French Creek State Park Campground welcomes pets in Loop C exclusively, providing tent, RV, cabin, and glamping options for visitors traveling with dogs. The pet-friendly section features fully accessible bath facilities with hot water showers and outdoor utility sinks for washing dishes. Sites in this loop offer electric hookups with paved, level pads measuring approximately 45 feet in length. All dogs kept on leashes behave well throughout the campground area, creating minimal noise disturbance for neighboring campers. The spacious sites include fire rings with cooking grates, sturdy picnic tables, and sufficient shade from the surrounding trees and brush, which also provide privacy between campsites.

The 7,526-acre park offers 35 miles of hiking trails accessible directly from the campground where leashed dogs can explore alongside their owners. Two lakes, Hopewell and Scott's Run, permit fishing and non-motorized boating while providing scenic areas for dogs to cool off after trail excursions. During summer months, owners should note that dogs are not permitted in the swimming pool area. Wildlife encounters require vigilant pet monitoring throughout the park. Camping with pets requires adherence to quiet hours policies and prompt waste cleanup to maintain the cleanliness of facilities. The surrounding area features pet-friendly attractions including Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site and St. Peter's Village, both offering additional outdoor exploration opportunities where leashed pets can accompany their owners on day trips from the campground.

What a great place. So unique! Love the view, and a great experience! There are no hook ups, so be prepared but if you are looking for the dispersed camping experience you have found it. What a gem!

Washington Crossing State Park - TEMP CLOSED FOR 2024

      Revolutionary History near Delaware River

Nestled along the picturesque Delaware River in beautiful Bucks County, Washington Crossing Historic Park is one of those destinations where American history practically jumps out from behind every tree. This sprawling, beautifully preserved historic park commemorates George Washington's daring Christmas night crossing of the Delaware in 1776, with charming colonial buildings, expansive green spaces, shaded walking paths and lovely riverfront scenery. Divided into Upper and Lower sections, the park offers plenty to explore, from historic homesteads and interpretive exhibits to scenic picnic areas and the impressive Bowman's Hill Tower. Unfortunately, while the park delivers a wonderful outdoor experience, traditional overnight camping isn't part of the equation unless your a Boy Scout or accompanying one of their troops.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spectacular Revolutionary War history at the very site of Washington's legendary Delaware River crossing; (2) Beautifully maintained grounds featuring mature trees, open lawns and scenic riverfront views; (3) Fascinating colonial-era buildings, historic demonstrations and educational exhibits that bring America's founding history to life; (4) Wonderful recreational opportunities, including walking, cycling, fishing, kayaking and picnicking; and (5) Convenient proximity to charming New Hope, the Delaware Canal towpath and Bowman's Hill Tower, offering plenty of opportunities to extend your adventure.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) No conventional public tent or RV camping, with overnight group camping restricted to organized Scout groups by prior arrangement; (2) No dedicated RV campsites, electrical hookups, water connections or dump station; (3) Park grounds generally close at sunset, limiting opportunities to linger into the evening; (4) Some historic buildings and attractions require admission fees or operate on limited schedules; and (5) Periodic restoration projects and special events can restrict access to certain areas, while the historic Washington Crossing Bridge's three-ton weight limit makes it unsuitable for larger RVs.

      Happy Camping!

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      100 Mile View Camping

      The best views

This is a hidden gem, as close to dispersed camping you can get with dirt, gravel roads, large stone fire pits, a amazing views with the added benefit of a five gallon jug of non potable water and very clean port-a-potties. The owner regularly patrols the site and makes sure everything is okay.

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

      Echo Valley Campground

Big sites with lots of trees

We only spent the night and didn't look at the amenities. The manager was very friendly and accommodating.

      Tohickon Family Campground

      Simple, peaceful FHU

We stayed just a couple nights here on our way north. The camp host was helpful before our stay and during check-in. Our site was pretty isolated from the others, so it was very quiet (no complaints here). There is a decent mix of sunny sites by the river and shady sites under the trees. The weather was perfect mid September. There wasn't anything spectacular for me, but it was a good experience and it was a nice taste of fall PA scenery. Beware that the roads are tight for a big rig. Side note, it did seem like most campers lived there.

    Guide to Birdsboro

French Creek State Park Campground offers cabin accommodations across several loops with varying amenities. Located in Chester County approximately 8 miles from Birdsboro, the park sits within the Hopewell Big Woods, Pennsylvania's largest remaining contiguous forest. With elevations ranging from 450 to 850 feet, the park's terrain creates diverse camping environments from lakeside settings to secluded woodland sites.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities at multiple lakes: Scotts Run Lake and Hopewell Lake contain warm water fish species for year-round angling opportunities. "There are two lakes in French Creek, Hopewell and Scott's Run and each contain many species of fish. We spent Saturday afternoon fishing but not catching anything at Scott's Run. It's a beautiful location and it was still a fun way to spend the day with the kids away from the site," notes a camper at Hibernia County Park.

Hiking trail networks: The 35+ mile trail system accommodates different experience levels and connects directly to some camping loops. "We went for a small hike around the lake - we were toting three kids, one of which was in a stroller," reports a visitor at Blue Rocks Family Campground, which offers "access to a lot of amenities, all the while keeping a 'primative' feel."

Boulder field exploration: Unique glacial rock formations provide challenging terrain for climbing and exploration. "Our children loved to climb all over the rocks, that is where they spent most of the time. Primitive but fun!" shares a family who stayed at Blue Rocks Family Campground.

    What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Many campgrounds feature wooded sites with natural barriers between neighbors. "All sites have a paved level area which made set up a breeze. Sites were not on top of each other," mentions one camper about French Creek State Park.

Well-maintained facilities: Clean bathhouses and amenities are consistently mentioned as highlights. At Spring Gulch Resort Campground, a visitor noted, "the bathhouse had individual bathrooms and showers. Each was pretty clean and spacious."

Seasonal activities: Campgrounds frequently schedule events throughout the camping season. "They had a craft show in the barn which was nice," reports a Spring Gulch Resort visitor. Another camper at Lake-In-Wood Campground shared, "We went for the weekend and loved it. Already looking to book another trip. Very clean campground."

    What you should know

Pet policies vary significantly: Dog friendly campgrounds near Birdsboro often restrict pets to specific areas or loops. "Loop C is the only loop that allows pets," explains a camper who stayed at Sun Valley Campground. "All of the dogs were well behaved, and we didn't have any problems as we took our walks around the loop."

Seasonal operating schedules: Many campgrounds close during winter months or operate on limited schedules. "This campground is only open on the weekends, in season," notes a visitor to Hibernia County Park, which typically operates from May through October.

Neighboring attractions: The area features historical sites and natural attractions within short driving distances. "Surrounding area features pet-friendly attractions including Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site and St. Peter's Village, both offering additional outdoor exploration opportunities," according to French Creek information.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. "There is a very nice playground situated conveniently between the loops of the campground. It had some slides, a bridge, lots of monkey bars, ladders to climb on and the best feature was the zip line. All kids and adults agreed it was the most fun!" shares a visitor to French Creek State Park.

Water activities beyond swimming: Area lakes provide alternative recreation during hot weather. A visitor at Lancaster-New Holland KOA reported, "The campground is very clean, nice spots with gravel and nice views. The store was stocked well with essentials, and the women running the store was very helpful and friendly."

Campsite selection for families: When booking sites, consider proximity to bathhouses and playgrounds. "We stayed in Loop C, which is the only dog friendly loop in the campground, on sites 35, 37, 39, & 40. Thankfully, a short walk to the bathroom facilities for us tent campers," noted a family camping at French Creek.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the Birdsboro region have uneven terrain. "Our site was a drive-through but slanted. There wasn't much room on our site to do anything else," explains an RVer who stayed at Lake-In-Wood Campground.

Accessibility considerations: Road conditions and site configurations vary significantly between campgrounds. "The roads were very tight and you really had to watch how you drove through because of the trees," warns a visitor about Lake-In-Wood.

Hookup availability: While many campgrounds offer electric sites, full hookups may be limited. A camper at Sun Valley notes, "The sites are nice. 90% of the people here are full time." For weekend visitors, consider water tank capacity needs before arrival.
