## Overview

Thunder Ridge Campground, located above the Rampart Reservoir, is one of two campgrounds within the Rampart Reservoir Recreation Area. The campground overlooks the reservoir, which is popular for fishing. Boating and hiking are also common activities for campers here.   
  
The campground is located on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, due north of the popular Pikes Peak. The peak has an altitude of 14,110 feet and is America's easternmost peak reaching over 14,000 feet. 

## Recreation

Rainbow and mackinaw trout are plentiful in the reservoir and hikers can enjoy the trails in the area. Rampart Reservoir Trail is nearby. Rampart Reservoir Trail extends for 14 miles and is open to hiking and mountain biking. 

## Facilities

Three campsites and two of the vault toilets meet current accessibility standards. Most remaining sites have steps that lead below the road level to the site picnic table and campfire ring. Drinking water is provided and each site comes with a picnic table and campfire ring. Firewood can be purchased on-site.

## Natural Features

The campground overlooks the Rampart Reservoir in a ponderosa pine forest at an altitude of 9,200 feet. The surrounding terrain includes a mix of grass meadows, spruce, Douglas fir and aspen. 

## Nearby Attractions

The U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs offers tours, and a visit to the quaint town of Green Mountain Falls makes a great day trip.

Cancellations

Individual Campsites: Cancellations up to 2 days before a reservation start date incur a $10.00 cancellation fee. 

A visitor who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee including tax and applicable add-on for a campsite.

Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.

No-Shows

A no-show visitor is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date.

No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, taxes and applicable add-on for a campsite. 

Refunds

Visitors may submit a refund request through their Recreation.gov profile within 7 days of the end date of their reservation. Refunds will not be issued after the 7 days has ended.

Refunds for debit or credit card payments will be issued as a credit to the original bank or credit card used to pay.

For check or cash purchases, Recreation.gov will mail a Treasury check for refunds of cash, check, or money order payments to the address associated with the reservation. Treasury check refunds may take up to 6-8 weeks to arrive. 

In the event of an emergency closure, the Recreation.gov team or facility manager will refund all fees and will attempt to notify you using the contact information within the Recreation.gov visitor profile.

Thunder Ridge

## Overview

Painted Rocks Campground is located a short distance from Manitou Lake Picnic Area and the Centennial Bike Trail in central Colorado. The rustic campground is named for the sandstone outcroppings in the area that resemble colorful streaks from an artist's paintbrush.

## Recreation

The paved, accessible Centennial Bike Trail is a half-mile from the campground. It connects to nearby Colorado and South Meadows Campgrounds, and leads to 5-acre Manitou Lake. Visitors enjoy riding bicycles on this trail to Manitou Lake for fishing and bird watching. Waterfowl and songbirds are often seen in the area.   
  
The nearby Rainbow Falls OHV Trail System and North Divide OHV Trail System are recommended for off-road vehicle enthusiasts.

## Facilities

The campground offers single-family sites on two loops. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. Vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided. Roads and parking spurs are gravel.

## Natural Features

The campground is nestled on the edge of a grassy meadow at an elevation of 7,800 feet. Most sites on the west loop are shaded by ponderosa pines, while sites on the east loop are more open and less shady. 

## Nearby Attractions

The town of Woodland Park is located approximately 7 1/2 miles south of Painted Rocks Campground, where campers can find gas, groceries, dining and shopping. Colorado Springs is about 30 miles southeast of the campground and offers many services. Garden of the Gods is a popular attraction just outside of town. This free City of Colorado Springs park offers hiking trails, rock climbing routes, a visitor center and cafe. Pikes Peak lies west of Manitou Springs, which is about 25 miles from the campground. Visitors can hike, bike, or drive to the summit of this beautiful mountain.

Painted Rocks

This campground is located 1.7 miles east of Woodland Park on Rampart Range Road, FDR #300. This campground has 13 sites. This is a standard, non-electric campground. Firewood, shelter, and water are not provided.

From Eastbound I-70, go **SOUTH** (right) through the flashing caution light (about 7.7 miles). The first gate on the right is where we are located!

​From Westbound I-70, go forward through the stop sign. Turn **SOUTH **(left) on Kiowa-Bennett Road. This will take you OVER the Interstate. Continue south through the flashing caution light (7.7 miles). The first gate on the right is where we are located!

**Precautions**:

Please note that this is a working ranch, as well as our home, school, and businesses. We may be out when you arrive. Feel free to walk around and see the animals. We do have 6 working dogs that will probably greet you before we do. They are friendly and will "go home" when told to. Their names are Dixie, Ringo, Brandy, Riptide….and the puppies are Willow and Saban.

There are insects, goats heads, and snakes present. Hard as we try, the ground erodes when it rains and is not always level. We recommend leashing your pets as we don't have an enclosed dog area built yet…. coming spring 2023!

The wind can blow a lot out here.

Please don't feed the animals, as they have special diets (and we don't want anyone to be bitten). Be diligent in hand washing after handling any of the animals. Keep a close eye on kiddos aged five and under.

You may hear gunfire as the coyotes are bad for all of the ranchers out here. If you are interested in brushing up your skills we do have a range on site with an additional dedicated archery range.

Babies are born usually in bad weather at night, and we may be assisting them with headlights on in the field. It is not our intention to disturb our guests, and we try to be as respectful as possible to you and your sleep. The roosters however, we cannot control their morning songs.

Rampart Reserve

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city! Located at an elevation of 6476 feet above sea level, on an 80-acre horse ranch in the heart of Elizabeth Colorado, home to the PCRA Rodeo the Elizabeth Stampede (since 1966). This magical getaway was built by hand over 4 years, with love, sweat, and tears... and with help from some special friends. Treehouse Magic was built around PAL, a towering Ponderosa Pine Tree, that is allowed the room to grow and sway gently in the breeze. This wonderful space is magical in every way! .300 sq. feet with an 1100 sq. foot deck...

When you first arrive at Treehouse Magic you will pull underneath the deck which also serves as a carport! Enjoy the game room with a ping pong table, darts and Giant Jenga, before you make your way up to the treehouse!

Remember to "Mind Your Noodle" when walking up the stairs!.. Welcome to the outdoor deck spaces. On the East side, enjoy a propane fire pit with 4-rocking chairs, and an outdoor kitchen with a pellet grill and smoker. On the West side a table with 3 point umbrella, a hanging hammock and the Cabana Room!! The Cabana room is an outdoor/indoor space with lounge chairs, a couch, CordaRoy bean bag (that opens into a bed topper for the couch), rolling table, pop-up tent, cots, a movie screen and a smart Roku projector to stream movies! Upon entering the treehouse you will be transported to another world! Stand at the door for a moment...look at the green green grass and look up and see the treehouse within the treehouse! Magical Gnomes jump in and out of (handpainted worlds) and watch over the treehouse and its guests, spreading their magical love wherever they go!! The main section of the treehouse has the gathering room (with a smart Roku TV and PS4 game station. The couch can pull out to create another sleeping space. The kitchen has a 2-burner propane stove and small refrigerator and everything you may need for cooking a meal. Complimentary coffee is provided by Dancing Jaguar Coffee. 4-generation coffee farmers in Honduras, who package and label it right here in Elizabeth! It is truly amazing!! The bathroom is truly a place of wonder... the whole off-grid system has many scratching their head with a big smile on their face... "ah-ha", shower in the horse trough with a rain faucet and take some time to "ponder" while using the composting toilet and squatty potty! Up the steep staircase, you will land at the drawing-room, where you can write a letter or color in the many activity and drawing books. Take notice of the "mouse house" at your feet and the many worker ants that were vital to our success! Through the barn door, into the private sleeping quarters. A 14" gel foam, full mattress will ensure a wonderful rest. There is also a couch that opens to another full bed. Across the drive to the East enjoy the outdoor horseshoes and corn hole area and tire swing, as well as another eating and relaxing space. If you are bringing your 4-legged best friend/family member, there is a 3/4 acre fenced-in yard. You can allow them to run off-leash in your company. Also, 2 more hammocks and a table and chairs. If you prefer to cook with good ole charcoal, there is a grill and charcoal available. Enjoy a hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate at the Relax Shack at the top of the South 40 acres, with views of the mountains and the roaming Horses, Llamas, and Alpacas...A MUST EXPERIENCE! \*\*Running water unavailable Dec-April. We have mule deer, black squirrels, chipmunks, red foxes, coyotes, cotton tail rabbits, elk, eagles, hawks, stellar jays, bluebirds, black bear and more.



Mydnyt Mountain

The Rampart Range Recreation Area provides a unique setting for off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts to enjoy a variety of riding experiences. From intermediate to expert riders, ATV or motorcycle, the Rampart has something for everyone. Please make sure you are prepared and ride within your abilities. Changing conditions, natural hazards, as well as oncoming traffic may be encountered. Please become familiar with and obey all local rules and regulations. Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) are available for free at your local USFS office or can be found at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/psicc/mvum.

We also have a fishing pond, stocked with rainbow trout, a retro arcade, 24/7 lounge serving locally roasted coffee each morning, playground, and laundromat.

We’re outside the city lights at the base of Pikes Peak- 7600 feet elevation – yet our proximity to all the area’s many attractions makes us an ideal location for families looking for a summer adventure or folks just passing through for a couple of days. Lone Duck Campground and Cabins

Set within beautiful Ponderosa Pines, Casey Jones RV Hideaway is a perfect spot to park your camper or pitch your tent and enjoy a relaxing atmosphere right here in Elizabeth, CO. We offer 22 RV sites with 50/30 amp service and water and sewer hookups. We currently have 2 sites that only have the 230/50 amp hook up and water at a reduced rate. We have a dump station on the grounds as well as restrooms. The campground is open year round for RV camping. Tent camping is only available during the summer and fall season - call for availability. Campground includes use of the dump station for permitted campers during their stay. Dump station may be used by registered campers only.

Restroom/Shower building is located a short walk north of the campground, next to the rodeo arena, in a red building with white trim.

Getting Around:
We recommend that you have a four wheel drive or all wheel drive car to access the property in the winter and muddy times of the year. The Tree House is located on a beautiful operating ranch! Please enjoy the area but please do not get to close to any fences or animals. We suggest bringing any groceries or food as the location is  the perfect getaway!

The Space:
Welcome to your fairy tale log cabin tucked among the evergreens. Step inside the split-rail fence and follow a pathway lined with tiny lights to your front door, noticing along the way a whimsical gazebo-shaped structure just steps from the main house.
 
As you step into the cabin, breathe in a room designed to mirror the refreshing mountain heights with a high, peaked ceiling with wood paneling and exposed beams. Log walls provide a rustic backdrop to a comfortable, contemporary sitting area with soft, inviting furniture, a TV, and fireplace. A screen door leading to the back deck permits the circulation of fresh mountain air.

At the opposite end of the room, an expandable leg table with two chairs provides a space for intimate meals or a relaxing game of cards. From here, you have an unobstructed view into the wide-open kitchen with its country-white cabinetry and the full-size appliances you___ll need for home-cooked meals, including a refrigerator, stove, and microwave. You___ll also appreciate the addition of a coffee maker, water filtration pitcher, and cooking utensils.
 
Your bedroom is a snug haven with exposed log walls, a queen bed draped in a country quilt, a ceiling fan, and a tremendous double-wide closet. Hotel-grade linens are professionally laundered after every visit. The bath is appointed with contemporary fixtures including a spacious, glass-walled shower stall. Tucked inside a cupboard outside the bedroom, you___ll find a stacked washer and dryer for your convenience.

When you step onto the deck from the main living area, you___ll find yourself perched on a wooded slope with a set of stairs leading to ground level. The deck provides a comfortable, private space for cuddling or enjoying casual outdoor meals. A cushioned bench is perfectly situated in front of a mini-firepit, and you___ll also find a pair of comfortable chairs and a table.

Just steps from your front door, you___ll find the jewel of the property: a fully enclosed, furnished gazebo with windows all around. Enter through a sliding glass door and find a bright, flexible space suited to a wide range of activities. Enjoy a tufted sofa, a caf__ table with seating for two, a ceiling fan, and a bar cart. Let the sun flood through the wrap-around windows, or pull the blinds for privacy. Finally read that book, or create your own wine tasting. The room is yours.

The Neighborhood:
Cascade is ideally situated for the traveler who wants to explore the Colorado Spring/Pikes Peak region to the fullest. This is where the Pikes Peak Highway begins, leading you up-mountain to the 14,000-foot-high summit of Pikes Peak.

Tucked in the Rocky Mountains, Cascade is surrounded by outdoorsy delights, including hiking trails, canyons, rafting adventures, hunting, ziplining, and much more.

Cascade is a mere 24-minute drive to Colorado Springs where you___ll enjoy award-winning dining, shopping, and cultural experiences.

The region abounds with museums and natural wonders, including sites like the 300-foot-tall rock towers of the Garden of the Gods, and opportunities for unique regional experiences like fossil hunting or viewing native wildlife. The town of Cascade offers casual dining options, and a 10-minute drive to Woodland Park multiplies those options with familiar national dining and shopping chains, as well as supermarkets.

Getting Around:
We recommend that you have a car or use Uber or Lyft when traveling in the Pikes Peak Region. We're happy to provide bus schedules and maps too if you'd like to use public transportation. The paved roads fully maintained by El Paso County Department of transportation. If your reservation is in Fall or Winter Season please know that a 4x4 or AWD vehicle is recommended in case Mother Nature decides to share some snow. The roads can be slick even after the plows go by - best to wait until the salt trucks come out once the storm has passed.

-We do not have onsite maintenance or cleaning unlike hotels. All requests will be taken care of ASAP and in the order that they have been received.
- Unfortunately, the indoor fireplace is out of order for now. 
-Central AC units are best kept at 68 degrees or above. Due to the lack of humidity in the area if the thermostat is lowered below 68 degrees it is possible that it can freeze the unit if it is working too hard. Unfortunately, it will take 24 hours for the unit to defrost before an HVAC specialist can service it. Our evenings are generally cool in the summer time, simply opening the windows will provide extra natural coolness. 
-Please review the sleeping arrangements prior to booking. 
-Please keep all trash secure in the bins. Do not leave any trash out overnight for your safety and the surrounding active wildlife in the city's area. 
-The TV's offer streaming services only for guest's to use their subscriptions. Just don't forget to log out!

Last, it___s your vacation, so you probably don___t want a lot of RULES. So think of these more as our strong requests:

- NO SMOKING inside. This includes Colorado___s newest cash crop.
- We provide fresh sheets, towels, hand towels, wash cloths, and essentials like shampoo, soap, toilet paper etc.
