      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

Atsion Family Camp — Wharton State Forest

      Pine Barrens New Jersey

This campground is part of the Wharton State Forest and has several campgrounds in the area. Great wooded sites right on a lake. Pretty good separation between sites with good tree separation between sites. Some road noise not overly affecting site.

      Country Acres Campground

      Excellent But.

The campground is in excellent condition. The facilities are top notch. The excellence and care of the campground is evident. The 4 stars is only due to the road noise and many of the sites are on top of each other. You feel like your neighbor is at your camp fire.

      Lums Pond campground

First time at this campground really like it a lot will be returning. The bathrooms are always clean. The grounds are always kept up. Just a really nice place to stay. Most of the sites have some kind of shade.

Atsion Family Camp — Wharton State Forest

      Not my vibe

I personally did not like this campsite. First of all, our site tag was leftover from SEPTEMBER. Did no one look at any of these sites and leave someone else’s registration posted there for almost a year? Wild. Our campsite had trash leftover from previous campers. The whole campground was loud - from other campers to just the sounds from the nearby road. If you are looking for peace it is NOT here. If you’re looking to have loud music time all night with no repercussions as your kids ride around yelling and carrying on past midnight then you’ll have a blast. The pros of this campsite was supposed to be the access to Lake Atsion but we were turned away at the gate at 12:30 as they stated they were at capacity. Checking into our campsite they specifically asked if we would be utilizing the recreation area so we would have a pass for entry, but that’s seemingly not in their logistical headcount. I would not visit here again.

      Susquehanna State Park Campground

A little noisy - park stuff, not campers

A beautiful, well maintained park with lots to do, great bathroom facilities and extremely nice people. The electric sites aren't all together, so you don't have RV's lined up but maybe annoying for folks who are tent camping. Avoid the locations in the mid-30's by the dumpster, both staff and campers start shaking the lid around 6:30. Between 5 AM and noon staff were driving big trucks and ATV's around with loud reverse horns, and slamming the fire pit grills, which they store sideways. Overall I had a really wonderful time, but that's largely down to good sound reduction inside the van. Almost zero cell service. I was able to get a couple of text messages in and out, but seemed to be a fluke.

      Quakerwoods Campground

      Great place. Friendliest people

The staff is the GREATEST. They are knowledgeable and helpful. The grounds are clean. The shower rooms are clean and large. Laundry room is perfect. They have pull-thrus, back ins and tent sites. Dog stations are placed throughout the park. The campers are also the friendliest. You can always tell the condition of the camp by the quality of the people staying there.. everyone was respectful, courteous and friendly. We stayed in July, 2026 and would DEFINITELY stay again next time we are thru PA.

      French Creek State Park Campground

Quiet Park with a Tight Fit

We spent a weekend at French Creek State Park as our home base for the Chester County Balloon Festival. We stayed for 2 nights at a full-hookup paved site, which ran us $55.25 per night.

      WHAT I LIKED:

      • Peace& Quiet: The state park itself was lovely, serene, and felt nice and spacious.

      • Prime Location: At just 30 minutes away from the balloon festival, this is the closest campground.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

      • The"Leveling" Challenge: We were at site#C-241, which had a pretty significant slope. It took a few boards under the rear wheels and fully extended jacks just to get us anywhere near level.

      • Tight Fit for Big Rigs: Even though there was plenty of open space behind our site, the actual driveway pad was too short to comfortably fit our motorhome and Jeep together. Compared to other state parks we’ve visited, the interior roads and layouts felt a bit on the tight side.

      WOULD WE COME BACK?

      • Probably. While the site geometry required a little extra setup muscle, it’s hard to beat the location if you're visiting the area or catching the balloon festival.

The 7.5-mile trail circling the pond creates ample opportunities for day hikes.

Water activities on multiple lakes: Philadelphia-West Chester KOA offers waterfront recreation on the Brandywine River. One camper noted, "The river sites are great but can get muddy and there is a big hill to get up and out. The pool is nice, they have a store and a playground." Visitors can fish directly from riverside sites or wade in the water during warmer months.

Equestrian activities: Horse enthusiasts can explore dedicated equestrian trails at Lums Pond State Park Campground, which features an equestrian center and specialized trails. A reviewer mentioned, "There's an off leash dog park, equestrian center and boat ramp." The multi-use trails accommodate riders of various experience levels.

    What campers like

Clean, modern facilities: Campers consistently praise the updated amenities at Country Acres Campground. One visitor shared, "The new bathhouse has better restrooms than my own home! Everything is clean and well managed." The facilities include modern showers, laundry areas, and well-maintained common spaces.

Privacy between sites: French Creek State Park Campground offers natural separation between campsites that creates a sense of seclusion. According to a camper, "The sites are not on top of one another. There is a lot of shade and the campground is laid out well." The foliage between sites provides visual barriers while maintaining access to facilities.

Cultural experiences: Lancaster-New Holland KOA provides unique cultural exposure with views of Amish farmland and local activities. A reviewer noted, "We had a really great RV experience at the Lancaster KOA. We have a 35 ft class A with a tow and selected an executive 1st row which gave us unobstructed views of the Amish farmland and lots of room." These cultural encounters offer educational opportunities while camping.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Campsites at popular locations like Hibernia County Park fill quickly during peak season. A visitor noted, "This campground is a county run one that works on a first come first serve basis, which is fine if there are others close by." Some special events require advance reservations.

Variable site conditions: Site terrain and amenities vary significantly between campgrounds. At French Creek, "The sites are mostly grass, and not very well defined which means the distance between you and your neighbor can vary depending on how you set up camp." Some campgrounds have paved or gravel pads while others are natural surfaces.

Seasonal availability: Many yurt camping options near Hockessin, Delaware operate on limited schedules. A camper at Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA shared, "We stayed for a week in one of the glamping tents. The staff was very friendly and the tents were more glamorous than we had tried before, but definitely had a good combination of woodsy and comfort." Most yurts and glamping sites close during winter months.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Quarryville offers extensive family-focused recreation. A parent mentioned, "Very family friendly park. Cabins, RV, Tent - full amenities. Lots of things to do. A little pricy, but worth it especially with kids." The campground features two different playground areas designed for various age groups.

Lake activities for children: Hibernia County Park provides designated fishing areas for younger visitors. According to a parent, "The lake is about a 3 minute hike down the clearly marked trails. The children's pond is a short ways away for well stocked fishing." These dedicated fishing spots allow kids to experience successful catches.

Organized weekend programs: Many campgrounds near Hockessin offer structured activities for families. One visitor to Lums Pond noted, "They hold a Sunday morning 'Church at the Park,' which we were planning to go to, but then it rained, and we didn't know there was a rain location (the park office), so we ended up missing that." Check activity schedules when making reservations.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger rigs: Careful planning is essential when bringing larger RVs to Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA. A reviewer advised, "I stayed here as a first trip for my new Class C RV, as a shakedown trip for the rig. The campground is quiet, well-kept, and relatively clean." The campground accommodates various RV sizes but requires advance planning.

Leveling considerations: Many sites require adjustments for comfort. At French Creek, "All sites have a paved level area which made set up a breeze. Sites were not on top of each other." While some campgrounds provide level pads, others may require blocks or leveling systems, particularly for larger vehicles.

Hookup availability: When seeking yurt camping near Hockessin, Delaware, assess utility needs. An RVer at Country Acres noted, "Pull-Thru site will all hookups in good working order. Site felt spacious with a nice grass strip." Some campgrounds offer full hookups while others provide more primitive camping experiences with limited utilities.
