Chopawamsic Backcountry Camping — Prince William Forest Park

This National Park Service backcountry area requires a 2.5-mile hike from the parking area, where campers find the only pit toilet. Sites cluster around the trail loop with no campfires permitted and no water sources available on-site. A reservoir sits beyond sites 3 and 4, though filtering this water for drinking remains questionable according to visitor reports.

The forested setting provides tent sites around Prince William Forest Park for those seeking a more primitive experience. Adjacent MCB Quantico may generate automatic weapons fire during daytime hours. Chompawamsic Backcountry Area — Prince William Forest Park offers another hike-in option less than a mile northeast for campers wanting similar backcountry access.

Chompawamsic Backcountry Camping

All of the sites are located around the 2.5 mile hiking trail. There is a pit toilet located at the parking area. You have to hike to your sites from there. No campfires allowed, and bring water. There is a reservoir just beyond sites 3 and 4, but I wouldn't trust filtering that and using for drinking etc. MCB Quantico is right next door, so you may hear automatic weapons firing throughout the day.
