over

We stayed at the Mitchell KOA one night as a stop over on our way to Custer, SD. The feature we liked best is that all RV, 5th Wheel/Camper sites are set up as pull through. We called while on the road to see if they had any open spots, and they got us in for the night:) The campground hosts were very welcoming and friendly. There is an outdoor pool, but it was pretty crowded (With temps in the 90's who could blame anyone!!!) and they have a cute little miniature golf course too!! This is a pet friendly place with a large fenced in area for your pets to play in. The only drawback we saw was the lack of trees for shade and privacy. You can literally shake hands with your next door neighbor while sitting at your picnic table.

Guide to Lake Andes

The Lake Andes area sits at around 1,500 feet elevation along the Missouri River in southeastern South Dakota. The region features rolling prairie landscapes with wetland habitats that attract migratory birds, particularly during spring and fall seasons. Summer temperatures typically reach the 80s while winter lows can drop below freezing, with campgrounds generally busiest from May through September.

What to do

Birdwatching opportunities: Big River Marsh RV Park offers access to prime waterfowl viewing areas. "The convenience of this full hook-up RV Park and its close proximity to the Missouri river boat dock makes this park one of our favorites. So quiet and peaceful for me and my husband while on our annual river waterfowl hunt," noted one camper who appreciated the location for wildlife observation.

Water recreation: North Point Recreation Area provides multiple water access points with boat ramps and swimming areas. "Beautiful and peaceful setting on the Missouri River. If you pick a site on the water (as we did) you can enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Missouri River and the rolling hills of the southern shore," shared a camper who enjoyed the river views.

Fishing options: Pease Creek Recreation Area offers fishing opportunities with less crowding. "A wooded campground, about .25 mile walk/drive to the river. Clean bathrooms and vault toilets. Nice shoreline to stroll along with dogs," mentioned a visitor who enjoyed the shoreline access for fishing and walking.

What campers like

Shaded sites: Famil-E-Fun Campground features mature trees providing natural shade. "Campground is small, wooded with mature trees and shade. Was about 1/3 occupied on weeknight but scheduled to be full over holiday weekend," noted one camper who appreciated the natural setting despite its proximity to I-90.

Spacious waterfront camping: North Point Recreation Area offers sites with direct water views. "Although the park was full when we visited (July) we had plenty of space on either side of us and it was surprisingly quiet given that the camp was full," shared a camper who found the experience surprisingly peaceful despite high occupancy.

Clean facilities: Pease Creek Recreation Area maintains well-kept bathrooms and showers. "Clean bathrooms and showers, water provided so it worked out good anyways," mentioned a visitor who found the facilities satisfactory despite the lack of staff presence during their stay.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Many rv parks near Lake Andes, South Dakota operate year-round but with reduced services in colder months. "Open year round but Oct 1–April 30 water sourced amenities may be shut off," noted a North Point visitor, highlighting the importance of checking service availability during shoulder seasons.

Reservation requirements: White Lake Lodge & RV Campground provides convenient overnight stops for travelers. "Clean, convenient campground with friendly people including staff and fellow travelers," shared a camper who appreciated the accessibility for short stays along I-90.

Site sizing limitations: Some campgrounds have restrictions for larger rigs. "The road in is a very narrow country road meaning the camp and road are better suited for smaller rigs," explained a Pease Creek visitor, pointing out access challenges that aren't immediately apparent when booking.

Cell service variability: Connectivity differs between Lake Andes camping areas. "Verizon connection was good and I could stream live TV on Hulu," reported a camper at Famil-E-Fun Campground, providing useful information for those needing to stay connected.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Hills RV Park offers a swimming pool for families during summer months. "We stopped at Betts for a night on our way to the Black Hills and it was a great stop. Cabin alternatives: Famil-E-Fun Campground provides cabin rentals for families without camping gear. "Family friendly, with tent and rv/camper sites. I was hammock camping and had just enough trees to do so," mentioned a visitor who noted the variety of accommodation options.

Tips from RVers

Budget-friendly options: Paulson RV Park offers affordable extended stays for RVers. "Super cheap too. $200 per month for long term plus electric you are responsible for and $15 per day for short term," explained an RVer who appreciated the cost-effective pricing structure for longer stays.

Overnight convenience: Many campgrounds near Lake Andes offer simplified check-in for one-night stays. "We texted the host asking for a spot and got a quick response back. We parked in our spot and put the payment in a box," shared a Paulson RV Park visitor who found the process streamlined for quick overnight stops.

Hook-up options: The Lake Andes area offers varied rv hookup configurations. "They had long term parking for campers not hooked up to anything and long term parking for full hookups.
