Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Ingleside, TX

Fine place to stop on the way through and very friendly staff. There is a petting zoo with miniature donkeys and horses, goats and emus! This was a wonderful treat feeding the critters. Sites are small, dirt and uneven. Pictures show a playground, dog park, etc., however, none of these things exist. It looks like they did at one point, but not in the last decade. No atvs or activities listed on website which was frustrating for the kids. Lake was entirely dry—of course no fault of the campground, but didn’t allow for fishing, etc. There were plenty of sites available but we were placed right by the train tracks and main highway. I do understand why, though, because there are quite a few permanent folks toward the back of the park.

An affordable quiet campground on the lake in South Texas. Beautfiul oak trees and sites are nicely kept. A perfect place place to fish and very pet friendly. No extra fees for people or pets.

Recently stayed here cause we got in late and they were the only 1 open to take us in. Well lighten up and loved the laundry room. The manager came out to settle up the next morning and even gave us a free rv mug for our stay. Pet friendly.  Showers  were nice & clean! Wish the pool was open because we had to stay another night but we were told it will be ready soon. The friendly German Shepherd was a bonus since we had our pets out and seems to be unbothered them😳. We will be back for sure. Thank you for the pleasant stay.

We retired and our first stay has been at Port A RV resort. Very friendly staff and guests. We already feel as though we have been doing this for a long time. Lots of neighbor activities and pet friendly too. 2 pools, a hot tub, several gathering spots, laundry, palm trees... just feels like home.

We travel 6 months a year in a 42 ft. 5th wheel.  We often travel with my mom and dad and their pup, who have a Class A.  We made reservations for 2 sites for 3 months (January, February and March of 2023) last June, 2022.  I advised the reservation desk up front that we travel with 4 small rescue pups and was told it was not an issue.  She required detailed information on each pup, which included name, age, weight and breed.  Within an hour of our arrival, we were informed that RJourney had a 2 dog limit.  I advised Becky, the interim manager, that I advised reservation desk last June that we have 4 pups and that I had given detailed information.  We were allowed to stay but received many snide and negative comments during our stay from other RVer’s.    Our pups are walked on 6 foot leashes ( no 15 foot retractable leashes for us) and are never outside without being leashed and with us.  We did walk the park several times a day with our pups and my parents pup often joined us. 

 There are many cats that also reside in the RV park and are allowed to roam freely outside without restraint and their poop is not picked up.  In most of the parks we have stayed in, there are requirements for cats to be leashed or have an outdoor cat “tent.”

There is a wonderful club house for those that choose to join in activities, such as cards, pool, pot luck, bingo etc.  That is not our thing, but we did use the outdoor pool and it was very nice.  It didn’t take very long to realize that there was a lot of drama, passive aggressive behavior, and infighting occurring in the park and with management.  Our neighbors around us were wonderful and we just interacted with them.  

There are lots of issues of  junk and hoarding around rigs, especially in the older area of the park.  It was not unusual to see refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and tons of totes and large containers sitting under and around rigs.  

The roads in the park are in terrible shape.  Tons of huge cracks and potholes.  Very poor lighting on parks roads at night.  Huge risks of trips and falls for older folks.  RJourney did come in during our stay and lay tar and chat in the parking lot and and road beside club house but stopped after those repairs.

When the wind blows out of the north,  there is a horrible sewage smell those on the wrong side of the north wind.  

The free WI-FI only lasts a week and then you have to sign up.  Not very workable for us.

I will not go back there. There are loos dog running around. My Dog all most got jump on. The fishing marina has close for 2 years. The only you can us is the boat ramp. You cant fish from the bank. The Rv site are to close to each other,It is mostly a place if you going to live there. Even if I was going to do that it would not be THERE.

This campground is amazing!!! The staff is very friendly & helpful. Perfect location. About 2 blocks from the beach. Restaurants and site seeing a few more blocks away. Nice & quiet well kept place. Level concrete pads. Plenty of regularly mowed grass for dogs.

Spacious sites, long level, concrete pads (70' or so). All utilities are located at the rear of the pads on the driver's side rear corner. Took one, 25' water hose, 2 slinky's to reach the sewer drain. 50 amp hookup with no issues. We told most sites have stickers in the grass, site 27, where we stayed did not have many. We're told to stay off the grass with all vehicles, all sites have a nice large "front" yard. Do not leave you pooch tired up unattended outside, as there is a pack of coyotes they sneak around especially after dark. Or daughter had one sneak up to within 20' of her. Or Great Dane scared it off. The next night, I saw one silhouetted, at our neighboring site. The coyotes have been known to kill dogs left outside unattended. Other than the coyotes, this place is Awesome! The weather has been in the mid 80's, we came from 100's in central west Texas. We use Verizon, always had 1 to 2 bars of service. Steady breeze made it nice to sit under the awning. Quiet time is 10:00 pm till 9:00 am.

We can watch huge ships come to port and walk to the beach/jetty/pier. The sites are all huge concrete pads and spaced far apart. Downside: lots of burrs in the grass and coyotes live right behind the campground. They have apparently taken peoples dogs.

This is mostly a snowbird camp with a few left over for the rest.  Nice pool area, walking distance to the water(no beach).  Easy highway access to Rockport (nice city park beach) and the ferry access to Port Aransas.  Nice pads but the stickers in the back corner of the park were a problem for all of us, dog included.

They do their absolute best to make sure the area stays clean and although there are stickers in a few areas, they are constantly trying to get them under control. They send out texts and emails letting everyone know when they will be working so everyone is fully aware.
We have not had a chance to utilize the pool area yet but I’ve been told that it is a heated pool (no hot tub tho).
They also have 2 catch and release ponds and a dog run. The roads are wide and the spaces are ample. We had plenty of room to back in our 23ft, leave the truck parked in the front, and have room for the picnic table and fire pit behind it.

This place is centrally located near a lot of services and activities. There's lots of pavement, which is not a huge selling point, but the dust is greatly reduced as a result. There's a small swimming pool and a large laundry. Bathrooms and showers are very clean. Personnel are very accommodating. There's a mix of short and long term residents. There's a decent amount of walking within the park, but outside the park is not that great. I didn't feel terribly safe. There are dogs running around without humans present and some homeless in the local park. The car wash next door is a great value and I was able to get my truck with extra high canopy washed for cheap. All in all, I thought it was a good place to stay.

The price was right and I had water and electric hookups, but basically I was in a parking lot and all the grass around is full of briars. Made it really hard to walk the dog. Proximity to the beach was also really, if only the weather was a little better. The showers are a quarter pay situation and I paid $1.50 for a cold shower. When I went to ask the front office about it, they basically said "sometimes you have to run the sink for a minute". Sorry, but I am paying quarters for a shower that never gets warm that's a big dissapointment and then to met with indifference about it, hence the two stars. I also don't like that you don't get to pick your spot, you just show up, pay and they tell you where you are staying. It was the off season, so maybe things are better in full swing summer.
