      Buttonwood Campground

      Beautiful Campground

Clean and well kept campground located 12 mile below Lewistown, Pa. As clean a campground as you will find. Staff is super friendly. Campground has two distinct levels with open spaces with few trees above and well shaded spots with large trees for shade located down along Juniata River. Great place for fishing, tubing or just getting wet. Campground has many activities for kids. On site is a pool, winery, dog park, office/supplies located in center of campground. WiFi is available to all. Nearly all full hook-ups with back-ins and pull-thrus available. Pets allowed. 42 mile South from State College and 48 mile North of Harrisburg on Rt 322. Highly recommend!

      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

Wish I stayed there under different circumstances.

The rangers were nice and the campground hosts were sweet. I liked the dish washing sinks outside of the shower houses. The site was nice with the tent pad backing up to the trees. I would rather sleep in a tent any night over a motel room but this time was different. Due to my father passing, me and my daughter stayed there 3 nights. I will be back another time to actually enjoy the lake and being between Lancaster and Gettysburg makes both places easy to access. Next time I will be getting a site away from the group area. It was nice that the pet area is separate from those of us who don't have pets or want quiet from dogs barking. Some of the groups can get rather loud especially when there are a bunch of teens. Dogwood Acres Campground

      Quiet and Friendly Staff

Clean well kept family owned campground. Located a few miles off 81, in the country surrounded by beautiful views. It’s a mix campground of seasonal campers and short term campers. Very family oriented. Very nice off leash fenced dog park.

      Twin Grove RV Resort

      Great campground! Lots of fun

We loved it here. It accommodates a large family reunion with plenty of space. The campground was well populated but we didn’t feel cramped at all. Super dog friendly. Many little dog parks throughout. Great pool.

      Twin Grove RV Resort

      Beautiful Campground

This is an amazing campground! There are 2 dog parks right next to each other, which is great for your furry friend to be able to run around and play off leash. And for the kids there is an arcade, a ferris wheel and some other rides. On Saturday nights they usually have a band playing on the stage which is really neat. There is also a ice cream place to get a nice cold treat. The RV spots are really nice and well kept.

      French Creek State Park Campground

      Weekend Trip To Reading

My family and I stayed at French Creek State Park while attending an event in Reading. The park was clean and well maintained. We stayed in Loop A which had no camp host. The camp hosts were in loops B & C.  We had a full hook up site. The water and electric worked great! The campground was well patrolled by Rangers throughout our stay. The bathhouses appeared to be clean and maintained. The quiet time starts at 9pm and seemed to be followed by most campers. There are numerous hiking trails in the park that seemed to be well marked and maintained. The park is about 20- mins from Reading, and 10 mins from Birdsbroro. There are many stores and restaurants in the area for food and supplies if needed. We had good cellular service with both AT&T and T-Mobile. The one downside was that there was no off leash dog park. We had to take our dog to a dog park in Birdsbroro. We would stay at this park again.

    Guide to Jonestown

Campgrounds near Jonestown, Pennsylvania combine wooded settings with convenient access to regional attractions. Located in the eastern foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the area sits at elevations between 400-700 feet with mild summers averaging 80-85°F and winters dipping into the 20s. Many campsites feature gravel pads set among mature hardwood forests, creating natural shade during peak summer camping season.

    What to do

Creek recreation opportunities: Swatara Creek flows through the region, providing opportunities for water activities near several campgrounds. At Jonestown/Hershey KOA, the creek is accessible for various water sports. "The Swatara creek runs right next to it so it is great for kayaking, tubing, etc. Highly recommend," notes Bobby S. The campground connects to a rail trail for additional recreation options.

Appalachian Trail access: Some campgrounds provide direct access to this famous hiking route. "You can access the Appalachian trail from campground," reports Lisa B., who appreciated the hiking options from Jonestown/Hershey KOA. The trail segments near Jonestown feature moderate terrain suitable for day hikes.

Agricultural tourism: The nearby Pennsylvania Dutch countryside offers unique cultural experiences. Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country serves as a base for exploring Amish communities. "Not much for amenities, but I loved the surrounding dutch/Amish towns! It was pretty cool to seemingly step back in time," shares Jill R., highlighting the distinctive cultural experience available in the region.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers consistently mention appreciation for the generous site sizes at certain campgrounds. At Twin Grove RV Resort, Mike J. notes, "Spotless. Plenty of room for whatever size tent or RV you have." This contrasts with some more compact campgrounds in the region.

Swimming facilities: Several campgrounds feature pools and water activities. Chris G. comments on Starlite Camping Resort: "The store is nice, bathhouses are clean and private. Owners are super nice. There is also a great view of the surrounding countryside because it's up on a big hill." Multiple campgrounds offer swimming options during summer months.

Recreational facilities: Many campgrounds provide various on-site activities beyond standard amenities. At Elizabethtown-Hershey KOA, guests appreciate the recreational options. "They have a tennis court, mini golf, basketball court, and you saw many kids out with their bicycles. There is even an arcade center for the kids and a rec center with a pool table," observes Yamileth K. about a nearby facility.

    What you should know

Train noise considerations: Railroad tracks near some campgrounds can create noise issues. "Nice campground but super loud bc of the trains. Bath houses are nice and clean. I would suggest making sure you aren't close to the tracks bc the trains run all night long!" warns Kit at Hersheypark Camping Resort.

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the area feature sloping terrain that can present leveling difficulties. "Sites are very close together. Fire rings are very close to campers. Unlevel is an understatement we were in E row and every camper there had front end 4 foot off the ground," reports Justin B. about his experience at Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country.
