Best RV Parks & Resorts near Palm Springs, CA

The Coachella Valley offers numerous big-rig friendly RV parks with full hookup sites. Thousand Trails Palm Springs provides both 30 and 50 amp full hookup service from September through May, with concrete pads that accommodate larger motorhomes despite tight spacing around palm trees. Catalina Spa and RV Resort in Desert Hot Springs features year-round access with full hookups and natural hot spring pools. Cathedral Palms RV Resort maintains 133 sites with 30/50 amp service and concrete pads for easier leveling. Emerald Desert RV Resort in Palm Desert caters specifically to larger RVs with spacious sites and premium hookups. "The park is split in half with one side 30 amp FHU and the other half 50 amp FHU. For TT members, there is not an additional charge for 50 amp. Quite a deal!" notes one Thousand Trails visitor.

Most RV campgrounds in the Palm Springs area remain open year-round, though winter months (November through April) see significantly higher occupancy rates requiring advance reservations. Cell service varies by location but remains strong at most established RV parks, with visitors reporting excellent connectivity at Shadow Hills RV Resort in Indio. Dump stations are available at most parks, with Emerald Desert and Joshua Tree Lake RV Campground offering on-site sanitary dump facilities. Desert winds can be substantial, particularly in spring months, requiring careful awning management. Nearly all RV parks in the region welcome pets, though dedicated dog parks vary in size and quality. Propane is generally not sold on-site, requiring trips to nearby towns for refills. One traveler noted, "We got a site that was an end spot so it angled down to one side quite a bit. It was difficult for us to get level and costs us our 'patio' area."

    Thousand Trails Palm Springs

    Lovely TT RV Resort!!!

The is a beautiful Thousand Trails RV Resort in Palm Springs, California! The park is large, very spacious and so clean! The gorgeous Palm trees are a little bit of a parking hazard, but they were here before we were! 😊 And besides, they are so beautiful to look at every day. The park feels like a day on beach with white sand to park on in most spaces, towering Palm trees, and brightly colored tropical flowers. What a treat in the winter! We are here in November and December and daytime high’s are in the low 80’s. The park is split in half with one side 30 amp FHU and the other half 50 amp FHU. For TT members, there is not an additional charge for 50 amp. Quite a deal! There is plenty of room to get out and walk in this park, along with a nice dog park, playground, billiards room, swimming pool and spa, horseshoes, 8 pickle ball courts, many laundry rooms and restrooms, and community recreation room. The surrounding mountains ranges are pretty amazing, too. This park is close to it all in the Palm Springs area and everything is within a short drive. Joshua Tree National Park and the Salton Sea is just over a half hour away. The Thousand Trails Palm Springs RV Resort is perfect and we will definitely be visiting again!

Cottonwood Campground — Joshua Tree National Park

    Very nice but small sites

I really liked this campground. It’s one of the campground inside Joshua Tree NP and reservable through Recreation.gov. The sites are very private but they are small. Both the pull through and back in sites are small so this is definitely not for big rigs. We had A19 which is a pull through on the right side of the road and we had to go into the gravel part of the site so we would be in enough to open our driver side slide out. And we ended up pretty slanted as a result, but it fit. There are flush toilets that are very clean. This side of the park is very nice but most of the action is north of here and so we’re an hour drive to a lot of the hikes we want to do. No cell service at all.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Shadow Hills RV Resort

    Urban Glamping during Covid

Shadow Hills RV Resort is a stellar urban RV resort with all the amenities. Full hookups, daily trash pickups at each site, cable tv, large level pads with privacy hedge, small dog parks scattered throughout, gated security, nice restrooms w/ showers (free). We were visiting family who were just a short bike ride away. Can be extremely windy here. Desert X environmental art installations are nearby.

    Palm Springs-Joshua Tree KOA

    Value for the area

Near and clean campground with clean restrooms requiring a key code to enter. Two laundry rooms. One large pool and three spas (hot tubs to folks not from So Cal) all heated with naturally heated mineral water. Secure. Park staff drive around at night to keep an eye on things. Most camps are close to the neighbors but most folks are quiet. Pay extra foe larger or premium campsites. Play area for the kids by the office. Put-put golf. Not much shade but many hedges. Gravel parking. Separate are for tents, communal sinks. Few trees around. Each camp has a sturdy picnic table. Propane fires only. And probably the same for BBQs. Great AT&T 5G cellular. Wi-Fi is weak, but it’s free.RV spot had fill hookups (water, 30 or 50 amp power, sewer, but no cable TV.

Well run and friendly, responsive staff. Understand that Desert Hot Springs is sometimes WINDY!! And that can mean dust storms, but that goes for the entire Cochella Valley. Not close to anything out here. A convenience store about 1/3 mile away. You won’t be running for coffee here. The the management sometimes hosts events and a weekend breakfast can be purchased.

All rigs are in good repair and I’ve seen nothing sketchy here at all. Been here 3 weeks with 3 more to go.

Bottom line: I would definitely stay here again, but it is a drive to get into DHS or Palm Springs. And it is windy/dusty.

    Thousand Trails Palm Springs

    Concrete Condo Camping

A well managed, well-kept park. Plenty of 50-amp sites, which usually means BIG rigs, are all back-in. The mature date palms and tight sites makes parking and manuevering diffecult for big rigs. Very lively community; lots of people out, kid playing. Proximity to Interstate 10 and railroad tracks makes it a bit noisy. But, it's NOT too bad. Plenty of TV stations along with 5G cell service. It's not in the rules so, I believe I'm allowed to wash my rig.

    Pineknot

Pineknot Campground, Big Bear Lake, Ca

A bit challenging to locate via Google Maps... Just go up (south) Summit Blvd, when you get to the parking lot of the ski resort, veer towards the left, and just past a concrete wall, you'll see the little Pineknot Campground sign attached to an aluminium pole. The campground is very cozy, countless tall pine trees, clean bathrooms, clean sites, water from taps, no hookups, and not for big rigs. The hosts are friendly, but strict! No generators from 8 pm to 8 am, a $3000 fine if your campfire is left unattended, and no rowdy obnoxious behavior is tolerated! We appreciated the rules, and thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful, quiet, deep in the woods getaway!!

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort

Family Friendly Borrego Springs full with hookups

A nice little (120 spaces or so) full hookup (30 and 50 amp) campground.  We paid $289 for 5 nights. Clean, well maintained and full of families.  Very close to downtown and Anza-Borrego Visitor Center.  Spaces are good size, no problems fitting our 30' toy hauler towed by F250, and the park is well laid out and easy to drive. Checkin was fast and easy.  There are full time residents, but they are in a different section.  We used it as a base for hiking and off-roading at Octotillo Wells (both recommended, but bring as much water as you  can carry). The property has an old west theme, and there is also a hotel , laundromat and restaurant. If you have never visited this part of California, be advised that the wind here can be VERY intense, especially at night.  Also note that Borrego Springs is a dark sky community, so please be respectful and remember to look up and enjoy the stars.

Guide to Palm Springs

Palm Springs RV parks offer exceptional desert camping opportunities from October through May, with summer temperatures often exceeding 100°F. Most facilities sit at elevations between 400-800 feet, with mountain camping options rising to 6,000+ feet at nearby locations like Idyllwild. The Coachella Valley's desert climate creates distinct seasonal camping conditions, with milder winters attracting the highest visitor numbers.

What to do

Soak in mineral hot springs: Catalina Spa and RV Resort features natural mineral spring pools maintained at comfortable temperatures. "The pools are warm and well maintained. The sites are spaced moderately with easy access to hookups and shrubbery between each site," notes a visitor who spent several weeks at Catalina Spa and RV Resort.

Visit downtown Palm Springs: Many RV parks provide convenient access to Palm Springs attractions. "Palm Springs Oasis is very small but it was a great place to stay with just a 5-10 minute drive to downtown!" shares a reviewer who stayed at Encore Palm Springs Oasis for six weeks.

Explore Joshua Tree National Park: Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground serves as a convenient base for national park exploration. "Location is nice to get to town JT or the national Park," explains a camper, with another adding it's "about 8 miles from the Joshua Tree visitor center."

What campers like

Star-gazing opportunities: Desert locations provide exceptional night sky viewing. At Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground, one visitor reports: "We booked and traveled here to show the kids the stars from a desert view, and it did not disappoint! My camera couldn't capture the magnificent view from just our site."

Pool and recreation amenities: Many Palm Springs area RV parks offer resort-style facilities. A visitor at Indian Waters RV Resort appreciated the "four pickleball courts. Clubhouse with lots of activities. Near Palm Springs and lots to explore in the area. The weather there during the Winter is darn near perfect."

Privacy between sites: Cathedral Palms RV Resort incorporates design elements for site privacy. "Small but nice park," reports a visitor, noting the "staff was nice and the park and sites were all very well kept and level on concrete slabs."

What you should know

Concrete pads improve leveling: Most Palm Springs RV parks provide concrete pads for easier setup. A visitor at Emerald Desert RV Resort noted: "Spaces are nice and wide some have full hookups others are just electric & water. They have no hookups too."

Desert winds require awning management: Strong winds can damage awnings if left unattended. One camper at Catalina Spa and RV Resort advises: "It can be windy at times, so you need to mind your awnings. It's is warm during the day but cools at night."

Winter reservations essential: October through April represents peak season with limited availability. One guest recommends: "We stayed here for a weekend and had no reservations and there was plenty of room in November."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities vary by park: When traveling with children, check each park's family offerings. At Catalina Spa and RV Resort, a visitor observed: "There is plenty of space for kids to play, with lawns and a little playground. 2 pools both with shower rooms and 2 separate laundry rooms."

Consider noise levels: Some parks are better suited for families with children. A visitor at Shadow Hills RV Resort enjoyed the "pool area seemed clean" while another visitor noted the "gated security, nice restrooms w/ showers (free)."

Holiday activities: Many RV parks organize special events during peak holiday periods. At Catalina Spa and RV Resort, one visitor shared: "We enjoyed a great Thanksgiving dinner where the park supplied turkey, stuffing and gravy and participant's brought potluck for the sides 100+ people."

Tips from RVers

Extended stay discounts: Weekly and monthly rates provide substantial savings. At Thousand Trails Idyllwild, a visitor notes: "If your a member of thousand trails this is an affordable park (free). If your a retail customer it is a little pricey even tent camping is $50-$60 a night."

Site selection considerations: Review site maps before booking to ensure appropriate size and access. "Limited availability for over 38', easy last minute reservations >=35'," advises a visitor regarding Encore Palm Springs Oasis.

Elevation differences affect temperature: Higher elevation campgrounds provide relief from summer heat. At Thousand Trails Idyllwild, which sits at 6,000-7,000 feet, a camper observed: "When I first got to Idyllwild, a little heat wave was hanging around, but by the 2nd week, the weather was beautiful."
