    Tranquil Timbers

    NOT PET FRIENDLY

Tranquil Timbers advertises pet friendly but they ARE NOT pet friendly. If your dog makes any kind of noise whatsoever, they are NOT welcome. Motorcycles and noisy kids however, park approved!

Diamond Lake Family Campground and Trout Farm

    Family Oriented, Family Operated

My friends and I love camping here because of the huge wooded sites, quiet family environment, and excellent service provided by Jen, Joe and their whole family. As a privately owned campground, they take their rules and security seriously to make sure their campground is safe, clean, fun, and quiet (during quiet hours). If you're looking for the party campground, this isn't it. If you're looking for lake fun (no boats) during the day and relaxing by the fire at night, this place is a must.

    Governor Thompson State Park Campground

Would give 4 if not for the ticks!

Nice site for our 17-foot travel trailer with electricity, clean pit toilets nearby, and bathroom/showers nearby. We took a 3-mile hike on the premises and came back covered with ticks, then found more on us a while later, even after a detailed inch-by-inch inspection of clothes and bodies. Site was a bit muddy after a hard rain but no standing water and sandy soil seemed to soak it up.

Diamond Lake Family Campground and Trout Farm

    Great in the Fall

The Diamond Lake area is a great example of good places to be to enjoy the Fall foliage. A simple camp setup is all I needed to enjoy my time here. The best feature here would likely be space to roam under the trees.

This campground boast a variety of site types from cabins, to a yurt, to a bunkhouse, pull-through sites, and much more. They have a playground as well as nice beaches to access the lake from. Minigolf is yet another feature on site. If you want one place that has it all for the many types of camping you may like to do, Diamond Lake is a great camp.

South Nicolet Bay Campground — Peninsula State Park

    In TOUCH with wildlife

Really great area of door county with lots to do if you venture outside the park.

So much to do inside the park. Sand beach with playground and concessions/gift shop, bike rentals on big bike trails. Kayak rentals. Hiking trails.

Our campsites have been super secluded from anyone else. So quiet at night. No one was really even playing music. Nice firepits. We saw deer down a hiking path and while we were driving in the park.

Pro-tip for this campground: Don't leave ANY garbage or food outside at all! Late-night by the campfire a (HUGE) Racoon came up within 2 feet of me eyeballing my grahm crackers. Then went into zipped up garbage can. It wasn't mean, just hungry. To avoid those visitors visit the garbage cans regularly.

    Simple solace

We stopped here for a quick overnight pit stop on our way from Minneapolis to our final destination camp site in Rowleys bay , Door county, Wisconsin. We were in a bind & needed something last minute but we still had specific wants.....like privacy! Their online reservations were easy. Pics of the sites were clear. Electric hook up & a great rate!
This camp is well off the beaten path , narrow windy roads abound. But all paved & no traffic. In fact, we never saw a soul. The drive is lovely thru the Nicollet State forest. Although, you will lose service & it your relying on GPS directions, you’ll find yourself in a bind like us. But we got out our trusty map & winged it. Cell service kicked in just in time & we made it!

Check in was a breeze. The gal was lovely & helpful. You will need a Wisconsin park’s admission sticker. The drive is still a 2.2 mile trek beyond the check in building. Our site was perfect. It was lush, green, & private . Well sized, easy to find, part grass, part gravel. Picnic table & fire ring. If you need it , they have a few bathroom buildings peppered around the loop & a very well kept shower & bathroom building upon entering the campground. I’m telling you, this place is PRIVATE. It is out there.. but still very well maintained. We were impressed by that.

If anyone one else was camping , we didn’t know until we walked the dogs around the loop. Our site was surrounded by forest & the dogs were able to roam our site freely. There were mosquitoes, as it was slightly humid & rained a bit. But nothing mosquito spray couldn’t handle. FYI- if you have kids they will be bored. There is no playground that we saw. But if you just want some peace & quiet - this is the place for you! Most of the campers were older retirees. It looked like there were trails to explore but since it was a quick stay, we didn’t get a chance. We plan on coming back for sure & checking it out. For reference: We have a 19ft travel trailer & a ford truck. We stayed at site 19 , it is pull in & it was perfect, with plenty of room for everything. We took a walk to be nosy &also liked site 20, it was even bigger! Site 14 looked great for a pull thru site. There were also some much larger sites for bigger rigs. There also plenty of tent sites that looked great too. Dogs are welcome. As an added bonus- there were raspberry bushes everywhere! They were just coming in , but if you catch it right. You’ll be up to your eyeballs in fresh raspberries.. yum!

    River Park Campground

Don't go to the state park, go here!

Located in Grayling, MI, it is just down the road from Hartwick Pines State Park, tucked back in the woods, away from the highway. It is cheaper, and more layed back than the state park. There's also a small catch and release fishing pond. Our group of friends have been going here for 5-10 years now. There are residents in motor homes that live here all year round, so the facilities are well maintained, especially under the new manager, since he bought the family run company a year ago. He has cleaned up the grounds, opening more room for campers, and has opened up a second bathhouse facility. The original bathhouse comes equipped with hot showers, and there is a place outside for motor homes do empty their refuse. The tent lot is one big open area, and there is no limited space like most other camp sites. There is also water access on them. Some lots have electrical access as well for campers who want to bring there motor homes. There is a small store for supplies for things you might want during your stay, like some groceries, bug spray, sunscreen, and other things. There is also an ice freezer with bags of ice. The grounds aren't that from from town, so if you needed anything else, it'd be a quick trip. It's a good location near both the Manistee and AuSable rivers if you want to go on a canoe/kayak/tubing trip too. I recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area.

    Devils River Campground

    Mm

It’s a nice beach. Bathrooms are nice, they need some decor to make it homey. We have a 30 foot camper and the site we were on, let’s just say we had a hell of a time backing up and smashed one of our back windows in the truck that’s how tight it was. D would have been allot better. Beautiful here but not sure we will come back

Guide to Oconto Falls

Diamond Lake Family Campground and Trout Farm offers luxury accommodations within 12 miles of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. The property operates from May through October with weekend rates starting at $150 for glamping options. What to do

Lake activities: The water recreation areas at Diamond Lake Family Campground include inflatables and water slides for families. "We don't have small kids but 2 of the couples we were with did and they had so much fun with the water chute and inflatables," notes Jennifer G. The campground maintains designated swimming areas separate from fishing zones.

Hiking trails: Trails through the Nicolet National Forest provide access to numerous lakes and wildlife viewing opportunities. "The Quartz Hill Trail is a bit of a drive past Townsend," mentions Art S. from Boot Lake Campground, where visitors find quieter forest settings beyond the more developed facilities.

Fishing spots: Multiple stocked ponds and natural lakes offer fishing throughout the region. "Boot lake is actually the shape of a boot. It provides some decent fishing from shore but excellent fishing from a boat," explains Christopher R. Most campgrounds allow fishing with proper Wisconsin licensing, with catch-and-release regulations at private facilities.

What campers like

Wooded privacy: Many sites in the area feature natural separation between camping units. "The sites were a little less secluded than we expected but weren't on top of each other by any means," notes Erin P. about Potawatomi State Park. The park maintains vegetation barriers between sites while providing access to shoreline areas.

Clean facilities: Campgrounds maintain regular cleaning schedules for bathrooms and shower facilities. At River Park Campground, "Bathrooms are the best we've seen in a long time...super clean with individual shower rooms," according to Ron M. Most campgrounds offer both flush toilets and pit toilets depending on location within the property.

Seasonal events: Many campgrounds schedule themed weekends throughout the summer. "This weekend there was a screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas and loads of cool decked out campsites," reports Jaime N. from Pine Grove Campground, where Halloween activities start in late summer.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most glamping options near Oconto Falls require advance booking, particularly for summer weekends. "First time being at this campground and I absolutely fell in love with it. Family-owners take pride in owning a quiet campground and doesn't allow outsiders," explains Nathan C.F., highlighting the restricted access policies.

Weather considerations: The region experiences significant seasonal temperature variations. "We went the weekend after Labor Day and basically had the whole place to ourselves. Very quiet and peaceful," notes Jeff F. from Governor Thompson State Park, where fall camping offers more solitude but cooler temperatures.

Wildlife awareness: Campers should prepare for encounters with local wildlife. "Did hear some bear walking the first night and some coyotes/or wolves howling literally right behind our tent the second night," reports Jeff F. about camping experiences in the area.
