Potential for a Good Park

The park was taken over by the TVA 3yrs ago. Since then they have gone solar and done a fair amount of upgrades around the park. They are currently building another bathhouse (Bravo!) currently there is only 4 restrooms and 2 showers (including public) per gender for the entire park. The sites dimensions are not the same for every site. We originally had site 48 but my large tent 13x20’ (large family) wouldn’t have a chance to fit on that pad, and no other room beside the pad for it to fit either. They were VERY understanding and aloud us to move to site 19 or 20 (our choice, which ever fitted our needs) that was very kind of them! We chose site 19 due to the forecast of rain as it was on top of the hill vs on a plateau between hills. Our large tent still didn’t fit on the pad but we were making it work (until the poles snapped 😞 but, that obviously isn’t their fault). The new tent just fitted on the pad. But then the fire ring is only 1.5’ away from our new tent that - it really needs moved next to the charcoal grill that they provided. Swimming is also only in its one designated spot ( I missed that when scheduling). SUPER busy and loud on the weekend but during the week it was kind of nice. Super friendly staff!

Enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff. Bathhouse needs a better cleaning. Cobwebs all over in the shower and stalls. Other than that it’s a nice place to camp. We will be back.

Pleasant

Pros: It is close to everything, it is clean, it is pretty, options for sites with power and water

Cons: bathrooms could use work, beach area is way smaller than expected, sites are tiny, hardly any cell reception

My go to

This was the first campground I reserved when I began RV'ing. I'm not very keen on the spots higher up on the hill with the steps going down to the tables. However if you can get a decent spot it is great. Especially one with sewer. I love it here and will always be back. I wish it was year round.

Very clean, nice staff

Love the camp ground, easy access for a big rig, I have a 40ft fifth wheel. Water and electric on each site, dump station available. Boat ramp on site, store. So far I’m liking the camp ground.

Beautiful and peaceful

The campsite sits right beside the Tennessee river. There are 9 full hookup sites and many of the rest have power and water. Large river swimming area. Most sites are level with concrete tables, fire pits and grills. Bathrooms are clean and adequate. Bathrooms in the day use area are less so. Store is small with snacks, ice, drinks and ice cream. Staff very nice and RV’ers themselves. Family friendly. Pull through dump site. Love Truck Stop at entrance to I-40. $ rate and honors America Pass.

Excellent spot right on the lake!

If you don’t need hookups, there are campsites on the lake for tent campers, but you can park your van there and pay the fee &!wake up to an amazing Lakeview. There also sites with hookups a little farther away from the lake, but it’s all walking distance.

Short stay, hoping to return

This was just an overnight passing-through stay. Will be happy to return and stay longer in the future. A couple of miles off the Interstate but in its own lovely mountain-lake setting. The staff we interacted with were very accommodating, taking our reservation over the phone. We arrived at nearly dark but the site manager was super helpful, even allowing us to swap sites to one that accommodated our hookups better. Hardy “doesn’t tolerate malarkey in the campground” said with a wink and we found it very quiet. The sites are built on a terraced hill with lots of trees. We had a beautiful view onto the lake. The parking area is an asphalt slab and many have a slant to them and will require leveling. There are a mix of short-stay and longer stay sites. The picnic tables and grills for our area were up a set of stairs above the RV, the pads opposite were down steps from the RV. Serious speed bumps. Some sites do not have sewer but there is a dump station at the pull-out. The signage for the main dam road which also leads into the campground looks new and does not indicate the campground is on the road. Just ‘Melville Dam, Shipping/Receiving’. We were on the road before the office/store opened so cannot comment there. Older camping design but we liked it.

Great place to camp

I took my 5 kids camping at Melton Hill and we had a great time. The hosts were great brought my ice and firewood to the site everyday. The kids had a blast our site was right on the water so i could sit in the shade and watch them swim.

Nice area, close camping

Melton hill is A nice option for camping that is conveniently located not far from I-75. The Melton Hill dam is a great place to fish. The campground is fairly small, it has hook up sites as well as primitive tent sites, i don’t believe any of the sites have septic hook ups. I had a tent site when I was there, and had to set up

My rooftop tent off the parking lot above my site, but it worked out, so I was overlooking the lake.  The sites have fire rings and concrete picnic tables. The sites with hook ups were all pretty close to each other. However it is very wooded so you do have a feeling of privacy despite being close to your neighbor. The bathrooms were pretty small and I only noticed one shower in each, so plan accordingly. There is a Camp store with essentials, ice, firewood. And the people working in the store were very friendly. The campground is very well taken care off, very clean, and the lake is beautiful, so I do recommend this campground.

Bathing optional???

This campground could be amazing, IF they had more than 2 showers! There are only 2 bathhouses in the campground, with only one shower in each women’s and one in each men’s room. Also, there’s only two toilets in each women’s room. This is a real problem when the campground is full, plus a two night minimum was required when I stayed. So if you are not in an rv with a restroom/shower, keep in mind the bathhouse situation.

The campground is right on the lake, and it is beautiful! I stayed in tent site #62, it is the first site when you enter the campground only area. I was in a rooftop tent, so wasn’t able to park on the tent pad, but was able to make it work. The first sites are pretty close together, with not much privacy from your neighbors. There were other sites farther down that looked more spacious. We did not have electricity r water hookups, but there was a water spout nearby. The tent pad was pretty small, and was taken up by a giant concrete picnic table that was too small for an adult to sit at. You would need a small done tent for this one. The site text to us had a couple of some tents and put in on the pad and one on a flat spot in the grass and it worked for them.

The rv sites with hookups are all higher on the hill, but I believe they pretty much all had like views. The sites weren’t as spacious as I would like.

The campground has a swimming area, playground, boat launch, paved walking trails, very popular area for bike riding (if you like hills), fishing, basketball courts, picnic pavilion, etc.

There’s a camp store with essentials, including ice and firewood. The lady working in there was exceptionally nice and friendly!

The campground is conveniently located just a couple miles from the exit, and very close to West Knoxville. I really would love to see some updates on this potential gem!

Could be best campground if they built more bath houses.

I LOVED the campground but only gave it 2 stars because of the lousy bath house situation.

Why I loved the campground is because it's beautiful. Probably one of the best sites I've ever been on. Level, clean, concrete pads, perfect. There are tent sites right on the lake. Some of the tent campers brought their boats and parked them right next to their site.

Then you have to go to the bathroom or need to take a shower. They have 2 bath houses. One is in the area of the day use people so it's always in use. The 2nd one was 1000 steps, per fitbit, there and back from our site. When you get there, there's only one toilet and one urinal for the men and 2 toilets for the women. Only one shower in each bath house. We're talking over 60 sites total so if there are 4 people per site, that 240 people for 2 bath houses.

Convenient to Knoxville

We made a last minute trip to Melton Hill that was very conveniently located just outside of Knoxville. The campsite offers several options for camping along the water or in the woods. We stayed in the woods and the sites have little to no grass. mostly gravel, but that didn't stop us from having a great trip. Our kids enjoyed the nice beach and swim area that was located just a walk away from our site. I would highly recommend this site for those who live in Knoxville and want a short drive to a campsite. Also onsite is a campstore where you can purchase drinks, snacks fishing supplies, blow ups and other necessities. Close to the swimming area there is a covered pavillion with grills that would be perfect for a birthday party or reunion. We will definitely be back to this campground!
