Belle Isle State Park Campground offers thirty spacious sites with water and electrical hookups for pets and their owners. Dogs are welcome throughout the developed campground area on leashes no longer than 6 feet. The park features scenic hiking trails along the water's edge where leashed pets can explore, though owners should bring plenty of bug spray as mosquitoes and horse flies can be particularly aggressive, especially during summer months. Tent campers, RV travelers, and those staying in the park's cabins can bring their pets, with clean facilities and well-maintained grounds throughout. Sites provide ample space between neighbors, offering privacy while camping with dogs. The campground is remote and quiet, with most sites featuring shade and level surfaces.

Westmoreland State Park Campground provides another pet-friendly option near Morattico, with similar leash requirements and pet policies. Both parks require proper waste disposal and discourage excessive barking during quiet hours. Visitors planning extended stays should note the limited nearby services—the closest grocery stores and veterinary clinics are 20-30 minutes away, so arriving prepared with pet supplies is essential. The parks' water access points allow dogs to cool off, with Belle Isle featuring a shallow beach area where pets can wade alongside their owners. Seasonal considerations include higher bug activity in summer months and potential wildlife encounters—owners should keep pets secured to avoid interactions with local wildlife. The paved roads throughout Belle Isle make for easy walking with dogs, while the numerous hiking trails provide exercise opportunities for both pets and their owners.

      Americamps RV Resort

      Most Dog-Friendly

Enjoyed my corner pull-through site F2 even though it was gravel with some muddy spots. There are some paved spots near the entrance (7-10 and 15-19 plus VIP 1 & 2). Fire pits and wood for $6 upon request. Nice office with two small dogs to greet you and a jar of dog treats. Was decked out for Halloween during my stay, and the flower beds, pond, playground, basketball court and dog park were among the nicest. There is even an on-site dog walker, so dog people will really appreciate staying here. I noticed one side of the park (around site 22) is very noisy during the work day as there is a big lumber yard there. The proximity to the Great Outdoors and a couple of cute pub houses was a nice surprise. Recycling dumpster on site.

      Williamsburg Campground

      Very nice campground

The cabin we stayed in was very nice. It had a very large back deck with a picnic table. We chose one without a bathroom, and the bathhouse was a very short walk. They have plenty of recreational activities for the kids. The staff was friendly and helpful. The playgrounds and pool were very clean, and the store had everything we needed. It is a very short drive off the highway and an easy commute to all of Williamsburg’s attractions. My only complaint is that my dogs typically travel everywhere with me, but I was not allowed to bring them on this trip because pit bulls are the ONLY breed they don’t allow on the campgrounds. However, if you have other breeds there is a very small dog park for them to run around and play. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay at other KOAs when the dogs are not with us.

      Sun Outdoors Cape Charles

      Huge campground!

We stayed here for 12 days during the pandemic. The campground is huge, with lots of amenities. We stayed in the large sites, in the last row beside the field, which was nice, gave extra parking and extra space to play. The spots for smaller campers looked difficult to find/park, but it was very empty so difficult to say. Nice dog park and dog beach.

Point Lookout State Park - Temporarily Closed

      5 stars! Beautiful, clean, magical

Magical stay at Point Lookout — New Tulip Loop (Full Hook‑Up) and I’m already planning a return. The whole park feels peaceful and safe, the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and our site is clean and well‑maintained. The loop’s energy felt magical — quiet, restorative, and tucked into the trees so it felt private but not isolated. Full hookups were convenient and reliable; the site layout is roomy and pet‑friendly, with an easy walk to a beautiful dog beach so our pup had a blast. We walked to stunning beaches and spent afternoons watching water and sky at the tip of the peninsula — spectacular views where the Potomac meets the Chesapeake. The park’s Civil War history and lighthouse added fascinating, walkable sites to explore between beach time, giving the stay both recreation and depth. Clean facilities, helpful staff at the park office, and well-marked trails made everything low‑stress and enjoyable. If you want a peaceful, historic, pet‑friendly Class A spot with full hookups and gorgeous nearby beaches, Tulip Loop at Point Lookout is five stars from me.

      Williamsburg Campground

      Great Choice in Williamsburg

One of the best campgrounds we’ve stayed at. It’s our first experience with a KOA, and so far impressed. The whole campground is shady, and while some sites appear pretty on top of one another most, including ours, are are standard. Great amenities, including a pool and a small splash pad. The jumping pillows are awesome for the kids. The only criticisms are that the dog park is very small, and the sewer hook up for our site is nearly above the outlet (although this seems site specific). We are in Williamsburg a lot and will definitely be back.

    Guide to Morattico

Belle Isle State Park offers 30 water and electric hookup sites near Morattico in Virginia's Northern Neck region. The park sits at the confluence of the Rappahannock River and Mulberry Creek, with an elevation ranging from sea level to about 20 feet. Seasonal variations affect camping conditions significantly, with summer highs averaging 85°F accompanied by high humidity and bug activity, while fall temperatures moderate to 65-75°F with reduced insect pressure.

    What to do

Fossil hunting and beachcombing: Westmoreland State Park provides unique opportunities to search for prehistoric shark teeth along its shoreline. "Beautiful views, good trails, nice sites. A lot of fun here," notes Jason L. about the park's diverse attractions. The fossil beach requires a moderate hike, but the reward is worth the effort.

Kayaking the calm waters: Belle Isle State Park offers kayak rentals for exploring the peaceful Rappahannock River. "There is an awesome little store to buy supplies, bait, and rent kayaks," mentions Ruby W. The protected waters are suitable for beginners and provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

Night sky observation: The remote location at Belle Isle creates minimal light pollution. "Nice get-away from it all campground. Level sites, farmland all around. Well maintained, quiet campground," reports Ashley I. The open areas near the water provide ideal stargazing conditions on clear nights.

    What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Campers consistently praise the generous spacing at Belle Isle State Park. "Sites are plenty long and patio areas quite large. Showers are separate from the bathrooms. Both are clean and well maintained," confirms Charles C. Most sites feature trees for shade and natural buffers between neighbors.

Waterfront access: Point Lookout State Park offers multiple water access points. "There is a beach area for swimming and a Civil War fort. Inside the campground is a great nature center which rents kayaks and canoes," says Carrie A. The swimming areas feature gradual entry with sandy bottoms.

Year-round availability: Unlike some seasonal campgrounds, Belle Isle State Park remains open throughout the year. "Spent Halloween here on a last minute reservation and man were we happy! This campsite is remote to the rest of VA for the most part," shares Frank E. The park's winter camping offers a completely different experience with fewer visitors.

    What you should know

Bug preparation essential: The marshy environment around Belle Isle creates ideal conditions for biting insects. "We had super mutant mosquitoes and horse flies. They were resistant to citronella candles, essential oils, and bug spray with 40% deet," warns Gina G. Campers should bring multiple types of repellent and consider screened shelters.

Limited services nearby: The rural location means planning ahead for supplies. "Come stocked with food and water since I don't think there's any large food markets that are close by," advises Frank E. about Belle Isle State Park. The nearest substantial grocery stores are 20-30 minutes away.

Seasonal water conditions: Water quality at Westmoreland State Park varies throughout the year. "At the time of my visit a couple of weeks ago there was a bit of algae in the water that could cause irritation to stomach and skin, so just be mindful of this," reports RL. Check with park rangers about current conditions.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Bethpage Camp-Resort stands out for its extensive family facilities. "Pool is incredible for all ages. Employees are super friendly. Multiple kids playgrounds. Ice cream shop," notes Happy Champers. The water features provide hours of entertainment during hot summer days.

Educational opportunities: Westmoreland State Park offers structured activities for children. "I love the sharks' teeth display in the shop and when I was there they were working on putting bones together of a whale that was found!" shares RL. Rangers often conduct interpretive programs throughout peak seasons.

Playgrounds and open spaces: Belle Isle provides multiple areas for children to play. "There are a couple playgrounds, swing sets, and tons of open areas for children to enjoy. The trails are nice and fairly well kept," mentions Lucille W. The grassy fields are ideal for ball games and other active pursuits.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup locations: Belle Isle State Park offers practical site configurations. "Sewer is in 2 locations for each site," reports Happy Champers about the convenient hookup arrangement. This flexibility allows for easier positioning of RVs within sites.

Weather protection: The open field layout at many sites means preparation for wind. "Bring your golf cart or rent one there. Was a great safe location in port of storm, the sites mostly drained well," notes Beverly T. about Grey's Point Camp during tropical storm conditions.

Cell service variability: Connectivity can be limited in these rural areas. "Verizon: 2 bars of LTE," reports Charles C. about Belle Isle State Park. Service diminishes significantly in wooded areas and can be non-existent during storms.
