    Douglas Forest RV Resort

    Awesome Campground In The Forest

We had an incredible stay at Douglas Forest RV Resort! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and well-maintained everything was. The RV sites are spacious and easy to navigate, with full hookups and strong Wi-Fi— a big plus for us since we work remotely on the road. What really sets this place apart is the location. You’re literally steps away from Douglas State Forest, which made morning hikes and evening strolls absolutely magical. It’s pet-friendly too, and our dog loved the wooded trails and open areas. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the camp store had everything we needed. Even though the recreation area is still being built, the amenities already in place more than made up for it. We’re already planning our next trip for summer when the pool opens! If you’re looking for a relaxing spot that blends nature with convenience, look no further. Douglas Forest RV Resort is a true hidden gem!

    Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Sturbridge - [CLOSED}

    Pine lake , Sturbridge Ma.

I’m told that this used to be Jellystone.

It’s now called Pine Lake Rv and cottages.

Not knowing what the previous campground was like I can’t compare. But the new owners surely did a total revamp. There is approximately 30 cottages and many pull through and back in sites for any size RV.

The bathroom/showers were all new and very nice and clean. It seems to be very family friendly. There’s an 8 acre lake with kayaks and fishing, a basketball court,   a game pavilion and a well stocked store. The RV sites are   spacious and pretty close to near perfect level.

The problems I came across was there were very few places to dispose of camp trash, I had to actually walk around looking for one. The camp store doesn’t open until 9:00AM and closes at 4:00PM

If you can, try and NOT stay on the back upper level ( the 700 ) spots. It’s around 100 feet from a very busy road and loud !

    Forest Lake Campgrounds

Weekend stay, lots of seasonal camping

Site was clean, easy to get in/out with 21' travel trailer. Swimming at the beach wasn't inviting. Lots of seasonal campers with years of lawn ornaments. There was a sense of the campground being clicky place. Pet friendly. Mixed emotions....

Guide to Erving

Campgrounds near Erving, Massachusetts offer varied terrain with the region's mix of state forests and recreational areas ranging from 500 to 1,200 feet in elevation. The camping season typically runs from May through October, with most facilities closing during winter months due to the region's average 50 inches of annual snowfall. Cell service varies widely across campgrounds, becoming less reliable in more remote forest areas.

What to do

Water recreation access: Jamaica State Park Campground in Vermont provides access to the West River with "a flat trail and a waterfall near by," according to Larry A. The park also features "rock slides and take a dip in the pools" as noted by Jackie G.

Hiking opportunities: Lake Dennison Recreation Area Campground offers "ample trails for hiking and kids can ride their bikes" as Bonnie B. describes. Another camper mentions "great hiking right from the campsites," making it convenient for day excursions.

Swimming options: The recreation area at Lake Dennison features "a gorgeous campground with clean facilities" where "the lake is perfect for swimming, kayaking, and fishing," according to Bonnie B. Juliet P. adds that "it is so convenient to camp right on the lake. We can drop our paddle boards in any time and explore the lake."

Golf access: While some campgrounds advertise golf amenities, actual course quality varies. Rather than the courses at RV parks, visitors might consider public courses within driving distance of major campgrounds for better maintained playing conditions.

What campers like

Privacy levels: Jamaica State Park Campground earns praise for its secluded sites. One camper notes, "Our tent site was very spacious, you could of easily accommodated a family of four with a large tent." However, they caution that "some sites, however, were a little close together, so if you're looking for total privacy choose your site wisely."

Natural settings: Campers consistently mention the natural surroundings at area campgrounds. At Jamaica State Park, a visitor describes it as "heaven on earth" with "no cell service and a gorgeous back drop is a perfect spot to just unwind from the real world."

Clean facilities: Prospect Mountain Campground receives high marks for maintenance. One camper notes, "When we arrived to check in they were very nice and gave us the breakdown of the place along with brochures of what was going on at the site. We arrived to our site, it was by the pond and our site was even raked clean."

Lake access: Multiple campgrounds offer lake proximity. One camper at Lake Dennison mentions, "We try to stay as close as possible to it [the beach]," while another notes the "sites were big and offered immediate access to and view of the lake."

What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Site proximity varies significantly between campgrounds and even within the same park. At Lake Dennison, a visitor notes, "The sites with higher numbers by the lake are all on top of each other with little to no trees or shrubs between sites, and you can't really decipher where one site ends and the next begins."

Bathroom facility quality: Woodmore Family Campground has "coin operated showers with hot water, mostly nice and clean except after a crowd gets packed and checks out Sunday AM," according to John L. At Lake Dennison, one camper noted bathrooms were "clean but out dated."

Electrical system reliability: Before connecting RVs at any campground, verify the electrical system reliability and consider using surge protectors. Some campgrounds have reported electrical issues.

Seasonal operational differences: Most campgrounds operate May through October with limited shoulder season availability. Woodmore Family Campground runs "from Mother's Day to mid-October," similar to other area facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access for children: Prospect Mountain Campground and RV Park is described as "a great campground for families with younger kids. They have activities every weekend such as dances, bingo, hayrides. They also have a great pool, playground and pond for fishing," according to Sandra S.

Kid-friendly activities: Several campgrounds offer dedicated children's programming. Prospect Mountain provides a "mini golf course and a mining area where kids can 'mine' 'gems'. Kids had a blast!" as one reviewer reports.

Playground availability: Facilities for children vary by campground. At Lake Dennison, "there is a tiny swimming beach on the campground side" that families appreciate, while Prospect Mountain features "a nice pool, playground and pond for fishing."

Beach quality considerations: Beach conditions vary at the lake campgrounds. Lake Dennison's beach is described as "clean and soft(ish)" by one visitor, making it appropriate for younger children.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Douglas Forest RV Resort offers 90 RV sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service options. This resort accommodates larger RVs with pull-through access, though terrain varies across sites.

Hookup availability: RV sites near Erving, Massachusetts offer varying hookup configurations. Field and Stream RV Park offers year-round camping with full hookups, as one camper notes: "Great site right next to the water. Sites are clean and well equipped."

Laundry facilities: Limited laundry options exist at area campgrounds. Field and Stream RV Park provides "coin laundry with nice machine" according to Jeanine S., though many campgrounds lack this amenity entirely.

Size restrictions: While several campgrounds accommodate larger RVs, site accessibility varies. At Woodmore Family Campground, "sites in back are ok with trees and different levels. Sites are a little closer than I usually find," notes one RVer, suggesting careful site selection for larger rigs.
