## Overview

Fry Creek Campground is situated in the heart of Cleveland National Forest, uniquely located down the road from the world-famous Palomar Observatory. The fresh, clean air of the campground provides a refreshing getaway for visitors from San Diego and Los Angeles. 

The observatory, atop Palomar Mountain, boasts five high-tech telescopes, among them, the massive 200-inch Hale Telescope, was the world's largest effective telescope for about 45 years. The observatory is owned by the California Institute of Technology and astronomical research includes near-Earth asteroids and the study of distant galaxies. 

## Recreation

At Observatory Campground, the site across from Fry Creek, there's a popular astronomy event called Explore the Stars.   
  
Amateur astronomers gather here with their telescopes and share views of planets and constellations with visitors. The event takes place one weekend each month, April through October.

A loop hike, great for exploring local flora and fauna, surrounds Fry Creek.   
  
The campground sits beneath a dense pine canopy, which is not ideal for stargazing, but Observatory Campground across the road has level cement platforms for telescopes and an amphitheater that's open to campers.

## Natural Features

Fry Creek is at a 4,900 ft. elevation on Palomar Mountain. The area is dense with evergreen and oak, and is usually cooler than the surrounding area. 

## Nearby Attractions

The visitor center at Palomar Observatory is 2.2 miles away and can be accessed by road or by hiking trail. A restaurant and gift shop are onsite.

Fry Creek Campground

A loop hike, great for exploring local flora and fauna, surrounds Fry Creek. The campground sits beneath a dense pine canopy, which is not ideal for stargazing, but Observatory Campground across the road has level cement platforms for telescopes and an amphitheater that's open to campers.

Frye creek campground 

There are 31 campsites in the Doane Valley Campground, three of which have accessible features. Each site has a table and fire ring, and most have a food locker. Piped drinking water is available. The campground also has restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers which are usable for campers, including those with disabilities.

The beautiful forest and mountain meadows of Palomar Mountain State Park are in northern San Diego County, high atop the west side of Palomar Mountain. Large pine, fir and cedar trees make the park one of the few areas in southern California with a Sierra Nevada-like atmosphere. The park features camping, picnicking, hiking, and fishing (trout) in Doane Pond. Coniferous forests cover much of the 1,862 acres, in contrast to the dry lowlands surrounding the mountain.

Elevation within the park averages 5,000 feet above sea level, making evenings cool even during the summer. A number of vista points offer spectacular panoramic views both westerly toward the ocean and inland toward the desert, particularly from Boucher Hill Summit, which has been listed in the Sierra Club's "Hundred Peaks Section" since first published in 1946. There, you'll also find the historic Boucher Hill Fire Lookout.

The park is open from dawn 'til dusk daily. Reservations are highly recommended for camping during peak season. Day use fees are $10.00 per vehicle, cash or check only. Trails are open to foot traffic only, and dogs and mountain bikes are not allowed on trails. Please note that there are no gas stations on Palomar Mountain. 

Doane Valley Campground - Palomar Mountain SP

Camping with a view of river and mountains. Our property is connected to a trail head that leads to the Santa Margarita preserve and river. 1,384 Acre preserve. Lots of hiking and fishing straight off of the property. Far enough from the city to enjoy the outdoors but close enough for the convenience of shopping and restaurants.

Via Del Gavilan Camp

- Enjoy our quite, secluded property and get away from it all. Yet it’s only 15 to 20 min drive from the Temecula winery’s with many restaurants, shopping, and Casino options. We are right by a horseback riding tour company and an incredible metal art galley. Enjoy the panoramic views of MT Palomar. We have plenty of space for big RVS or for someone who just wants to pitch a tent. There is fresh water to fill your tanks but you must be able to boondock your rig as there is no electric hookups or sewage. No one lives on the property so you will only have other campers near by.





JMP RV

Climb 700 feet up a dirt road in only 1.5 miles to a secluded Mountainous camping with a view of the Regenerative Organic Avocado and Citrus grove and views of the city lights at night. The farm has over 700 avocados trees with 9 varieties of avocados and 20 various citrus and nut trees. We have chickens, ducks, and Guinea Fowl and plenty of wildlife including: hawks, Owls, bunnies and more which all contribute to Regenerative Organic and offer viewing pleasure. The local area provides hiking, wildlife mountain biking, lakes and 35 minutes to the nearest wine tasting in Temecula. We are an hour from the beach and roughly an hour and half to Skiing and Snowboarding at Mt. High. The property sits roughly 2000 ft above sea level and 800 ft above the city below. The 21 acre property provides amazing views as well as biking and hiking along the local fire roads and farm roads. Minutes away from Santa Rosa Plateau for hiking. You are also a 20-30 minute drive to explore the amenities of the local cities, wine country and 45 minutes to the beach.. We offer Camping supplies such as tents or chairs if needed for a small rental fee as well as the ability to purchase fresh avocados, citrus or Farm fresh eggs from the grove. Zephyr Mountain Avocado Grove

**Wilderness Lakes RV Resort** is a flat, 80-acre RV Resort in California with fishing canals that weave throughout the park. As a centrally-located RV camp, it is close to shopping, hospitals and freeways in California's Los Angeles region. The surrounding area has been changing quite dramatically with housing projects on two sides and dairy farms on the other. The temperatures are mild in the winter and warm to hot in the summer, making Wilderness Lakes a perfect RV campground no matter what time of year. At **Wilderness Lakes RV Resort** , our 523 sites include RV sites, rental cottages and cabins. The general store is open five days a week for all of your convenience needs. Plus, our on-site package delivery lockers allow guest to vacation with the assurance of receiving packages and deliveries in safety and ease. Locally, there are numerous golf courses within a 15-mile radius of Wilderness Lakes with one only two miles from the campground. Old Town Temecula is only 17 miles to the south of our RV campground and offers great dining and shopping in true California style. The Pechanga Resort and Casino is about 20 miles south of the resort and is the largest gambling casino in the state. It has weekend entertainment, seven restaurants and a non-smoking section for gambling. Diamond Valley Lakes is just 5 miles to the east of the resort and has boat rentals and fishing. Most of the major theme parks, such as Disneyland, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park are all about 1 hours away. We offer a variety of ways for you to enjoy your stay, from private rooms in the main.house to hike in only dispersed camping. We welcome you to come to the country and experience the untamed natural beauty and rustic vibe of this hidden rural property. Hear the roosters in the morning, watch the hummingbirds on the deck at the main.house or relax with a cup of coffee under the giant birds of paradise. Or you can choose to scale the 60 foot \*movie rock\* to take in the 360 views; from Pala Valley, to Oceanside and Corona to San Diego, there is no better place to watch the Sunset (or sunrise). You are surrounded by 300 year old oak trees and granite boulders which makes you feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet a $10 UBER puts you right in the middle of Old Town.

Even though you are only paying to stay in one site, we provide full access to the rest of the property, outdoor areas and the horse flat. Have a drink with friends, sit around the fire (tbd fire ban) or grab a bite to eat as travelers swap stories and tips over smores and a shot of jager.

Far Away, Close to Home

Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

Splitrock Farm:

Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.

Splitrock Retreat:

Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

When you think Napa Valley, you think of wine, not camping. But you can plan a wine vacation from behind the flap of your tent. Set up in one of the valley’s campgrounds then visit the many casual tasting rooms that won't mind dirt under your fingernails.  When you tire of drinking wine, hike Mt. St Helena, a dormant volcano. Or walk through the Petrified Forest, a forest that was turned to stone by the last eruption of the volcano. Or visit California’s Old Faithful, a nearby geyser.


Once you have found camping in California’s Half Dome in Yosemite Valley, center yourself in Tuolumne Meadows, a more remote section of the park with its own collection of charming granite domes. Here's a secret: Instead of joining the crowds of day hikers on the meadow's most popular trails, follow the backpackers north on the famed John Muir Trail. The trail meanders through meadows, along a river below alpine peaks. And best of all, the first 8 miles of this trail out of Tuolumne are flat. Hike until you find a spot to watch the marmots, then return to your campsite. For more, backpack another 23 miles to Reds Meadow where you can catch a shuttle back up to Tuolumne.

The Green Ravine in De Luz

Nestled between avocado trees in the middle of wine country, come stay on our quaint farm. Each site has a generous plot completely fenced in from the rest of the farm. Eggs and other seasonal produce available for purchase from the farm owners. Across the street is a full service restaurant for any special night out. Enjoy the farm sounds and the cool afternoons. A stargazers dream.

The reimagined Native Falls Campground (formerly Indian Oaks) is conveniently located only minutes from Temecula Valley wine country, yet offers a totally unique lodging experience unlike anything in the area. The campground includes a lake with waterfall and fishing, beach area, pickleball court, shuffle board, fire pits, picnic tables, hiking trails, and more!

Please excuse our dust as the revamp is an ongoing project. There are currently 13 various cabins available, along with \~30 RV spaces with 30 and 50 amp service.

Bailey’s on Palomar is an authentically rustic property with a long history of hospitality stretching back to 1888. Our Historic Dancehall, the venue of choice for many of our bridal couples, was built nearly 100 years ago and once hosted the small mountaintop neighborhood of Palomar Mountain. Lively get-togethers with music, dancing, food, and drinks were common. The old soda fountain is still here! The first Palomar Mountain U.S. Post Office and General Store, originally run by the Bailey Family, are completely intact and filled with antiques and mountain artifacts. The last Baileys to work the property retired in 2018 and passed the torch to a new family. Our family.

Appreciating the legacy and sense of history, we are working hard to restore the old and bring in the new. Our dearest wish is to create a special mountain experience for all who wish to share in the magic of Palomar. Share the next exciting chapter of this fascinating historic property with us.
