Sunset Springs Campground & Event Center

    Add pricing information

My experience here was awesome! It's literally less than 15 minutes drive to loudenville, there are a lot of amenities for guests, and the sights to see are to die for! The only thing left to desire is on the description page it should have a list of prices for each camping style, (i.e. trying, rving, pull behinds and so on n so forth.)

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Beautiful but Buzzy

I booked one night here for the amenities on a cross-country trip.

The laundry, showers, and water fill stations were convenient/ well-maintained.

    I gave only 4-star however 2 reasons.

    1. for the 5hr lawn mowing caravan that started at 7am in every direction. I’m not even sure what they were mowing since the lawns looked freshly cut. It was obnoxious! And
    2. not enough signage. For example, I had to ask for directions to the laundry rooms and then they are quarter only with no change machine. I had to make a trip back to the office for change.

Overall, a nice spot with all the amenities you could need. Plenty of room and nice multi-use trail to the beach was great!

    Mt Gilead State Park Campground

    Small, quiet campground

We like this small campground, it works well for us. Our pad was pretty level and not hard to back into with a small camper. however, a lot of the pads are at 90° angles instead of 45° so it can be harder for a larger camper back in. The full hook up side the sites are really tight together. The electric only sits are spread out a little more. Some have decent shade while others have none at all. Our site was really nice and had space for a tent or you could hang from a hammock. Great camp store, playgrounds, frisbee golf, hiking paths and small lake.

Guide to Sullivan

Sullivan, Ohio sits at the western edge of the Appalachian foothills with an average elevation of 1,100 feet. The camping season extends from late April through mid-October, with typical summer temperatures ranging between 65-85°F. The area's glacial history created rolling terrain with small lakes that now form the backbone of the region's camping opportunities.

What to do

Fishing in multiple lakes: Rvino - Camp Hiyo offers two fenced dog parks along with fishing opportunities. A camper noted, "Nice park, two fenced dog parks. Bathrooms were clean."

Hiking nearby trails: Findley State Park Campground features extensive trails through wooded areas. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths! The roads are paved and excellent for biking and skating," shares one visitor.

Water recreation: At American Wilderness Campground in nearby Grafton, campers can enjoy both swimming and fishing. "We loved the beach and the fun we have had this is our favorite place to camp," a visitor remarked about the property's water amenities.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Mohican State Park Campground receives positive feedback for its maintenance. "As far as tent camping goes, it does not get any easier than this. Everything is clean and well organized. Perfect for first time campers," notes one reviewer.

Family activities: Many campsites organize regular events for families. "There are three fishing lakes, one for boating, a pool, weekly cornhole tournaments, horseshoes, a small playground, and activities planned," a camper shared about Rustic Lakes Campground.

Space between sites: Campers appreciate properties that provide adequate separation. "We have enjoyed the shade at our site this week and the space between us and our neighbors," mentioned a visitor at Findley State Park Campground, highlighting the well-designed layout.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Many camping spots near Sullivan, Ohio fill quickly during peak season. A camper at Findley State Park noted, "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Site variations: Campsite quality can vary significantly within the same property. "I would recommend doing a some research on campsites as they range from small to large for the same price. The original site I booked was a tent site too small for 2 tents," advised a camper at Findley State Park.

Seasonal availability: Charles Mill Lake Park Campground remains open year-round, unlike many area campgrounds that close for winter. "Open and almost full on 5/30/20. We stopped for one night on our way from VT to CO," reported a traveler, indicating the campground's popularity even outside peak summer months.

Tips for camping with families

Look for organized activities: Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park offers extensive children's programming. "Large campground with a nice mix of seasonal and overnighters. Clean common areas. Nice pool, camp store on site with a nice selection of camp gear. Snack bar with pizza, ice cream etc. Tons of planned activities for the kids," reports one family.

Consider water safety: When camping near lakes, verify safety measures are in place. A camper at American Wilderness noted, "We had a nice time the place was clean and the people were nice as in other campers we had a good time we went to the pavilion to a get together."

Pack for weather changes: The Sullivan area experiences rapid weather shifts, especially in spring and fall. Temperature swings of 30°F within 24 hours aren't uncommon, so layered clothing is essential for family comfort.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling needs: Several campgrounds require additional leveling equipment. At Charles Mill Lake Park, one camper observed, "The campsites were small, very uneven and dirty. We saw seasonal campers with four and five cinder blocks holding up one corner or another."

Electric service reliability: Check which power hookups are available at your chosen campground. "Electric went out several times over the weekend," reported an RVer at Charles Mill Lake Park Campground, highlighting the importance of backup power options.

Water access locations: At many camping spots in Sullivan area, water hookups aren't available at every site. "Had electric at our site, not water. Shared water very close," noted a camper at Charles Mill Lake, describing a common setup throughout the region.
