North Round Mountain

Accessible via an unpaved but well-maintained road off Highway 24, North Round Mountain provides dispersed camping with designated sites and fire rings throughout Pike National Forest. The main access road handles RVs and larger rigs without difficulty, though campers should drive slowly over the rocky terrain.

Multiple designated sites spread across the area behind the developed Round Mountain campground, each equipped with fire rings. Large boulders and rock formations dot the landscape, creating natural play areas and exploration opportunities. Tree cover provides some shade, while distant views of Pikes Peak appear through the forest canopy. Cell service varies by carrier, with AT&T providing stronger coverage than Verizon's 1-2 bars.

The area attracts both tent campers and RV users seeking a more primitive experience than developed campgrounds offer. ATV activity occurs in the surrounding area, particularly during summer months, which can create noise during peak seasons. "You can see Pikes peak off in the distance behind the trees," notes johny R.. No water source runs through the camping area, so visitors must bring adequate supplies.

Campers preferring full hookups and amenities can consider the nearby developed Round Mountain campground just down the road.

Many visitors appreciated the spacious dispersed sites with fire rings and remote atmosphere. ATV noise and partying can be issues during busy periods, though quieter times offer solitude. Basic amenities only - bring water and firewood.

Cool rocks, can see Pikes peak

This is a nice little dispersed campground. The main road is pretty good. You can see Pikes peak off in the distance behind the trees. The area is covered by these big rocks and boulders which makes walking around fun. There is atleast 1 very large site for a medium size rig when you first pull in on the left. Other than fire pit no real amenities. Was literally no one around for miles in october. 1-2 verizon bars depending.

Nice place to sleep under the stars

We got there late at night and it was plenty of space. Unpaved road but no problem to get there with a campervan. Really close to the hwy but not noisy at all. Good option to spend the night.

ATVs, Dust, noise and a lot of drinking

I wanted to stay here based on past reviews, but the place was full of ATVs.  It was loud, and there were many campsites where people were partying.

This was in late June, so maybe it's different at other times.

Nice Area

Stayed here for a week. Nice area with numerous spots available. Seems to be a fairly new designated dispersed area with fire rings at each spot. Good AT&T service and ok Verizon service.

Come well prepared

Round Mountain dispersed campground

Once you pull off Highway 24 you’ll immediately pass round Mountain official campground. Carry-on up the road and the campsites for dispersed camping are in numerous spots all over the backside of the official campground. It is marked as designated campsites only, but there are a lot of options in this area. There yourself is quite pretty. There are rocks for kids to climb and play on. There’s plenty of three cover. The views are not particularly spectacular, but you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere with nobody around you. We pulled out on a Thursday afternoon and there were a few campers up here, but given the amount of room for everybody, you really feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. There are some ATVs in the area so there could be some noise issues. There is no creek running through the area so you need to have good supply of water. There is also no obvious supply of firewood, so you better come in well-stocked for the time you’re gonna be staying.

Perfekt and free

Directly behind the developed campground is the dispersed camping with a lot of sites. Even for RV a perfekt spot. Wouldn’t go to the campground at the street. The street is accessible for a RV and you don’t need much clearance, just drive slow.
