Wooded hillside terraces step down toward Melton Hill Reservoir at this TVA-managed campground just outside Lenoir City, where the layout separates RV hookup sites on the upper slopes from tent pads closer to the water. Sites are paved asphalt slabs, many with a noticeable slant that will require leveling blocks for RVs. The campground runs year-round, with rates between $18 and $31 per night, and reservations are available by phone.
The water is the main draw. Tent sites near the shoreline let campers look directly out over the reservoir, and several reviewers note that the views carry from nearly every site on the property. Fishing at the dam is a consistent pull for anglers, and a designated swimming area gives families a contained spot to get in the water. A boat launch, paved walking trails, basketball courts, and a covered pavilion round out the on-site activity options. The camp store stocks snacks, drinks, ice, firewood, and fishing supplies, and multiple reviewers single out the staff as notably helpful.
The bathhouse situation is worth understanding before you arrive. Currently there are two bathhouses across the property, each with one shower per gender. The campground has been adding infrastructure since TVA took over management, including solar upgrades and a bathhouse under construction as of mid-2023, but tent campers without onboard facilities should plan around limited shower availability, especially on busy weekends. "Super busy and loud on the weekend," one reviewer notes, while midweek stays tend to run quieter.
Tent pad dimensions vary by site. Some pads are small and partially occupied by concrete picnic tables, which can make fitting larger tents difficult. Site 19 has been noted as a good option for larger tent setups. The campground sits a couple of miles off the interstate, making it a workable overnight stop for travelers passing through the Knoxville corridor. Campers wanting a different setup nearby might consider The Crosseyed Cricket a few miles to the southwest.
