The mainland portion of the park offers over 100 campsites, 49 of which are equipped with electrical hook-ups to accommodate tent or vehicle campers.

Three centrally located bath houses have hot water showers and flush toilets.
Campers must arrive and check-in before quiet hours start at 10:00 PM. Campers who arrive after 10:00 PM will not be allowed into the park and will have to find other accommodations for the night.
Backcountry Campsites and Permits The primitive backcountry campsites are equipped with tent platforms and boat landings. Campers at these environmentally sensitive sites must obtain a permit from the park and strictly follow Leave No Trace principles. Youth Group Camping The park offers a 30 person youth group site, featuring a shaded but open area with a stone fire pit, group grill and picnic tables.
Full Service Cabins Four rustic waterfront cabins are available for rent year round. Each sleeps six persons and is equipped with three bedrooms, a common area, kitchen, bathroom, a screened porch with picnic table, air conditioning, heat, gas log fireplaces (available seasonally), an outdoor fire ring with a grill, a picnic table and ample parking. Cabin kitchens are equipped with an oven, stove, refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave, basic cooking utensils and service for six. Renters must provide their own towels and bedding (linens, pillows and blankets).
Camper Cabins Four waterfront camper cabins that sleep four are available during the camping season. Each has a capacity of four persons and is equipped with air conditioning and heat, electric, a table and chairs, either two sets of bunk beds or a double bed and a set of bunk beds, ceiling fan, a picnic table and fire ring. Occupants must use the campground bathhouses.

And no worries if you don’t have a tent or camper, because they have cozy yet roomy glamping tents available!We love camping at CRP! Everyone is always friendly and helpful! Facilities are always clean and well maintained. We have stayed in the spring as well as late summer without any problems. There is a camp store, two bath houses, and a convenient dump station. Playground and fenced pool. A boat ramp for motorized boats as well as a launch site for kayaks. Bring your own or rentals available. Looking forward to our next visit this Spring!

GuideThe campground is in a great location to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestowne, and Yorktown and is a great home base for exploring those sites. They have a modern bathhouse and a pool. The tent sites are kind of close together and lack privacy but we were the only ones there Sunday night so it wasn’t that big of a deal. There are lots of trees to protect you from the harsh Virginia sun and great views of the Chickahominy river.
GuideThis is a great campground that my family loves to visit. It is close to Virginia Beach so there is no excuse not to get away. You can rent a boat or swim in the pool and even enjoy the paddleboats. there is a waterpark and a little country store. I have had friends that rent their cabins or bring an RV, as well as pitch a tent. Lets goncamping!

I’m not sure if this is typical of Thousand Trails/Encore or not. The location is wonderful, as far as it’s close to interstate 64 providing access to Williamsburg, Richmond and Virginia Beach. Getting to the actual “resort” is difficult, hard to find and small roads. The sites are close, many are not level, not very big rig friendly and satellite is near impossible due to trees. It is unfortunate that it feels too residential, more trailer park feel. On the up side, the staff is friendly and try to accommodate as best possible. Activities abound including game room, indoor & outdoor pools, corn hole, basketball, beautiful putt putt course and adult/child activities. Suggest calling over online booking.
LegendThis is a beautiful campground, right on the Chickahominy River. There are several sites right on the river, another bunch along the road, and a large field with more sites. These are in full sun, so they will be hot in summer! Those by the river are very nice, large, mostly lever, and with full hookups (30/50 amp). There is shade, and a nice breeze off the river. There is a boat ramp with lots of traffic on weekends, but boaters have a separate parking area. There is a nice bike/running path, (the Virginia Capital Trail-51 Miles from Jamestown to Shiplock Park) a playground, pool & splash pad, fishing pier, and group sites.

Machicomoco State Park is one of Virginia’s brand-new parks in a great location on the York River! All the facilities are new and very clean. I love that the campground bathrooms are all unisex/family bathrooms and there are plenty of them, at least eight I believe. The non-electric sites are in little loops off the main road. You have to park on the road and walk all your gear in. It’s not very far though, I counted about 100 steps to site 13, the one farthest from the road. The non-electric sites back up to trees but are not particularly shaded or private. There is a water spigot in each loop. The sites are meticulously maintained. Lots to do in park including trails, a car-top boat launch, and tons of information on the Native American tribes of the area. Definitely worth a visit!

We've stayed here pretty often as it's only a few hours from home and near everything in Williamsburg, Virginia. The park is against the James river and theres easy access to the riverside. There's also a large pool during the season with a camp store, snacks. The staff are always great, the sites are level and not too close together, with plenty of shade. The bathrooms and showers are kept clean and the showers are huge! There's plenty to do on the grounds, hiking, biking, touring the plantation, geocaching, and yes, even Pokemon Go! About 5 miles away is the ferry to Williamsburg...its free and usually a highlight of the trip for the kids! You can follow history or ride plenty of roller coasters at Busch Gardens.

I LOVE this park. The tent sites are awesome and mine have always been pretty private feeling despite being somewhat near others. Bathhouses are always SO clean and heated in the winter. So appreciate the recycling bins. I love the sharks’ teeth display in the shop and when I was there they were working on putting bones together of a whale that was found! At the time of my visit a couple of weeks ago there was a bit of algae in the water that could cause irritation to stomach and skin, so just be mindful of this. I did hike down to fossil beach but definitely avoided the water. If you’re anything like me, traveling for peace and quiet and solitude, I highly recommend Sunday and Monday nights if you have flexibility with jobs etc. It was SUPER quiet during my stay. Absolutely wonderful. Oh - and check for ticks and bring your bug spray. Gotta love humid Virginia summers! I had site A22 and it was away from a bit compared to other sites.

LegendChippokes State Park is located on the grounds of an old historic plantation, actually one if the original plantations in the area dating back to the 1600’s. The land grant was huge, and as a state park now it provides a rich opportunity to learn about the James River, the natural and indigenous history of the region, the settlement history and role of this plantation in Virginia History, and more. Visiting here provides hiking opportunities to learn about fossils along the river shore, the temperate forest in the woods, and history around the old plantation. Taking the ferry across the river from Jamestown to get here was part of the adventure too. There is a nature center and visitor center that provides lots of info and programs near the river , a network of easy park roads for biking, and the plantation itself, set back further away from the river, provides a wealth of learning, including about the history of crops and trade in this area, and about the lives of the slaves who worked the plantation. The grounds right around the plantation are, in fact, a memorial to the hundreds of souls who lived and worked the land here. It was an amazing learning experience to come to the park, and the options to stay over in the park include standard campsites in a wooded campground, or cabins. The campground has all the usual state park amenities, and was very quiet when we were there in November—so late fall is a great time to come, as the fall weather was amazing
TravelerFor 6 nights in late August 2018, my boyfriend and I stayed at a tent campsite with our 4 girls, ages 10-16. We needed a budget friendly option and shopped online to compare reviews. We had 3 day passes to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg and Water Country USA, so we needed to be within a short drive from the parks. Chickahominy Riverfront Park was the answer to our prayers! We had a beautiful spot along the river, so two of the girls spent every moment at the camp swimming and talking girl talk. The campsites were spacious and we had no immediate neighbors, so we spread out. The park rangers drove by every few hours and seemed very friendly and helpful, not invasive. They never complained about my boyfriend's car parked a campsite over, or about our game tent that was completely in the next site.
One secret goal was to experiment with different campfire food. We may campfire chili, biscuits and gravy, layered nachos, bacon egg and cheese English muffins, and omelettes. We also had the traditional s'mores and hotdogs, (covered in campfire chili!)
I was prepared for the passing thunderstorms. We picked up tarps and ropes and strung them up over our cooking area and the entrance to our tents. Most of the time, we were not at the campsite during the rain, but it did help while the trees drained afterwards. We were camping next to the "Jones's," so we got touches of tent envy, but then laughed to ourselves when it took them all morning to pack up thier Castle and small village.
The swimming pool was incredibly large and CLEAN!!! I was surprised! It felt very refreshing and even had a adult swim time and attentive life guards.
The bathrooms and showers were good enough, typical camp showers. Bring your own soap and wear flip flops and you'll be fine. There's a utility sink outside the bathhouse to scrub things off as well. We didn't see the dumpster the first couple days, it is across the street from the bathhouse. Use it whenever you leave or sleep, or all the beautiful wild animals will snack on it! We saw a fat raccoon, daring squirrels, a turtle, and vultures. There are gorgeous, HARMLESS, garden spiders that are shockingly large and bright yellow. My boyfriend also saw a harmless black snake on a trail.
This campground caters to fishermen. The camp store has very limited food. They do have fishing gear and ice.
I do have one regret. I opted to leave the bikes at home, not knowing this campground also caters to people riding the Virginia Creeper bike trail!!! it went for miles and was beautiful!!! Next time!

This place has everything you could ever need. I had tons of fun! If I could give them more stars, I would. The people like to play late into the night on the weekends. This did not bother me.
ScoutWe stayed here for a week (Saturday to Saturday) and absolutely loved it! From the moment you pull up to the gate, to the moment we left the gate it was great! Once you pull up to the gate the staff checks you in and you get your paperwork, you pull ahead about 200 yards to meet another member of the park on a golf cart who guides you to your site and assists you to backing in if you wish! Everyone staff member we met was as nice as could be! The kids loved the water park that had three big slides, three pools (one of which was a kiddie pool) and a water park playground! They also have small beach area to the swimming “lake” they have, a nice little 18hole putt putt with ice cream place as well! We also saw three playgrounds for the kids to play! They have a store on site, golf cart rentals (a bit pricey), private boat ramp, and a long dock you can fish from! The weekends get a bit busy but Monday to Thursday was practically empty! There is a great grocery store maybe a mile out side of the campground with a deli and everything right in the town of Urbana! Also the best restaurant we have ever been to right down the street from the grocery store called “Something Different” it’s a must!
My only cons would be price of golf cart rental, and the younger kids going up and down the main strip blaring all kinds of music on the personal golf carts and at times going quite fast with all ages of kids around.

We love having both options for spending some time in the water. The playgrounds are large and fun for the younger kids. With all paved streets the campground is perfect for bike riding. The sites are all very large and accommodating for groups of multiple campers. Overall, it’s just an amazing place to spend some time camping!

ScoutThis was our second year....we will return next year! Fantastic place one of our top places to camp. Our son still talks about the cardboard boat races from last season! Always clean, pool complex is great, playgrounds are a hit with our son. Sweet Justice played this year on the Saturday we were there....phenomenal band....we had an awesome time. Cant wait to go back!

ScoutWe stayed in Sycamore 09. The site was clean and level. No fire pit or grill, so plan ahead. We went the last weekend the pool was open, which wasn’t crowded at all. Casino night was a blast! Overall a family friendly place with plenty for the kids to do!
