Best RV Parks & Resorts near Oconto Falls, WI

Several RV parks near Oconto Falls provide options for motorhome camping throughout Wisconsin's northeastern region. Fawn Lake Campground in Shawano offers full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electrical service approximately 30 miles west of Oconto Falls. The campground features spacious sites that accommodate larger motorhomes and fifth wheels. "We visited Fawn Lake in 2019 as our first trip with our new RV. Friendly owners, quiet spaces and beautiful wildlife!" according to a visitor review on The Dyrt. Peshtigo River Campground in Crivitz provides RV sites with electric and water hookups, operating from mid-April through mid-October. Door County KOA Holiday in Brussels maintains 265 sites with 30/50-amp service, sewer connections, and water hookups for larger recreational vehicles.

Advance reservations are essential during summer and fall color seasons when RV parks throughout the area reach capacity. Most campgrounds near Oconto Falls offer sanitary dump stations, though Countryside Motel & RV Sites notably lacks this amenity. As one camper noted, "NO DUMP STATION AT ALL. No garbage dumpster. Water and electric only." Cell service remains reliable at most established campgrounds in the region. Pet policies vary by location, with most parks allowing dogs with standard leash requirements. Seasonal operation typically runs May through October, with limited winter camping options. Big rig access requires careful planning at some locations, particularly those with older, narrower roads or sites positioned among mature trees.

What a great little spot to visit. They have many sites in the field or in the woods. Most with electric 30/50 amp and a beautiful lake with many family friendly things to do. The people are friendly and they have clean showers and bathrooms along with laundry.

    High Cliff State Park Campground

    Escarpment

Grew up near here and used to backpack across Lake Winnebago to winter camp and hike in January when the park was empty and no mosquitos to chew on my butt.

Indian Burial Mounds, old kilns, trails, hills, observation deck, sledding in winter, and lots of other things to do all year round.

This Park is actually on an escarpment that winds around Lake Michigan all the way to Niagara Falls. Limestone cliffs for climbing on, scenic.

in the summer the lake gets green with algae and there is a summer stretch wherever the lake flies hatch and get thick.

Good park for families. Close to small towns for resupply. Appleton & Green Bay are within striking distance as is Lake Michigan.

Bring arctic survival gear in January...subzero temps with wind chills in the negative teens is normal. Fantastic cross country skiing/snowshoeing.

    HTR Door County

Heavily wooded and quiet campground with a variety of sites.

We stayed in a pull through full hookup 30amp site with our Class C in the fall, and the leaves were beautiful. This campground is very convenient to many of the places in Door County for visitors so we loved the convenience. It is not close to a lake but is near to Green Bay. The campground backs up to a golf course though.  Very well kept up and clean, with friendly staff. We will definitely go back again!

    Peshtigo River Campground

Great for Families and a weekend getaway!

I grew up about 10 minutes away from this campground and it is still an awesome place to go when we are looking for a “staycation”!

It’s right by an elementary school so it’s a very safe area, across the road from an AMAZING playground that all ages will love, also about 50ft from a beach! The beach isn’t huge, and is open to the public so at times it gets crowded but is very safe and clean. The beach is on the peshtigo river and is great for kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, jet skiing, and tubing! There is a boat launch less than half a mile towards town on the river that is open to the public! Also includes a skatepark!

There also are two pavilions on parks grounds, both covered. One is smaller on the beach and includes grills and tables, and the other one has a stage on it for performances!

This campground is a mix between RV’s and tenting so you get the best of both worlds! Forget some necessities? No Worries! You’re a 10 minuet drive from Walmart and within walking distance of a cafe and gas stations! There are bathrooms, water hook ups, picnic tables, fire pits, and parking.

(I unfortunately do not have any recent pictures because I lost all of them but google really does a great job of showing what I’m talking about!)

    Governor Thompson State Park Campground

    Private!

Park is located in the Peshtigo River state forest. Pet friendly!! Your pets are aloud on trails and with you at your campsite. They must be on a 6 ft leash. The park is beautiful. What surprised me the most was the pit toliets that looked like tiny houses. Pictures are attached. There is a small lake which is great for kayak and swimming. This park also has a boat launch onto the Cauldron Falls Reservoir. I've attached photos of the map. Almost all the campsites are private and hidden away in their own little spots. There are a few hiking trails which i enjoyed spending time on. If you go down the street a bit you will find Old Veterans state park which has a secluded quiet lake and beach. I spent an afternoon at the beach and never saw a soul. There is not a camp store. The only thing you can buy at the park is firewood.

Guide to Oconto Falls

Camping options near Oconto Falls, Wisconsin encompass several outdoor recreation areas within a 30-mile radius. The region features a mix of dense northern forests and waterfront camping along Green Bay's western shore. Summer temperatures typically range from 65-80°F, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms possible from June through August. Fall camping extends through mid-October when temperatures drop to 40-55°F and seasonal facilities begin closing.

What to do

Water recreation: Peshtigo River access lets campers enjoy tubing trips between mid-April and mid-October. Peshtigo River Campground offers tube rentals for $14 per person with bus service to the drop-off point. "The river was nice! Low in some spots but we never had to get out and drag our stuff. Some trees to paddle around occasionally, but nothing out of the normal," notes one visitor.

Hiking opportunities: Park trail systems provide access to local natural areas. At Badger Park in Peshtigo, campers can explore wooden bridges and marked paths. "I thoroughly enjoy getting to take my kids down the same paths and wooden bridges I explored on as a kid. The campground has done a good job maintaining and expanding the trails," reports a repeat visitor to Peshtigo Badger Park Campground.

Door County exploration: Central base camp locations make exploring the peninsula convenient from several campgrounds. "They are uniquely situated just outside of Egg Harbor, with plenty of the local attractions within minutes of the park. Trolley Tours, Local Farmer's Markets, Local Wineries, and many other attractions are close by," explains one reviewer at HTR Door County.

What campers like

Family amenities: Pool facilities rank high with families, especially those with multiple water features. "We have gone here a few times this summer and have loved it every time. There are 3 pool areas one for really little ones with a 18" pool and a fun splash pad which are all fenced off so adults can sit in there and not worry about they straying to deeper pools," mentions a visitor to Door County KOA Holiday.

Affordable food options: On-site dining receives praise at some locations for convenience and value. "I think my favorite part was the office/bar area. They have fresh donuts in the morning as well as coffee. There is a bar attached to it that has AMAZING food. I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The best part of it is ITS CHEAP!"

Wooded sites: Privacy and shade matter to many campers seeking a more natural setting. "The sites are open but enough space for privacy as well, if you do the end sites. The middle sites are pretty open so there isn't a ton of room for privacy," explains a camper at Kewaunee RV & Campground.

What you should know

Site selection considerations: Choose carefully between field sites and wooded areas based on preferences. "We have stayed in a pull through full hookup 30amp site with our Class C in the fall, and the leaves were beautiful. Very well kept up and clean, with friendly staff," notes a visitor at HTR Door County.

Pet policies vary significantly: Some campgrounds have strict noise regulations for pets. "Tranquil Timbers advertises pet friendly but they ARE NOT pet friendly. If your dog makes any kind of noise whatsoever, they are NOT welcome. Motorcycles and noisy kids however, park approved!"

Dump station availability: Not all rv sites near Oconto Falls, Wisconsin offer this essential service. "Water and electric only. I thought they had to have a dump station by law to be an rv place. They said in 2018 they were working on it. Charged extra for 50 amp service," reports a camper at Countryside Motel & RV Sites.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple options for children exist at several parks. Bay Shore Park provides "2 playgrounds and lots of space to play frisbee or run around. We habe a great yime every time we go!" according to a family camper.

Beach proximity: Swimming areas provide cooling opportunities during summer months. "It's right by an elementary school so it's a very safe area, across the road from an AMAZING playground that all ages will love, also about 50ft from a beach! The beach isn't huge, and is open to the public so at times it gets crowded but is very safe and clean," notes a local visitor to Peshtigo River Campground.

Age-appropriate campgrounds: Consider noise levels and activities when selecting with children. "This Campground has a very party Atmosphere. They have immature trees but has updated the plumbing and have built a new clubhouse. They have trips to tube down the river."

Tips from RVers

Hookup positioning: Water and electric connections may require careful placement at some campgrounds. "The electric and water hookups were on opposite sides of the site, and we had to keep adjusting the travel trailer to get both to actually hook up," mentions a reviewer at Bay Shore Park.

Site surface conditions: Soil composition affects camping comfort, especially after rain. "The ground was a sandy-dirt, which wasn't too bad at first, but after an overnight rain it was a muddy mess."

Spacious sites for larger rigs: Several camping areas near Oconto Falls accommodate substantial recreational vehicles. Fawn Lake Campground provides "a long spot with full hookups. Park has a playground, small lake with a beach." A visitor notes, "We were visiting family in Shawano, WI, and stayed here for a week. Checking was easy and we had a long spot with full hookups."
