    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

    Shady Lake RV Park

    Overnight Stop

This park is close to highway and great for overnight stay. The park has pull through full site hookups. The park has a pond that is the center of the entire campground. The park has two dog parks available as well for those traveling with pets.

    Two things I loved:

    1. Close to highway quick stay
    2. The pond nice view with ducklings

One thing I didn’t love: Really close to others for extended stays.

    The Waters

    Small monthly RV park

This used to be under another name, but is under new management. The park is now under construction, with a laundry building coming soon. 30 spots.

    • Wifi is okay. Cel phone reception can be problematic without booster.

    • This park is mostly fifth wheels and travel trailers. While our almost 40’ Class A fit on the pad, if we had anything larger than our Jeep Wrangler as a tow would not have fit in our spot. Really meant for 30’ if you have a pickup truck to tow.

    • Nice catch and release pond.

    Bois D' Arc Trailhead Campground

    Numerous Sites!

This is a review of scouting the area. Numerous sites to choose from, some pull thru, some back in. Water, tables, and fire pits at every site. Although the sites are close together there is plenty of space to spread out depending on how busy it is. Heavily shaded. Not sure how effective solar charging would be during summer months. We first scouted it on a Thursday, nobody was there. Pulled thru again a few days later and there were a number of hunters there. Plenty of space for big rigs. Pit toilets on sites, no trash. Would have stayed here, but opted for West Lake Crockett down the road due to stronger cell signal.

    Eisenhower State Park Campground

    All around excellent

I have camped here many times. The park is well maintained and offers beautiful hiking trails and scenery. It is also safe with plenty of staff making rounds to ensure everyone's safety. I have stayed at their pull through camper sites, shelters, as well as tent camping with no complaints. The park is also undergoing construction upgrades and new paved roads ATM but the areas are clearly identified on their website. Definitely a family friendly park with plenty of wildlife to enjoy!

Guide to Ladonia

Recreational vehicle accommodations near Ladonia, Texas offer convenient access to the Red River valley and multiple lakes within a 30-mile radius. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 90°F between June and September, while winter nights can drop below freezing. Annual rainfall averages 44 inches, creating seasonal challenges for campers at properties with unpaved sites.

What to do

Fishing access: Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni provides direct lake access for anglers pursuing catfish and bass. "The campground in late November is about 2/3 full with plenty of space between sites. We have a view of the water and wildlife across the road with no sites to impede our view," notes Mary H.

Hiking trails: Several rv parks Ladonia, Texas visitors enjoy nature walks on developed pathways. "This place is awesome, quiet, they have two different trails to walk on," reports General M. about Hidden Grove RV Resort. Another visitor mentioned, "Chad the general manager came over to say no rush and let us know about the 3 mile hiking trail he has around the property!"

Water recreation: Many campgrounds feature water activities during warmer months. "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp," writes Bobbie S. about Patriot RV Park. For boaters, access to multiple regional lakes provides additional recreation options.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers frequently appreciate larger-than-average site spacing. "The RV spaces are further apart than your average RV Park," notes General M. "The sites were all paved with a nice sectioned off patio spot. There's fair amount of spacing in between each spot for some privacy," adds Tris W.

Swimming pools: Riverview RV and Recreational Park maintains well-kept water facilities. "Roads and Pads were perfectly paved and level. Safe atmosphere with gated access," reports Nick & Allyssa S. Another camper mentioned, "We enjoyed our stay here, it was quiet and we enjoyed the pools at the park."

Clean facilities: Several parks receive positive comments about maintenance standards. "This place is close to anywhere you need to go. The price is the best in the area and they give free high speed internet. They have a nice laundry room and mailboxes on site," notes Sonny R.

What you should know

Site drainage considerations: Some campgrounds experience water management issues during heavy rainfall. At Patriot RV Park, "We were in the top part of the campground and had no issues with it being real wet. Have heard that the lower area does have pooling of water with heavy rain. It does go away quickly, but should be aware of this if you have lots of outside things or a pet."

Road noise proximity: Several rv parks near Ladonia are located close to highways. "Easy pull through, easy reservation, clean park, new clean laundry, level sites, wifi, good water, but very close to I-30 and the price is high $50.00," reports Cris C. about 1770 RV Park.

Restaurant options: Stinson RV Park features an on-site dining establishment. "The Tin Cup is a restaurant that's owned by the park and the food is great. The downside is that there's live music on Saturdays. It's loud enough to be annoying but not loud enough to enjoy. It was still playing after 10:30 pm," notes Lynn W.

Tips for camping with families

Recreational amenities: Lake Tawakoni campground offers numerous family activities. "This campground has several loops that follows the little branches of the lake. There are trails that accommodate bikes, and lots of activities for families and adults in separate areas," shares Mary H. "There are playgrounds, mini golf, ping pong, corn hole, etc."

Kid-friendly water features: Multiple properties maintain swimming options. "We enjoyed our stay here, it was quiet and we enjoyed the pools at the park," Katie B. mentions about Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni.

Wildlife viewing: Several parks feature ponds with waterfowl. "Twinkle lights added charm to entryway to park, and we were visited by a duck from the nearby pond!" shares Sharon about Stinson RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Hookup configurations: Bois D'Ark RV Park offers essential connections with some limitations. "Great location to stay if you are visiting the area of Bonham Tx or just passing thru for the night. Lot of road noise. Also be sure to have a long sewer hose," advises Tammie L.

Pull-through accessibility: Multiple parks accommodate larger rigs with drive-through sites. "Right off I-30, usually has spots available, very friendly people. All sites are pull-through," notes Sharon about Stinson RV Park.

Seasonal considerations: Weather patterns affect camping comfort throughout the year. "Park location is ideal Lake is beautiful many big trees! But roads are terrible, spaces are unlevel, with no uniform length!" notes J.R. C. about Lake Tawakoni. "Biggest ice and snow storm in 70yrs temperatures down to -2degrees below freezing for several days several inches of snow. All park water lines froze, rolling blackouts by the state."
