Holtwood Campground welcomes pets with spacious sites along the Oconto River, offering tent and RV camping options with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections. The campground provides clean bathrooms, showers, and drinking water for both campers and their canine companions. North Bay Shore Park, situated directly on Green Bay, allows dogs throughout its 37 sites with ample room between campsites and mature trees providing shade. Both campgrounds feature fire rings, picnic tables, and trash disposal. Sites at Holtwood have electric hookups with 50-amp service available, while North Bay Shore offers water and electric at most sites with paved parking pads that accommodate larger rigs. The grounds are constantly maintained with seasonal camping available from May through October. Campers frequently notice the park's festive atmosphere with seasonal decorations.

The riverside location at Holtwood provides excellent opportunities for fishing and kayaking with pets, while North Bay Shore Park offers direct access to the shores of Green Bay for dogs that enjoy swimming and shoreline walks. Hiking trails connect to both campgrounds, though North Bay lacks beachfront areas for traditional beach walking with dogs. Leashed pets must be supervised at all times in both locations. Clean-up stations are available, and the spacious sites provide ample room for dogs to rest comfortably at camp. The fishing opportunities at North Bay Shore make it particularly popular with anglers bringing their dogs along. Nearby woods surrounding these campgrounds create natural buffer zones and provide additional walking routes. County parks enforce standard pet policies including current vaccinations and proper waste disposal. During summer months, shaded sites are recommended for pets due to seasonal heat.

      Tranquil Timbers

      NOT PET FRIENDLY

Tranquil Timbers advertises pet friendly but they ARE NOT pet friendly. If your dog makes any kind of noise whatsoever, they are NOT welcome. Motorcycles and noisy kids however, park approved!

      Shawano County Park

First stay at this campground and would definitely go back

Stayed for the first time at this campground in July and loved it. We stayed on a tent site, it was huge and had electric. I love that the campground is right on the lake and there’s quite a few amenities for people who boat. It is pet friendly and the bathrooms are quite a walk but clean and hot water is available.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      A Gem!

Woodsy camping, multiple hiking altitude options including cliff views of Lake Winnebago, historic burial mounds, preserved lime kilns, equine trails, picnicking area, boating opportunities and a beach for swimming. Spend a day or a week! You’ll never find yourself asking what to do. I grew up in the area and have been here many, many times. To camp, to hike for the day, to trudge into the campground during winter to have a day-fire, coordinate family reunions, train with a backpack on the lime-kiln trail and swimming with the dog. Really, it’s all here. Mostly not super busy and when the traffic is heavier, everyone is very nice. Picnic areas can get buggy as can the lake get green, all depends on the time of year and season. Family and pet friendly. Great spot near the Fox Valley.

      Governor Thompson State Park Campground

      Private!

Park is located in the Peshtigo River state forest. Pet friendly!! Your pets are aloud on trails and with you at your campsite. They must be on a 6 ft leash. The park is beautiful. What surprised me the most was the pit toliets that looked like tiny houses. Pictures are attached. There is a small lake which is great for kayak and swimming. This park also has a boat launch onto the Cauldron Falls Reservoir. I've attached photos of the map. Almost all the campsites are private and hidden away in their own little spots. There are a few hiking trails which i enjoyed spending time on. If you go down the street a bit you will find Old Veterans state park which has a secluded quiet lake and beach. I spent an afternoon at the beach and never saw a soul. There is not a camp store. The only thing you can buy at the park is firewood.

North Nicolet Bay Campground — Peninsula State Park

      Closest campground to the beach

North and South Nicolet Bay campgrounds is where the action is. It felt like spring break out at the beach and boat ramp (no pets allowed on beach).

North Nicolet has no power sites, all are no hookups. There is a dump station and water fill near Tennison Bay campground.

Campground is very close to the beach, and you definitely hear the shrieking children from the beach, especially if you get a site close to the beach like we did, so heads up.

There’s a host on site, flush toilets, and showers. Recycling and garbage here as well as a playground.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

So much to do for everyone

No matter what your skill level you can find a trail here from easy to challenging to hike or bike.  There is a beach, a marina, Lake Winnebago, horse trails, hiking, biking and pet beach and picnic area.  The park is very clean and pretty.  There is a playground, several vault toilet areas spread around and a shower house.   Some sites have electric and there is a dump station and water fill up.

Both AT &T and Verizon provided good service and the ability to stream.  Spaces are large and have many  trees for shade and privacy.

    Guide to Oconto Falls

Pet friendly camping near Oconto Falls, Wisconsin centers around the Oconto River watershed and Lake Michigan's western shore. Located in the glacial till plains of northeastern Wisconsin at elevations ranging from 600-800 feet, the area features dense mixed hardwood forests that offer natural shade throughout summer. Sites typically drain well after rain due to the sandy-loam soil composition common to the region.

    What to Do

River recreation: Holtwood Campground provides access to the Oconto River for fishing and water activities. "The campground is in the town of Oconto, on the Oconto river, with easy access to fishing and kayaking. The train goes through town in the early morning hours and blows its horn multiple times," notes Valerie B.

Hiking trails: At Bagley Rapids NF Campground, visitors can explore forest paths while enjoying the sound of moving water. "We head a great time staying there for 3 nights. Visited John's spring trail that has great views; good exercise. Campground has water and toilet pit. Well maintained," shares Artem I.

Historical exploration: Visit the archaeological site at Old Oconto Copper Culture State Park, which contains ancient burial grounds dating back thousands of years. "This park is named after the little-understood Copper Culture people; so named because we have little more information about them other than their use of the metal. A few trails go through what is thought to be a massive mass burial pit of the Copper Culture that could be older than 5000 years," explains David K.

    What Campers Like

Waterfront sites: Many campers appreciate the shoreline access at North Bay Shore Park. "Pristine waterfront over looks the Green Bay with clear views towards Door County. The park has plenty of space for the kids to play and have fun. The campsites are near to the woods and give a good natural feel to the camping space," writes David K.

Budget-friendly options: Affordable camping with amenities draws many visitors to the region. "North Bay Shore Camp is absolutely amazing and breathtaking. The campground sits right on Lake Michigan. So pristine and peaceful. Only 37 sites so it is quiet and most gorgeous views. Electric and water hookup during week $15," reports Amanda L.

River sounds: Campers frequently mention the calming effect of staying near running water. "Many of the sites are right on the river. The campsites are wooded and shady, and have plenty of trees that are placed ideally for hammock hanging. My favorite thing about this campsite is that it is right on the water. You can hear the constant rushing of the water over the rapids, which is so relaxing at night," describes Mary M. about Bagley Rapids.

    What You Should Know

Weather considerations: Summer temperatures can vary significantly, making site selection important. "After stopping here this year, edit to add that sadly, most of the trees (especially the ones in the middle of the loop) are gone, due to emerald ash borer. There are many small trees that have been planted to replace them, but it will be a few years until they have shade potential," warns Deb M. about North Bay Shore Park.

Accessibility issues: Some campgrounds have challenges with utilities placement. "We liked the campground and would come again but the electricity and water was far away from the site probably over 60 feet away," notes Barry H. about Shawano County Park.

Seasonal planning: Chute Pond Park operates with specific seasonal limitations. "Sites are nice, a lot of shade on most sites. Some sites are harder to back into with long trailers. But over all sites have easy access. Nice swimming area and hiking trails. Slippery rock is a must see. Fishing is also good for the outdoors men or women," advises Pete W.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Water activities: Families with children can enjoy various water options. "Chute Pond Park is one of my favorite campgrounds to stay at. They have reasonable rates, clean bathrooms and almost all sites are electric. There's lots to do the whole weekend whether you want to go hiking, fishing, boating, small cliff jumping, or take a walk to slippery rock. This year they also have now available kayaks for rent at $20 per hour," shares Makenzie S.

Playground access: Peshtigo River Campground offers recreational amenities close to camping areas. "It's right by an elementary school so it's a very safe area, across the road from an AMAZING playground that all ages will love, also about 50ft from a beach! The beach isn't huge, and is open to the public so at times it gets crowded but is very safe and clean," explains Tayah H.

Safety considerations: Parents should note water safety issues at some locations. "As there isn't a beach, small children should stay out of the river due to its strong current, so this might not be the best choice if you're going purely for the water," cautions Chris B. about Bagley Rapids.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: RVers should check site dimensions before booking. "We thought we had a small site- until we got there. Site 86 is the smallest on the map but it is not small at all! We have a 33 1/2 ft 5th wheel and had plenty of space. We could have had some tents on the site if we wanted to! The fire pit was away from the level area the RV is to be parked," recommends Kelli V. about Peshtigo River Campground.

Hookup locations: Some campgrounds have unusual utility placement. "The electric and water hookups were on opposite sides of the site, and we had to keep adjusting the travel trailer to get both to actually hook up. The ground was a sandy-dirt, which wasn't too bad at first, but after an overnight rain it was a muddy mess," warns Nikki & Mike about Bay Shore Park.

Seasonal considerations: RV campers should be aware of park closures and operations. "We are spending a month at Holtwood Campground Oconto, in our motor home, while preparing our boat for winter storage. Loving it here! Spacious sites and nice view! Office staff are so very helpful and patient with me. Just love those girls! And the groundskeepers are constantly working on the landscape," shares Rae P.
