Richardson and surrounding areas in northeastern Texas provide several RV accommodations with varying amenities. Plantation Place in Sunnyvale offers full hookup sites with 50-amp electric connections, water, and sewer facilities. Patriot RV Park contains 68 sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups, suitable for larger motorhomes. Lavon Oaks RV Park features 42 sites with full hookups including 30/50-amp service. Sites at most parks are primarily gravel with limited tree cover, allowing easier satellite reception and big rig access. "We had a nice view of Lake Lavon. Grills and tables vary by site, some are very old, but many have been replaced. The sites are well spaced and are 'mostly' paved with aging asphalt."

Seasonal considerations affect availability at some locations, with several parks open year-round including Plantation Place. Many parks require reservations, especially during weekends and holiday periods. Most RV parks in the area allow pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Dump stations are limited at some locations, with East Fork Park offering one just outside the entrance. Cell service varies considerably across the region, with one reviewer noting "WiFi cuts on and off" at certain parks. Access roads to campgrounds are generally paved but may contain potholes or rough sections. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, "The roads are in need of repair, with numerous potholes, some very large, but the attendant did say that the park was on the CoEs list for repairs."

      The Retreat at Shady Creek

      Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

      Lake Park Campground

      Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

      Traders Village RV Park

      Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

      Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

      Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

      The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

      Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

    Guide to Richardson

RV camping near Richardson, Texas offers several options within a short drive. The area features gently rolling terrain with elevations ranging from 500 to 650 feet above sea level. Most RV parks in this region have gravel or concrete pads with varying levels of tree coverage. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F between June and August, making shade and air conditioning essential considerations.

    What to do

Fishing at Lake Lavon: Several campgrounds provide convenient access to fishing opportunities. At Shady Creek RV Park and Storage, campers can enjoy the nearby lake. "We traveled from West Texas, stayed 4 nights, had rain almost every day. The park is well laid out, small clean well maintained yards," notes one reviewer.

Shopping at Traders Village: The large flea market at Traders Village offers a unique experience. "This location has all your needs for as long of a stay you ever need. Not to mention, one of the biggest flee markets around and it's 2 days of walking and shopping," writes a visitor.

Urban attractions: RV parks serve as convenient bases for exploring Dallas-Fort Worth attractions. "Located in Arlington smack dab in between D/FW. Just down the road from the Cowboys Stadium. 25 minutes to downtown Dallas and 20 to Fort Worth," reports a guest about the urban convenience.

    What campers like

Shade and trees: The mature tree canopy at many parks provides relief from Texas heat. At Treetops RV Resort, "We had the pleasure to stay there during a time to celebrate our friends life. The people that worked there were very friendly and always asked if there was anything they could do."

Laundry facilities: Clean, modern laundry rooms rank high on camper satisfaction lists. "The laundry room is nice, I really like the app that lets you pay so you don't need coins but also tells you how much time you have remaining or if there are machines available," mentions one reviewer about park amenities.

Clean bathrooms: Well-maintained facilities matter to campers. "The bath houses are nice and private. We used the laundry services and everything worked properly," notes a visitor. Another adds, "Cleanest facilities ever. The bathrooms were great and as clean as I've seen."

    What you should know

Bathroom availability varies: Some parks lack bathroom facilities entirely. At Plantation Place, a camper warns, "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups. I get that RVs have bathrooms and most have showers, but never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers."

Road conditions: Access roads at several parks show wear and tear. "The paved road was beginning to break up from all the rain with pot holes and new ones beginning to pop up," observes a visitor about internal roads.

Wi-Fi reliability: Internet connectivity varies significantly between parks. One camper notes, "The Wi-Fi was not good that would be my only complaint," while another mentions, "WiFi worked for my family of 5 the majority of the time for simple things. Hubby works remotely and went to Panera for stronger/faster service."

    Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Several parks offer swimming pools for family recreation. "My boys jumped in the pool even though it was 55° outside and said it was a fun experience," shares a family at one resort.

Playground availability: Lafon's RV Park and other facilities offer play areas. "It is what it is... we needed to do some repairs to our truck after a hell storm, we need to be around the Dallas, Garland, McKinney area, and this is a perfect location, quiet, but yet close to everything we needed," explains a family visitor.

Weather preparedness: Summer heat and spring storms affect camping experiences. "The park is very clean, having done lots of updates. All of the amenities you would want in a park, plus lots and lots of trees," notes a visitor appreciating the shade during hot weather.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Many parks have slightly uneven sites. "Our spot was 171 and was very well shaded, the only thing is our trailer was level but we felt like we were leaning back," shares one RVer about their experience.

First-timer friendly: Some parks accommodate beginners well. A first-time RVer reports, "This was our first time ever in our first trailer ever and it was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a pull thru super. Lots of shade, and the trees were trimmed with plenty of room."

Extended stay options: For longer visits, specific parks offer monthly rates. A long-term camper at Patriot RV Park shares, "Stayed for two months for my husband's work. Park manager, Becky, was helpful and nice. They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp."
