Quaint but adorable

The hosts, who just recently bought this campground are very kind and accommodating. It will eventually be a KOA.

We came in the fall, and the foliage was beautiful. There are many little areas to walk and explore in the campground.

We have a TT and our campsite had wifi, a fire ring, and full…

Remote and private

3 secluded spots on a dead-end road. Wooded, path to the lake. Each site includes fire ring and picnic table, and share a pit toilet. Strictly carry-in, carry-out. Road into camp is dirt and some of it can be rough. Cars can make it just go slow. Atv trail access from camp - can ride to Lincoln,…

Wilderness camping on a river beach

The Omaha Beach campsite is part of the Penobscot River Corridor. Coming from Millinocket on the Golden Road (about halfway between Millinocket Lake and Abol Bridge), you'll see a turnoff to the left for "Debsconeag Campsites 4.5 miles." This is a rough road that I traveled with my Subaru Forester,…

Serious Middle of Nowhere

To reach Third Machias Lake, take the Little River Road (which runs north off the Stud Mill Road along the east side of the Machias River). Turn left after 4 miles onto a side road that leads to the boat launch. This is a logging road, beware of log trucks. Pull OVER when you see one and let them…

Starting point for a Katadhin adventure

There are drive up tent sites and lean to sites as well as walk in sites (fairly short walk and easy to locate). Great place to start for an adventure to summit katadhin and tackle knifes edge. I will definitely be back. Hiked past chimney pond (another campsite) with great views of the mountain.…

Serene and peaceful

Stayed here before we hike Katahdin. So quiet and relaxing. Nice wooded sites, with good privacy. Clean.

Great base camp for climbing Katahdin

We booked a night at a lean-to in Roaring Brook Campground so after we climbed Katahdin we wouldn't have to drive home. The hike took all day, but at the end we had a great place to chill! A dip in Roaring Brook (pretty cold one, I must say) and a small campfire with a BBQ capped off a fantastic…

  • The morning after the big hike, we hiked over to Sandy Stream Pond early morning.
  • Spotted one resident forging for breakfast.
  • Walk in lean-to #11 is off the beaten path and provided us a great place to chill post hike!

Roaring Brook

Pleasant campsites with fire pits. Stars are incredible at night if you can get enough of a clearing. Only downside are some of the rangers who make all attempts to scare people away from doing any of the more strenuous hikes to the top. Some of the most annoying rangers I've ever encountered.
