Awesome!

Beautiful views, good trails, nice sites. A lot of fun here. Will be back soon!

Great campground

This was our first trip in our first TT (33ft), we’re complete rookies! We had site 68 which had plenty of space for the TT, truck and car to park. The sites have plenty of separation and the park was very quiet. We talked to several fellow campers and all were very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be making another trip there next year for a quick weekend getaway.

Secluded

They have a handful of sites that are more secluded and not right on the driveway loop. I've only camped in loop C and find it more quiet and less crowded than loop B. Probably because this loop only has toilets in the restroom. Showers are in loop B, which is a 5-7 minute walk. During holiday weekends the sites closest to the shower facilities are fully booked and have less privacy. They are usually reserved by larger groups. Plenty of beautiful walking and hiking trails in the park to enjoy. This campground is well maintained and routinely monitored by park rangers. There's a $20 National Park entrance fee that's in addition to the site reservation.

Something for everyone

This park has a sad history and is probably haunted, but it’s got ocean bay views, fishing, and historical recreations to visit. The campground is really nice, with water and sewer connections on the tulip loop. We used the web site to reserve our site ahead of time, and got a really sweet spot! There are a few mosquitoes, so don’t forget your spray. COVID-19 precautions have closed everything indoors, like the little museum, nature center, play ground and camp store.

Beautiful campground

Beautiful campground. We were in Tulip loop with full hookups. Very private large sites. Wooded with tall pines. The stars were amazing! Could see the Milky Way and every star in the sky no light pollution. Nice beaches and pet beach for our dogs.

Nice weekend getaway.

Lots of fun, water everywhere. Nice beach, and nature center, with historical information about the civil war.

Mosquitos, Overgrown & Quiet

We chose this campground based on proximity to work. This campground was priced fairly, however, it does come with its downfalls.

PROS

Let me start with the positive, we were 1 of 3 campers in this loop during our week-long stay. This made it peaceful and quiet.

CONS

It's close to a Naval base, and therefore you constantly hear airplanes, and helicopters at all times.

Other than the daily bathroom cleaning, this campground lacks maintenance on sites and walkways. They are both overgrown.

Playground, fishing, archery all seem blocked off at this time.

Trails seem open but are across and through hunting areas. They are also muddy from the rain. There is even standing water around our site which brings us to…the MOSQUITOS! We tried fans, tiki torches, and many deet free or light deet products before having to buy 100% deet so we could be outside. These things are awful!

Full Hookup State Park

Sites along the Tulip Loop are full hookup with 30 & 50Amp. The sites are large and naturally isolated by a thick wall of reeds. This creates a pleasant environment where you’re not trading air with your neighbors.

This is the southern most point on Maryland’s western shore, where the Chesapeake and Potomac converge. Bring a fan and some bug spray and you’ll be just fine.

We stayed in site 73 with a 29’ travel trailer and had ample room for our truck. I suspect we had one of the larger sites available.

Great County/State Park Even in the Off Season

My wife and I stayed here in mid-November to visit our daughter and her family for her birthday. They work on a first-come-first-serve basis. The campground is apart of a greater recreational park area. It's easy to miss the sign for the camping area, so keep your eyes open. Once you find an open spot, you have to go to the main office area across the main road to check-in.

They have back in, pull through, and group sites. The park is surrounded by residential neighborhoods, but their's enough of a wooded area to get that camping quality. We paid $23 a night with water and electricity. The dump station is toward the entrance.

We stayed for 4 nights, but they have a 14-night maximum. There's plenty of space between each campsite, so you don't feel like you're on top of anyone. They are pet-friendly but expect proper pet etiquette.

We really enjoyed our experience there. We were able to take our young grandchildren across the street to the playground area where they have multiple jungle gyms designed for different age groups. The kids had so much fun when it was time to go, they didn't want to leave. My daughter now takes them to the playground for a fun day out.

The nice lady at the office told me that during the summer the campground fills up fast, so Tuesdays and Wednesdays are your best chance to find a spot.

RV restrictions

Prince William Forest has been a destination for my family for over 35 years. Staff is friendly and helpful.

RV’s are allowed, but not all RV’s fit. Their website states that “Trailers and fifth wheels are limited to up to 26 feet in length and 12 feet in height and motor homes up to 32 feet in length and 12 feet in height.”

No hookups, but a fantastic destination!
