Boulder Woods Campground in Green Lane offers tent sites, RV hookups, cabins, and glamping options, while Nockamixon State Park Cabins in Quakertown provides cabin rentals within a larger outdoor recreation area. Many facilities in this eastern Pennsylvania region accommodate various camping styles, with sites often positioned near lakes and wooded areas that provide both recreational opportunities and natural scenery.

Camping availability throughout the year depends on the specific location, with some sites like French Creek State Park Campground operating year-round while others such as Quakerwoods Campground and Tohickon Family Campground maintain seasonal operations from April through October. "Most sites are level for RVs but the patio sloped downhill and we could not use our picnic table or find a level spot for our chairs," noted one camper describing the terrain at a nearby KOA. Water and electric hookups are common at developed sites, though amenities vary significantly between state parks and private facilities.

Evansburg State Park offers both tent and RV camping with some electric hookups and access to trails, while Deep Creek Campground at Green Lane Park provides tent and RV sites with fire rings and picnic tables in a more rustic setting. Campers report appreciation for water access at several locations. According to one visitor, "The campground is right on the Brandywine River which is a slow meandering pretty river that is great to get your feet wet or go for a paddle." Many campgrounds in the area feature family-friendly amenities such as playgrounds, swimming pools, and activity centers, with the more developed private campgrounds typically offering full hookups, shower facilities, and camp stores.

Washington Crossing State Park - TEMP CLOSED FOR 2024

      Revolutionary History near Delaware River

Nestled along the picturesque Delaware River in beautiful Bucks County, Washington Crossing Historic Park is one of those destinations where American history practically jumps out from behind every tree. This sprawling, beautifully preserved historic park commemorates George Washington's daring Christmas night crossing of the Delaware in 1776, with charming colonial buildings, expansive green spaces, shaded walking paths and lovely riverfront scenery. Divided into Upper and Lower sections, the park offers plenty to explore, from historic homesteads and interpretive exhibits to scenic picnic areas and the impressive Bowman's Hill Tower. Unfortunately, while the park delivers a wonderful outdoor experience, traditional overnight camping isn't part of the equation unless your a Boy Scout or accompanying one of their troops.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spectacular Revolutionary War history at the very site of Washington's legendary Delaware River crossing; (2) Beautifully maintained grounds featuring mature trees, open lawns and scenic riverfront views; (3) Fascinating colonial-era buildings, historic demonstrations and educational exhibits that bring America's founding history to life; (4) Wonderful recreational opportunities, including walking, cycling, fishing, kayaking and picnicking; and (5) Convenient proximity to charming New Hope, the Delaware Canal towpath and Bowman's Hill Tower, offering plenty of opportunities to extend your adventure.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) No conventional public tent or RV camping, with overnight group camping restricted to organized Scout groups by prior arrangement; (2) No dedicated RV campsites, electrical hookups, water connections or dump station; (3) Park grounds generally close at sunset, limiting opportunities to linger into the evening; (4) Some historic buildings and attractions require admission fees or operate on limited schedules; and (5) Periodic restoration projects and special events can restrict access to certain areas, while the historic Washington Crossing Bridge's three-ton weight limit makes it unsuitable for larger RVs.

      Happy Camping!

      Lowe's - W Windsor

Upscale Parking Paradise at This Home Fixer-Upper

Located just off US Route 1 in the upscale Princeton area, this spacious Lowe's serves up a surprisingly pleasant patch of pavement for weary road warriors looking to catch some shut-eye. Set back roughly 80 yards from the highway, this big blue home improvement retailer offers a generously sized parking lot with relatively manageable traffic, good maneuverability and a quieter atmosphere than you might expect from such a busy suburban retail corridor. The western and southern edges of the lot are particularly appealing for an overnight stay, and with Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several other retailers nearby, convenience certainly isn't in short supply. Better yet, the store management was friendly and accommodating when we called ahead to arrange our overnight visit.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spacious, paved parking lot with plenty of room to maneuver larger rigs; (2) Convenient access to US Route 1 and nearby I-95; (3) Western and southern parking areas offer quieter spots away from the busiest customer traffic; (4) Excellent nearby conveniences, including Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several dining options; and (5) Friendly store management that welcomed our overnight stay, plus surprisingly good opportunities for outdoor recreation nearby.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) Some daytime retail traffic and occasional road noise, although nothing terribly disruptive; (2) No RV hookups, dump station or dedicated overnight camping facilities; (3) Parking areas closest to the store can become crowded during business hours; (4) Limited greenery and little of the scenery you'd expect from a traditional campground; and (5) While the overnight experience was excellent, this is still a commercial parking lot rather than a destination for an extended stay.

      Happy Overnighting!

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      100 Mile View Camping

      The best views

This is a hidden gem, as close to dispersed camping you can get with dirt, gravel roads, large stone fire pits, a amazing views with the added benefit of a five gallon jug of non potable water and very clean port-a-potties. The owner regularly patrols the site and makes sure everything is okay.

      Round Valley State Park Campground

Peaceful Wilderness Escape for Adventurous Families

There's something wonderfully special about escaping into nature where the only sounds are rustling leaves, birds singing and the gentle movement of water along the shoreline. Nestled among the wooded hills surrounding the beautiful Round Valley Reservoir, this rustic SP campground offers families a chance to disconnect from everyday distractions and enjoy a little wilderness adventure together. Unlike traditional campgrounds, the campsites are accessible only by hiking or boating, so getting anywhere here requires some planning and a willingness to travel light. Once you've arrived, you'll find secluded, wooded campsites with picnic tables, fire rings and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Amenities are basic, with pit toilets and no showers, but the beautiful reservoir, scenic hiking trails, fishing and kayaking opportunities more than make up for the lack of modern conveniences. Our kids loved exploring the woods, spotting wildlife and gathering around a crackling campfire at night to share stories beneath the stars. For families comfortable with the hike, I'd recommend choosing one of the campsites along the reservoir shoreline for the lovely water views and peaceful surroundings. Just remember that swimming is limited to the park's designated beach area. Round Valley isn't your typical family campground, but for adventurous families who enjoy hiking, camping under the stars and making wonderful memories together, it's a beautiful place to experience nature at its finest!

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

    What to do

Disc golf courses: Boulder Woods Campground offers an extensive disc golf course that attracts enthusiasts from around the region. "The spots are tight to get into but the staff will offer to park your camper using your vehicle. I let them park mine and I'm really glad I did. It was super tight. Gorgeous place though. They also have a disc golf course and they rent and sell discs. That's where we fell in love with disc golf," notes one visitor to Boulder Woods Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Green Lane Park provides fishing access in a peaceful setting. "Phenomenal disc golf course, hiking, and fishing," states one camper who visited Deep Creek Campground at Green Lane Park. The park offers multiple water bodies for anglers of various skill levels.

Hiking trail networks: The trail systems near Souderton camping areas provide various difficulty levels. "Great park to do everything outdoorsy including, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and fishing. I caught a beautiful Brown Trout here a few weeks ago!" shares a visitor to Evansburg State Park Campground, noting the diverse outdoor activities available within a short drive of campsites near Souderton.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: French Creek State Park Campground offers well-designed camping areas with adequate space. "All sites have a paved level area which made set up a breeze. Sites were not on top of each other. Bathrooms were very nice and clean with large showers. Nice area to wash dishes. Very nice playground area and clean," explains a camper at French Creek State Park Campground.

Water access: Many campgrounds in the Souderton area feature lakes or streams that campers enjoy. "Great for family fishing and paddle boarding," mentions a visitor to Nockamixon State Park Cabins, highlighting the recreational opportunities at this popular destination.

Scenic surroundings: The natural beauty of the area enhances the camping experience. "The campground is clean but the sites are way too close together and there is not any privacy," notes one visitor to Green Lane Park, though they still appreciated the "lovely park" aspects of the camping area near Souderton.

    What you should know

Site conditions vary significantly: Some camping areas near Souderton have challenging terrain. "We had a great Halloween weekend but we were down by creek so it was very muddy. Everything else about this campground was great!" shares a camper at Tohickon Family Campground, highlighting how location within a campground can affect experience.

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds require advance booking, especially on weekends. "We got lucky to be around a family who fosters kids with special needs and understands Him. I would say bring your kids bikes... it's a nice relaxing, wooded area. Loved it and everyone was so nice," explains a visitor to Boulder Woods Campground who was able to secure a last-minute spot.

Seasonal operations: Operating schedules vary across facilities. "Stopped over for a night on a drive, good cell service and lots of foliage between sites keeps them pretty private. Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds offer child-friendly play areas. "We went with friends for a weekend. Both families have little kids and it was a great spot with a playground, construction digging area, and a bunch of activities for the kids to do. Special activities: Check for scheduled events when planning your trip. "We loved our stay at this park, and plan to return. We tented in loop D…the only bad part was that it was kind of hard to find a level and rock-free spot large enough for our tent, but we managed! There is lots of hiking, the lake is beautiful, at least two playgrounds (perfect for our kids), the bathrooms were well maintained," notes a family that visited French Creek State Park.

    Tips from RVers

Site access challenges: Some RV sites can be difficult to navigate. "The tent spots are pretty much on top of each other, not much privacy. It's next to a farm so the sunrise is pretty nice. They deliver firewood to your site, and the staff is friendly," reports a visitor to Quakerwoods Campground, highlighting the tight spacing that can be challenging for larger rigs.

Hookup availability: Utility connections vary between campgrounds. "Nice new gravel and hook ups. Spacious sites. Large stream with fishing. WiFi good. ATT poor," shares a reviewer about Tohickon Family Campground, noting the quality of the site infrastructure.

Staff assistance: Many campgrounds offer help with RV positioning. "The RV spots seem nice and large. The bathrooms were nice and clean, showers were nice. There are a few bath houses that make the large camp ground have easy access to the bathrooms which I appreciated," explains a Boulder Woods Campground visitor, highlighting the helpfulness of campground staff with parking assistance.
