Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

    Lots of activities

Pricey but it's Disney. Lots of activities to do at the campground without going to the parks. Clean and well maintained campsites and bathrooms. The roads are narrow in the loops and the sites can be difficult to get into. Pet friendly with dog parks and trails.

    Manatee Hammock Campground

    Tent folk: bring earplugs

Arrived here for a three-night tent stay at spot 153. The campground is easily accessible from the highway, and a breeze to check in. Friendly staff. Dumpsters behind the main office. All roads are one-way counterclockwise. The bathroom and laundry room are about 100 meters from spot 153. Both are clean. There's a nice pavilion overlooking the water inside the eastern loop. There's a good size, fenced-in, leash-free dog park next to the water. The water views are beautiful at sunrise. There's a pier for fishing and just serene eastern observation toward Cape Canaveral. There's a kayak launch ramp as well.

Spot 153 was perfectly partially shaded, with a mix of sand and grass, and it was level. The only critters seen here are playful squirrels. RV spots can be quite close to each other, but not many of their inhabitants were seen outside during these chilly, mid-December days when the temperature dipped to 40F at night, and high 50's in the day. All spots have electric and picnic table. The water spigot at 153 was about two inches from the ground. Why?

The only downside of the campground is its proximity to railroad tracks and airport. The noise seemed to be constant on weekdays.

Guide to Titusville

Titusville offers diverse camping options within close proximity to Kennedy Space Center and natural waterways. The region maintains average winter temperatures between 60-70°F, making it popular for winter camping when northern states experience snow. Most campgrounds in the area are less than 15 miles from the Atlantic coast, providing convenient access to both space-themed attractions and outdoor recreation.

What to do

Rocket launches up close: Campers at Jetty Park Campground can witness launches from Cape Canaveral from prime viewing spots. "For what it is, this place is perfect... It also gives front row seats to the ships coming to port as well as any launches from cape Canaveral which are much more frequent now," notes Jesse P.

Fishing from campground docks: Cape Kennedy RV Resort provides fishing opportunities that many visitors enjoy. "We stayed for the night to watch the SpaceX rocket launch. Great view as soon as it cleared the trees. Trees on-site have some beautiful Spanish moss," shares Daniel G., highlighting the dual benefits of launch viewing and outdoor recreation.

Explore nature preserves: The Great Outdoors RV, Nature & Golf Resort features extensive natural areas. According to Suzie F., "There is over 3K acres of natural areas. There is also a golf course, 2 pools, 2 restaurants and other amenities. Also GREAT VIEWS of the Space Launches!"

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Lake Mills Park receives consistent praise for its upkeep. Stephanie C. mentions, "Lake Mills has 14 sites to choose from, some being bigger than others. All sites were clean and very well cared for. The whole park was nice."

Security features: The gated access at several campgrounds provides peace of mind. Emily A. appreciates that "the park gate closes and locks at night (with a code for campers to exit and enter) and the campground itself has a gate that is always locked as do the bathrooms so they stay fairly nice."

Convenient launch viewing: Manatee Hammock Campground offers excellent space launch visibility. Nathan A. shares, "Great county park for our holiday weekend trip... Decent rates, full hook ups, great location, friendly staff, clean bathhouse, and beautiful views of the Indian River."

What you should know

Railroad proximity: Some campgrounds experience train noise that might affect light sleepers. Jorge F. notes about Manatee Hammock, "Downside is freight train noise every night in the early morning hours and traffic noise, specially with campsites near the busy US-1."

Site variations: Campgrounds often have significant differences between sections. Mark S. observed at Cape Kennedy RV Resort: "This campground has a split personality. The west side has nice wide concrete sites, the east side is on dirt and gravel and not so nice."

Weather considerations: Summer heat affects comfort in facility buildings. Denis P. commented about Jetty Park Campground, "Restrooms and showers were clean, but completely unventilated and without air conditioning. In summer temperatures, that made things uncomfortable."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Lake Mills Park offers family-friendly amenities. Jeff A. mentions, "The park provided plenty of daytime entertainment for our kids; awesome playground, fishing, volleyball, etc."

Kid-friendly launch viewing: The visibility of rocket launches excites children of all ages. According to Dave D. at Manatee Hammock Campground, "This is a nice campground that's located right on the intercoastal waterway right across from Kennedy Space Center. We saw two rocket launches while here."

Family-oriented events: Many pet-friendly campgrounds near Titusville, Florida organize community activities. Russell S. appreciated Cape Kennedy RV Resort, saying, "Our first time camping in an rv and could not have picked a better spot. The staff were so helpful welcoming and friendly. Helped us get set up righ for the first time and had loads of time for the kids."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: For the best experience at Seasons In The Sun RV Resort, choose carefully. Joel R. advises, "When they say 'in the sun', they mean it! Not much shade anywhere. But, if you stay in you 50 ft. Class A I suppose shade isn't needed."

Concrete pad availability: Most pet-friendly campsites near Titusville offer varied surfaces. Peggie F. notes about Jetty Park Campground, "Concrete slabs to park your unit on. The sites 100-144 aren't as shady. The red knot circle is the most shady."

Hookup variations: RV campers should confirm exact hookup availability. Annabel F. from Manatee Hammock Campground shared her experience: "We booked last minute in January for an overnight stay with a 25ft RV. They were able to accommodate us. Majority of guests are here for long term. They all made us newbies feel very welcome. Paid 55$ for full hook-up. Poor wifi reception."
