Several cabin campgrounds offer overnight accommodations within a short drive of Ironia, New Jersey, ranging from rustic woodland cabins to sites with electricity and water hookups. Mahlon Dickerson Reservation offers cabin sites with electricity and water hookups during warmer months. Panther Lake Camping Resort provides cabin rentals with picnic tables and fire rings at each site. The cabins are situated in wooded areas offering privacy, though some are near seasonal campers. Bathroom facilities with showers are available at both locations, though quality varies between campgrounds. At Mahlon Dickerson, the bathrooms feature private showers in a heated building during colder months. A visitor commented that "the bathroom with showers is heated in the colder months."

Rustic and deluxe cabins are available depending on the location. Panther Lake accommodates both short-term visitors and seasonal residents, with many cabins occupied by long-term guests. This creates what some describe as a "neighborhood" atmosphere in certain areas. Great Divide Campground and Jenny Jump State Forest also offer cabin options within driving distance of Ironia. Reservations are essential, particularly during summer weekends when cabins fill quickly. According to one visitor, "If you can score a secluded spot in the woods that would be perfect but anywhere else can be a bummer," indicating the importance of site selection when booking.

Most cabins include basic furnishings but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities vary significantly between locations, with some providing only outdoor fire rings and others offering more comprehensive setups. Camp stores at locations like Panther Lake sell essential supplies, firewood, and some food items. Water quality differs between sites, with some campers noting issues at certain locations. Cell service and Wi-Fi connectivity are limited at most cabin sites, particularly at Panther Lake where one visitor noted that "there's no wifi or phone signal anywhere other than near the entrance, pool area, pavilion, lake, and welcome center."

      Turkey Swamp Park

Water/power at the campsite, and and centrally located dump station. Lots of trees and nice separation of sites

      Neversink River Resort

      Cool Riverside Campground

I'll start by saying this is a site-specific review (C20). I booked using Campspot and didn't select my own site but put in the criteria for my rig (30ft TT plus truck) and got a 50A back-in spot. The site was big but abnormal. Between the picnic table placement and the trees, I ended up right around 50ft from the electric and water, and the water spigot was so low I could barely put on my camco filter. With the uneven dirt roads, I had to unhitch with my truck in a gigantic puddle (lol). The site was otherwise fine aside from my gate code not working on Day 2. As for the campground as a whole, I thought it was pretty unique place by the river that offered several good amenities and activities, like downstream river tubing, an arcade, bathroom/shower facilities, a small store, little trails, and more. I would say this place borders the more primitive side.

      Great off season camping

We camped here in our pop up for our Anniversary in November. We were impressed with the cleanliness and available amenities for the time of year we were camping in! Close proximity to DWG and PA AND NJ attractions.

      Great cabins!

We booked a cabin at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised that the cabin had heat and electricity! It was very close to the awesome heated bathroom also! We were also able to catch a beautiful sunset! Great camp all around!

      Tohickon Valley County Park

      First time camping

As far as experience it was good. The main issue was the campsite where we were was uneven and caused many of the sleeping arrangements that we had to be not level. This seems to be a specific issue to the group campsite number two as when we went inwards it seemed like everything else was much better.

      Kittatinny Campground

      AWFUL

We reserved for a day. Very bad service. The river is super dirty and they did not even clean the trash cans. Besides, the fire ring has no grill cooking grate, so if you don’t bring your own NO GRILLING. Ryan was the person in front that took care of us, he was rude, my kids felt weird because he was not welcoming at all. Also, we try to ask for a partial refund since we did not felt comfortable since the beginning, and they said NO. We have experience camping, but this one was simply THE WORST. We lost the money but we won’t put our kids in a difficult situation. Thanks.

      Camp Taylor Campground

Privacy & quiet hours are king

We’ve been to Camp Taylor twice now for tent camping: September 2021 and May 2023. We stayed at the rustic tent sites both times, and there was room for 2 cars and 2 tents. Depending on how you want your setup, there are some that are more secluded and others that are close together and would be great for group camping.

The staff are all lovely and take the time to explain the rules both in-person at check-in and on the forms they provide at the time of booking. They are not hiding how seriously they take rules like quiet hours, and it will keep campers like me coming back. If you are respectful of the folks around you and especially during the posted quiet hours, you will have no problems.

The office and shop keep supply of snacks, firewood, and gifts. There are flush toilets mapped in spots of the tent sites (SUCH a pleasant surprise! I was expecting a porta-potty or vault toilet), and hot showers are available at the same complex as the office.

      Voorhees State Park Campground

      Clean and well maintained!

I spent 4 days and 3 nights with my 6th grade Girl Scouts. We were at sites 23 and 24 which worked out great because they back up against each other. The bathrooms were super clean and well maintained. There are outlets at the bathroom building by the sink to charge any electronics. The playground is adequate and the field is big for playing.  There are many things to do close by too like the observatory, Round Valley beach, Grounds for Art, etc. We all really enjoyed ourselves and plan on returning.

    Guide to Ironia

Camping cabins near Ironia, New Jersey are nestled within the hilly Skylands region, where elevations range from 700 to 1,400 feet above sea level. This topography creates distinct seasonal temperature variations, with summer highs averaging in the mid-80s and winter lows often dropping below freezing. Many cabin locations feature rocky, uneven terrain characteristic of northern New Jersey's glacial landscape, requiring appropriate footwear for comfortable site navigation.

    What to do

Hiking trails access: At Jenny Jump State Forest, cabin renters can access trails directly from their sites, making early morning hikes convenient. "My husband and I Tent camped in #34 with our dog. The space was reasonably priced, but we did have to pay an extra $5/day for our dog. However, we didn't mind as it was so private we felt like we had the entire Park to ourselves," notes reviewer Kelsey K.

Wolf preserve visits: Camp Taylor Campground offers unique wildlife viewing opportunities minutes from your cabin. "There is a section of RV spots that are each cut out in the woods so very private. Once you have backed into the spot and leveled out it's a good time... You can take a short hike up the mountain there to see the wolves in the sanctuary. There are moments by the fire you can hear them howl in the distance," writes Julie F.

Stargazing excursions: The rural location of cabin sites provides excellent night sky viewing conditions away from urban light pollution. At Mountainview Campground, one visitor noted, "Great spot for stargazing. Owners are very nice." The higher elevations of the region enhance visibility for constellation spotting throughout summer and fall months.

    What campers like

Private cabin layouts: Stokes State Forest cabins feature thoughtful design elements that separate sleeping from cooking areas. "Rented a cabin in November (#009) and again in December (#008) of 2021. I favored Cabin 8, the kitchen and bathroom were separated from the main room," writes W L., who appreciated the layout differences between units.

On-site water features: Many cabin guests value proximity to swimming options during summer months. A visitor at Swartswood State Park Campground commented, "The lake is beautiful! Great for swimming and fishing. There are several trail hikes that you can do from the campsite."

Heating options: Winter cabin campers appreciate facilities with proper heating solutions. At Stokes State Forest, a reviewer explained, "The wood stove definitely heats the room up nicely. I went through two bundles of wood in one night, and could have used more in the morning... The second time I took six bundles of wood and used them all from Friday to Sunday morning, and 7 would've have been better."

    What you should know

Reservation timing: The most secluded cabin sites book 3-6 months in advance, especially at popular locations. A camper at Swartswood State Park noted, "The sites are hit or miss in terms of comfort, some have large, flat, clear spaces for multiple tents, some you have to wedge a tent to avoid rocks."
