Lilac Oaks Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing, trail walking, and lakeside access give Lilac Oaks Campground in Valley Center, California a recreational mix that draws both tent campers and RV travelers year-round. The campground sits in forested terrain near a creek, with sites shaded by trees and grass-covered ground visible throughout. A mini mart on-site means campers who forget supplies don't have to drive far.

The campground has a split personality that reviewers consistently flag. One section caters to short-term visitors with electric and water hookups, dump station access, showers, and a pool and game room. The other functions more like a long-term residential park, with a notable number of full-time RV residents. Sites are close together, and crowding is a recurring concern in reviews. Kevin M. notes there are "many trails to walk" and "light fishing," which gives the property more to do than a typical hookup-only stopover. The lake on-site is not designated for swimming.

Hookup maintenance has drawn some criticism, with at least one reviewer noting deferred upkeep on connections. Rates run $30 to $50 per night, reservations are available, and pets are allowed. Campers who want a different atmosphere in the same part of San Diego County can look at Chandelier Springs about 1.7 miles northeast, or browse camping spots around Valley Center for additional options in the region.

Mixed experiences with some guests enjoying amenities like pools and trails, but many visitors reported overcrowded sites and maintenance concerns. The campground appears to cater more to permanent residents than traditional camping.

Great setting amongst the Oaks with some sites next to a large pond

Actually, if you are able to stand a lot of defered maintenance to the hookups this park is enjoyable.  There are a large number of full time RVers and Mobile homes living there who work at the local Casino.  When we were there (twice) the RV daily rental spaces were empty.

There are trails for walking and it is relatively close to I8 and El Cajon

Love this place

We stayed here next to the lake for a few days and just loved it. We were lucky we didnt have to leave, we got a permanent spot The spot we moved into is huge, covered by trees, plenty of parking and so quiet. The park manager Denise is amazing, if you ever need anything, she makes sure she takes care of you. It's just a few minutes to shopping, so if you forget anything it's right there. I would recommend this campground to everyone.

No privacy!

We decided to stay at a campground closer to home (Oceanside) coming back from Palomar Mountain. We were just looking for a place to stay for one night. We showed up and every campsite was stacked on top of each other. We asked if there were any other options so we circled the entire campground and ALL the sites were super close to each other. The RV section didn’t look like camping, people live there! With that said, most of the RV’s look like junkyards. So much stuff/junk everywhere. The lake isn’t pretty or swim-able. Don’t let the pictures on their website fool you, it’s crowded. I didn’t take pics myself, but I got them from their website and circled in red where people would be camping. We decided the 45 minute drive home would be better than staying there even for one night. The receptionist was late coming back from her lunch break & wasn’t helpful when we wanted our money back when we didn’t even stay there. One of the worst campsites I’ve ever seen & I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who knows real camping.

Glamping with trails

For someone looking for a glaming spot while still being able to tent it, this is the spot. Bathrooms a pool and a game room. Plus there are many trails to walk. Light fishing and a mini mart as well. It is fun

Great potential

Needs help, a lot of it. But once it is managed right and taken care of, it will be 5 stars.
