Storm Hill BLM Land offers free dispersed camping with pets allowed approximately 45 minutes north of Gillette near Devils Tower. This primitive camping area provides excellent views of Devils Tower in the distance and allows campers to enjoy a more secluded experience with their pets. The dirt road access requires careful navigation, especially for larger vehicles. Keyhole State Park's Tatanka Campground permits pets at their lakeside sites, though non-resident fees are considerably higher than resident rates. During summer months, the reservoir provides opportunities for dogs to cool off, though campers should be cautious of potential algae blooms that could be harmful to pets. Most trails in the region allow leashed dogs, but pets are not permitted on the trails at Devils Tower National Monument itself, an important consideration when planning day trips from Gillette-area campgrounds.

    Devils Tower KOA

    The view

KIA’s are the glamping of camping. That’s why we stay at them every once in awhile. The dog park wasn’t great and the WiFi speed wasn’t anything to brag about. The bathrooms were clean and they offered evening activities. This stay really sold us on the view. It’s beautiful!

    KOA, Buffalo, WY

    Quiet campground

Nice place to stop between Yellowstone and the Black Forest. Campsites were clean and well kept. This KOA has wifi, laundry, a dog park, and a lodge. The bathrooms were clean and each shower and restroom is individual so there is privacy. Checkout time is at 11 am.

This location is seasonal and not winterized. They do shut off the water in the "off-season".

Storm Hill BLM Land Dispersed Site

great view of devils tower in the distance

struck out on any camping close to devils tower, so we ended up coming here. fun little dirt road coming up the mountain to the sight. really only like 2 spots. lower spot is medium sized and we saw someone else there in a jeep. friends and i took the top spot which was big enough for a truck, a large suv, and sedan.

very quiet secluded area. got cold at night in august, but very beautiful views.

in the dark we kept seeing a tuxedo cat randomly watching us, not sure if it’s a stray or an outside cat from one of the nearby farms, didn’t come over when we enticed it and ran when we shone the light but cute little campsite friend i guess.

Homestead Campground — Keyhole State Park

    Surprisingly cool spot!

If you are on your way up to Devils Tower and are looking for camping this is definitely the spot instead of the KOA camping. Its about an hour away and way less crowded. If you like more of a primitive camping experience go for the homestead camping spots. All dirt (no contrete pads), some shade, a decent amount of space between camp spots and close to water. We only had fly fishing rods but still were able to catch some decent size bass. If you like fishing, and arent a skilled fly fisher, definitely bring a good casting rod- fish are all pretty big and aggressive (walleyes, bass, sunfish etc).

You can swim anywhere in the reservoir except where boats dock. If you have pets though I would be cautious around the water, there are tons of signs up about algea blooms.

Its a 6 hour drive from Denver, but I'll probably head up to Keyhole whenever Colorado has strict fire bans. Pretty neat spot, reservation only at the moment.

Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower — Devils Tower National Monument

    Devils Tower View

What an incredible place! Wyoming is beautiful and you cant beat the area around Devils tower. You can see the tower from all different angles.

This campground does not have electric but has portable water and bathrooms. It is first come first serve and can fit different size rigs. Some people in tents and some in really big RVS.

It is peaceful. Right near Prairie dog land, a stream and there is also a general store a mile away. You just can't beat this view at night!

Coulter Bay Campground — Keyhole State Park

    Calm and beautiful

We stayed in RV site #6 and it was close to the main road, bathrooms, and water. There is a clean water spigot steps away from the campsites. We mainly fished and paddle boarded and enjoyed the calmness of the no wake zone. There are not a lot of trees by the RV campsites but the trees and water are a short walk from the sites. Day use parking was next to the site so there was some traffic in and out of the area throughout the day.
