Railroad tracks run along the northern edge of this county-operated campground on the Indian River, where freight trains sound their horns throughout the night. Sites cluster tightly together on one-way roads that loop through 26 acres of mixed forest and open areas. Full hookups accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, while tent sites sit closer to the water.
Most campers come for the direct water access and views across to Kennedy Space Center. A fishing pier extends into the shallow river, though as Christie Q. notes, "you could see straight through the 1'-2' deep water with no drop off in sight." The campground includes a boat launch for kayaks and canoes, plus a fenced dog park where pets can run off-leash. Liz H. reports "Dogs swam in the water too" near the pier area.
Amenities include clean bathhouses with showers, laundry facilities, and a swimming pool. Sites feature picnic tables and electrical hookups, though fires require elevated fire pits at least six inches off the ground. Several waterfront sites offer river views, particularly sites 51, 13, and 65-69. The campground stays busy on weekends and fills completely during rocket launches, which are visible across the water.
Traffic noise from nearby US-1 affects sites closest to the main road. WiFi reception remains spotty throughout the property. The narrow, winding access roads can challenge larger RVs during peak times. Nearby options include Florida Great Outdoors and Whispering Pines for those seeking alternatives.
Reserve ahead for launch dates and winter months when the campground reaches capacity.
