Shady Creek RV Park and Storage

      Family Reunion!

We traveled from West Texas, stayed 4 nights, had rain almost every day. The park is well laid out, small clean well maintained yards. The paved road was beginning to break up from all the rain with pot holes and new ones beginning to pop up. The pads are gravel and almost level. A few guests have been here a while, did see several arrivals and departures. Pet friendly, keep an eye on your pooch as one morning a large dog broke his/her leash one morning and attacked a lady's dog and knocked her down. She was not injured and her doggie is ok. We did not make it to the pool, the patio or to the dog park. All looked great from a distance. Verizon, full bars of service! 🙂

      Patriot RV Park

      Comfortable stay

Stayed for two months for my husband's work. Park manager, Becky, was helpful and nice. They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp. Some sites are a bit tight. We were in the top part of the campground and had no issues with it being real wet. Have heard that the lower area does have pooling of water with heavy rain. It does go away quickly, but should be aware of this if you have lots of outside things or a pet. Would stay here again.

Great North Texas Spot to Explore

About 45minutes north of Dallas which makes easy entry and exit. Very clean amenities, spacious sites, better than average dog park, good amount of grass and walking trails around. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Even had a small fitness room that will work in a pinch.

      Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park

      Nice big fenced RV spots

We stayed here 5 months on a work trip. Nice sites most are fenced in with big yards. A few pull thru sites unfenced. The long term sites are well maintained, the staff do a great job of keeping the place nice. Nice big dog park with a pond, also a grooming and dog wash area. Has a pool with hot tub, and a small playground for the kids. We enjoyed our time here, so unique to have a fenced yard. Only down side is the Texas heat and none of the sites have any shade trees.

      Family Fun

This typically isn’t our type of park but the kids enjoyed it. We went in October and they had some fun Halloween activities. Site was pull through but pretty tight and close to neighbor. Probably worth paying for premium. Nice large dog park and clean restrooms/bathhouse.

      Plantation Place

WARNING : NO BATHROOMS NO SHOWERS

WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups. I get that RVs have bathrooms and most have showers, but never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers. Based on the reviews of others a year or more ago I would have to assume there are no plans for any in the future. As long as you know this in advance and are OK with it, you'll be satisfied here. For me,$36, 2 1/2 hours of an afternoon and a trip to Loves for a 2 showers and all was good but I'd have planned differently had I known.

      Basic necessity for overnight

Place not too bad. Really is just a big parking lot. Parking spots are level and have full hookups. Very nice dog park next door. Eileen helped me on phone. Was very nice. Her number is 817-609-9509. Good for an overnight stop. Near Lockheed Airforce Base so planes flying over.

    Guide to Richardson

The Richardson area offers campers diverse terrain with its proximity to multiple lakes, notably Lake Lavon and Lewisville Lake. Most campgrounds near Richardson sit at elevations between 500-600 feet above sea level, with summertime temperatures regularly exceeding 95°F from June through August. Fall and spring camping seasons provide milder temperatures in the 70-85°F range, making these periods more comfortable for tent campers.

    What to do

Trail exploration at Erwin Park: Located in McKinney, this park provides approximately 9 miles of maintained trails suitable for both hiking and mountain biking. "Great easy spot for day camping or easy car camping with family. Good fire pits and great pavilion at the group site if you can get it. Best mountain bike single tracks around with lots of built features," notes Brian, who visited Erwin Park.

Lakeside fishing: Many campgrounds offer shoreline fishing access without requiring a boat. At Willow Grove Park, campers can fish from multiple points along the shoreline. "I've camped here in winter, summer, rain and sun. Very quiet if you camp away from the pier. You can hear the ducks, geese and cranes on the lake at night. Very peaceful and loved the quiet," shares Cristi M.

Wildlife viewing: The Richardson area campgrounds host diverse wildlife populations including deer, waterfowl, and occasionally coyotes. "We camped at site 39 and it was an asphalt/gravel pad and fairly level. Water pressure was good and there was lots of shade and ample privacy between sites in this section," reports Susan L. about Isle du Bois, adding that visitors regularly spot deer throughout the park.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds feature well-separated campsites that provide privacy even during busy weekends. At Hickory Creek - Lewisville Lake, campers appreciate the layout. "A lot of space between sites, well level and paved, family oriented, very quiet, beautiful lake and tree sites, lighted power supply post with all the amps available. Fire pits, bbq, picnic tables and some with gazebo," notes Reynolds O.

Lake access: Direct waterfront camping provides both scenic views and recreational opportunities. "We hopped over for a one night trip and had a blast! Our site was right off the water with a fun view (at night) of the lake Lewisville bridge. Sites were large enough for us (tent campers) without feeling too close to our rv/camper neighbors!" shares Joshua M., who visited Hickory Creek with his family.

Clean facilities: Campers often mention the well-maintained bathroom and shower facilities. At Cedar Hill State Park Campground, facilities receive regular cleaning. "Large park with a variety of campsites. Shaded areas available. Very clean," notes Karen B., highlighting an important aspect for many weekend campers from the Richardson area.

    What you should know

Site unevenness: Several campgrounds feature sites with drainage or leveling issues. At East Fork Park Campground, campers sometimes encounter challenges. "Pros: Great views of the water and wildflowers in the meadows. Reasonable price. Everything works and the shaded picnic tables are a plus. Downsides: It looks like there could be a lot of water pooled on and behind our site with a heavy rain. The pad has definitely broken up over time and isn't level," reports Melanie and Doug G.

Grass maintenance: Multiple dog friendly campgrounds near Richardson struggle with consistent grass maintenance, particularly during high growth seasons. "Great campground, electric and water. Only issue is the grass is always one high so bring a weed whip. We have family in the area, so we visit regularly and every time we stay here the grass is ridiculous," shares Suzann E. about East Fork Park.

Gate hours: Some campgrounds restrict overnight access, which affects late arrivals or those planning evening activities away from camp. "The entry gate is locked from 10PM to 6AM, so plan accordingly if leaving the park, lest you park outside and walk back to your site," advises Ray & Terri F., who stayed at East Fork Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer playground equipment within walking distance of campsites. "There are several playground areas central to the various campgrounds with easy access for your family. Showers and restrooms are close by the playgrounds as well," explains Matt S. about Isle du Bois Campsites.

Swimming areas: Designated swimming zones provide safer water recreation for families with children. "There is also a fantastic beach swim area for day use or to visit while your camping. Nice sand and roped off swimming areas with large playgrounds," continues Matt S. regarding Isle du Bois, one of the more developed dog friendly campgrounds near Richardson.

Site selection for privacy: Families benefit from choosing sites away from high-traffic areas. "Sites on the point have few trees and wide open spaces, but the lake view is expansive," notes Susan L. about Hickory Creek, pointing out the tradeoff between view and privacy that families often consider when selecting campsites.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup verification: Check specific hookup details before booking, as campgrounds vary widely. "RV sites have water and 50/30 amp electric and there are 12 tent sites. We had a nice view of Lake Lavon. Grills and tables vary by site, some are very old, but many have been replaced," advises Ray & Terri F. about East Fork Park.

Dump station locations: Not all parks offer convenient dump stations at each site. "Absolute newbie here. Campgrounds were beautiful, clean and well spaced out. The only 'negative' I found is that the sewage hook up is not at the actual site. There are dump stations in different places," shares Luis from his Hickory Creek experience.

Dog-friendly amenities: For RVers traveling with pets, dedicated pet areas enhance the stay at Richardson-area campgrounds. At Plantation Place, visitors appreciate the pet facilities: "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups," notes Jackie E., providing crucial information for RVers traveling with dogs who might need these amenities.
