Gorgeous

Beautiful, spotless sites. Quiet and peaceful, surrounded by tress. Bear country- they are very strict about keeping food inaccessible- park rangers will fine up to 1,000 dollars. Enjoyed the local hikes, very close to Appalachian trail.

Nice, but overcrowded and brutal traffic

Pluses, the staff was great, the place was clean, and the park was close to lots of stuff to do. Minuses, the sites were cramped, and trying to get in or out of the place, to do anything that was nearby, was a pain in the ass. We would probably not stay here again because of the traffic, traffic…

Smokemont to Newton Bald

Smokemont to Newton Bald is mostly uphill with decent elevation gain. The campsite can host up to 8 people with a shared fire ring. This campsite is off the hiking trail.

Campsite #52 is on a slope making it more ideal for the hammock camper. The water is downhill from the campsite (sign for…

Short hike from Deep Creek Trailhead

This campsite is located in the Smokey Mountains on the North Carolina side of the park near Smokemont. It is most accessible via the Deep Creek Trailhead about 3.8 miles away.

This campsite is directly on the Deep Creek Trail. It has a single fire ring and a single set of bear cables. The…

Deep Creek Trail to#60 Bumgardener Branch

From Deep Creek to Bumgardener Branch the hike is about 7.6 miles. Hiking poles are very nice to have on this trail as you will travel through water and over trees. The trail can be washed out near the creek so know the trail. The last 4 miles (part away from the creek) has a lot of ridges to go…

On a slope but off the trail

We did Deep Creek Trail to the loop creek trail to Indian Creek up to Deeplow Gap Trail to Campsite#51. Good signage on this hike, this trail was very easy to travel on. Only a little bit of wash traveling uphill right before campsite #51.

This is one of the newer campsites in the park and with…

Quiet spot backpacking location near creek

This spot would be perfect for beginner backpackers as it's not too far from the trail, not a bad hike in, and is near water access. Located on the North Carolina side of the park along the Chasteen Creek Trail (about 3.6 miles from the Smokemont Campground). The site has 3 fire rings but enough…

Life Changing Senic Views

Had and idea at 2 am the night before to go camping. Next morning packed up and head here. Found this nice place. I’m kinda reluctant to tell people about it because it a small paradise nestled along the banks. I’ve never really enjoyed the mountains, but after staying here I do t think I’ll ever…

Disorganized Avoid and Save Money Time

We stayed there and it was not as advertised. The staff did not know how to do help or cared. Too busy talking with each other acted like running the place was an inconvenience. Really not a good place to stay. Not helpful and somewhat rude. We left and went to another camp not too far away. That’s…

Awesome!

A beautiful campsite. All spots are dispersed and you feel like you’re camping alone. The lake is gorgeous. We caught brim and saw several bass. Easy access in and out. Very light traffic during the day and almost nonexistent at night. You can occasionally hear an engine rev from the road a bit…

Love the Smokies!

Smokemont isn't nearly as good a Campground as Elkmont, but not to say it isn't a really good place to stay. It's clean and well kept. Sites are close together with little to no privacy. The river running through the campground makes up for it. We always see a lot of wildlife in the fields near…

Packed in Tight.

Super pretty spot. A couple trails right there to explore. Place was packed on the Sunday we stayed there. Nasty bathrooms wasn't super well maintained for how busy it was. And campsites are all right on top of each other. Would look elsewhere next time I'm in the area.

Great Hiking

I wish there were showers, but Smoky Mountain NP has so many good hiking trails and some of them start in this campground. Even the easy 1 mile Nature Trail was beautiful.

Mountain view with privacy

This place is exactly what we've been looking for. HUGE spots, and that's even the "small" ones. Great views. Great spot to wander a little with a pet & great WiFi. Bring your computer so you can stream whatever TV or movies you want. Close to grocery stores & TONS of mountain goodness.

  • Site 3 with no one in Site 2
  • "Field" across from Site 3. Hill past fencing.
