Paint Rock Springs Campground — St. Croix State Park

    Beautiful, LARGE State Park

The park is VERY LARGE, 33,000 acres! The prairie was beautiful this fall with all the native grasses and plants.

There is a flat, brand new 5 mile paved bicycle path that goes from the campground to the beach. Many hiking trails! The trails along the river are beautiful in October.

The campgrounds, trails, and bathrooms are all well maintained. The men’s bathroom/showers were designed and built well and is very clean. Bath building has a large “family/handicap” bathroom shower room.

MANY BLACK Squirrels in the park!

    Solid option with star gazing

This is a solid state park offering. The sites are decently spaced with good tree cover. Noise seemed to travel between sites, I had some loud neighbors during the day but they settled down before quiet hours. The grass was easy to get tent stakes into. Bathrooms were your basic state park situation. Clean with warm showers so no complaints from me. The star gazing area was great! Intermittently had 1-2 bars of T-Mobile with LTE Internet. Wi-Fi is available at the park entrance.

    Fun at the fairgrounds.

Very nice clean well kept grounds. Always things going at the fairgrounds,we missed the flea market by 1 day. Great places to eat in the area. We were visiting family nearby and they could come visit us for picnics with no problems and no extra cost. Very friendly grounds keepers. Will be back again when in the area. We had a nice view of the little lake.

    Lovely place and people!

We are excited to go back to the Farm! Wonderful atmosphere and if there are any hiccups the hosts are super reasonable and kind, great communication. They gave a warm welcoming and tour right away then left us to our peace. All animals who were out and about were friendly. The grounds were kept very tidy and well put together by any farm standard! I felt very safe letting my 5yr old run around with the other campers and be around the animals.

    Willow River State Park

    Very nice camping

Lovely trails, the beach is a large area with a nice park and picnic area. The water itself is ok, lots of geese and algae. The falls are wonderful though. The bathrooms are fine. I could not find a garbage bin to save my life, not near the bathrooms or anywhere in campground 200 or by the park ranger post. If there were garbage cans dispersed throughout the campground, I would have given 5 stars. Especially along the trail to the waterfalls because there was garbage all along the trail unfortunately. Not the camps fault, but maybe people would be more responsible if garbage bins were placed along the route.

    William O'Brien State Park

    OK but not great

The east part of the park was all closed for construction. Everything on the east side of the highway was closed so we could not hike a lot of the trails or use the beach which was a challenge with kids. Constructing is scheduled to the end of 2025.

We stayed in a group site but there was no way 35 people could have camped in W3. Vaulted toilets need help and a good cleaning.

The shower house needed a cleaning as well. There is no adjusting the shower temperature. Push the button and you get what you get.

Wood was $8 bundle. This was steep in my opinion. They do not all any gathering of firewood.

If your vehicle permit is not properly displayed, you will receive a notice on your windshield and have to talk with the office.

The dumpster was overflowing the whole time we were there.

Raccoons will visit your site at night. We had everything secured but they still tried and plenty of racket until we chased them away.

Lastly we had a battle with mosquitoes. We went through a lot of bug spray and coils. Deer flies were thick around the water filling station.

Although we did not stay in the main campground the sites are very close in there and were small.

Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River

    Fun place

The campground is nice and clean. Good size spaces. The tubing is a plus. Had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off the. It was fine. Also very hot and humid so everyone was running AC to the max. Pool was small but nice. Splash pad was even nice for adults I recommend this campground. Key thing is the river is very clean and sandy bottom.

    Very nice Apple river camping

In June 2024 we had a one day primitive spot on sperry lane you can drive over a tight steel bridge “crossing a small creek. There’s only 3 sites here but are spacious and separated from the rest of the campground but still having walking distance to exceptional bathroom and showers which you can enter into a bar for a cocktail. We enjoyed our spot #3 but bring mosquito spray there were terrible but we had a screened tent which helped. Will definitely return again.

    Great family trip

Through a short weekend trip the camp site was a great size for us. Everyone was nice and friendly especially camp staff. The kayaking/ canoeing was an amazing adventure that everyone should try. It was even great for kids 3 and 6.

    Same day booking

Went early in the season in the afternoon and had no problems getting a good spot with electric hookups. Better for someone with an RV, and more seemingly a weekend spot for the family.

Nice state park close to the twin cities

Stayed here for our first camping of the season. It's a great park that has hiking, mountain bike trails, water features and good mix of electric and non electric sites.

    Banning State Park

    Very nice State Park

Nice well maintained State Park. Some sites (12e) are hard to back a trailer into because the main road is VERY NARROW and not enough radius to back a 24ft trailer using a full size truck, extended cab, with long bed. Nice sized sites and picnic tables.

BRING DRINKING WATER! The water is VERY RUSTY! We even ran the water through a filter and still couldn’t get it cleared up. Sign says better water is by the park office.

Can hear the interstate highway in the park during the night.

    Great trails.

We will try site 34 next time, nice location.

    Rice Creek Campgrounds

Visited from Red Deer, Highly Impressed

Being from Alberta my campground standards are high but I also prefer a neat and simple campsite. When Rice Creek Campground opens up again in April I'd highly recommend going there if all you want is a simple camping experience to get away from the city grind. I had my tent, fire and books to read and was the happiest camper in the world. I went there no joke because my driver from tow truck red deer recommended it and I stopped while in the area. So glad I did!

    Wild River State Park

    Serene times at Wild River

Stayed for two nights at a drive-in double site here and found it ideal for autumn camping. We didn’t think we would get colors, but they came out a little early, adding a few splashes to the hiking and river view.

Site was private enough, the woods surrounding dense enough to obscure others while still feeling open. Also open enough to spot three white-tail deer.

Hike to the Nevers Dam lookout was easy enough for a five year old to walk (most of it) — featuring some very cool fallen trees and a wonderful winding staircase — and the adjacent sandy beach was a pleasant and peaceful surprise.

One complaint is that the nearby vault toilet reeked of amonia and was unusable so we had to walk to the adjacent loop for bathroom. Silver lining is that we discovered the free little library near that bathroom and grabbed a copy of ‘Ramona the Brave’ for the kiddo. We went back and left a copy of ‘Amira’s Picture Day.’

County Road O Landing Dispersed River Camp

    Quiet and easy to find

We arrived in the late afternoon and drove all the way down the road, there are a few spots near the boat ramp and bathroom, but we parked near the trailhead and it was perfect! There were a few hunters out but they weren’t anywhere near us, I’d definitely recommend this spot

    Peaceful and relaxing

We spent two wonderful nights at this homestead farm. We loved the goats, chickens, geese, and the cats. We are not cat people but they had a newly acquired kitty that stole our hearts and entertained us. We laughed and got some great pictures for our family who won't believe we had so much fun with this kitty. It was so nice having a fire in the fire pit with limitless amounts of firewood.  We also had farm fresh eggs for our breakfast and they were the best. It was so nice to just be in the moment of farm life and relax. If you like farms, animals, quietness, and a unique place to get away, then book a stay here. The owners are also authors. We bought their first two books in the series. Started reading the first book and it is one of those "wow" kind of books. We would stay here again for sure!

    Quick Overnight

We stayed here after a wedding en route to Duluth/Superior. Quiet, peaceful night. In the morning, we walked around briefly to say hello to the goats and chickens and to pick a few apples.
