Dogwood Acres Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Family-owned and family-run, Dogwood Acres Campground sits at the base of the mountains outside Newville, drawing a mix of seasonal residents and weekend visitors each season from early April through late October. Sites are flat and gravel-surfaced, which keeps setup straightforward for rigs up to 60 feet, and full hookups including electric, water, and sewer are available throughout. Trees are plentiful across the property, though their density can make backing into some sites a challenge, particularly for longer trailers.

The campground leans toward a family-oriented crowd. A pool, playground, and small basketball court give kids plenty of ground to cover, and a fenced off-leash dog park is a practical draw for campers traveling with pets. Day visitors can pay a small fee to enter and use the facilities, which makes it workable for meeting up with friends or family who aren't staying overnight. Sites are relatively close together, especially premium sites near the cabins, so noise from neighbors is worth factoring into site selection.

Mary C. noted that staff "went the extra mile to ensure we would be happy," including texting site photos before booking, which speaks to the hands-on management style here. Amenities include showers, a dump station, WiFi, and a pavilion that functions as a central gathering space. Campers who prefer the larger, more spread-out sites typical of state parks like Colonel Denning State Park Campground or Greenbrier State Park Campground may find the site density here a contrast, but for a well-maintained private campground with full hookups and attentive staff, Dogwood Acres is worth a look.

Small and quiet family campground

Very nice family oriented campground nestled against the base of the mountains. I wish there was a better view of the beautiful mountain. Our site was a premium site that included a gas grill. Luckily, no one booked the cabins behind us that weekend or it would have been rather loud as the sites were close together even for a premium site. We were visiting friends in the area and they were able to visit for a small fee. They were then able to utilize the facilities so the kids could swim and play together. Nice playground with a small basketball court. We enjoy staying at state parks more because of the difference in site size but this was a nice change of pace.

Quiet and Friendly Staff

Clean well kept family owned campground. Located a few miles off 81, in the country surrounded by beautiful views. It’s a mix campground of seasonal campers and short term campers. Very family oriented. Very nice off leash fenced dog park.

Clean. Friendly.

Our first time at Dogwood Acres Campground. Was pleasantly surprised as this was just a weekend trip at the end of June to start the season. When booking the dates earlier in the year, I spoke to a woman in the office who was even willing to drive to a few sites and text me photos since we hadn’t been there before making our final selection. Went the extra mile to ensure we would be happy.

Was impressed upon driving into the place. Looked clean and tidy. Good signage. Flat all gravel sites. Clean pool. Pavilion was a nice meeting place. Big pond was pretty. Friendly staff.

Campground was a mix of seasonal and weekenders. Lots of trees. Some made pulling in/backing in a bit challenging.

I’m recommending this campground to our friends to come back together as a group.
