Village Scene Park in Hatfield provides full hookup RV sites with both 50-amp electrical service and sewer connections for motorhomes year-round. This manufactured home community offers dedicated RV parking strips within a suburban neighborhood setting approximately 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia. "The first thing that you'll note is that Village Scene Park is located smack dab in the middle of an otherwise sprawling suburban area of the nearby metro Philly," one camper shared. Other nearby options include Spring Gulch Resort Campground in New Holland, open from March to December, and Little Red Barn Campground in Quakertown, which accommodates big rigs but has relatively narrow sites where RVs are positioned close together.

Advance reservations are necessary during peak travel seasons, particularly for weekend stays near Philadelphia. Most RV parks in the region provide 30/50 amp electrical hookups, water, and sewer connections, though dump station hours vary significantly. Several parks charge additional fees for cable TV connections and Wi-Fi service tends to be limited at many locations. Military Park Fort Dix Range 14 Camp in nearby Wrightstown, New Jersey remains open throughout the year with limited amenities but offers sanitary dump facilities. Pet policies are generally accommodating at most parks, though restrictions apply in certain common areas. During winter months, only a few campgrounds maintain full operations with Village Scene Park being one of the few year-round options in the immediate vicinity.

      Lowe's - W Windsor

Upscale Parking Paradise at This Home Fixer-Upper

Located just off US Route 1 in the upscale Princeton area, this spacious Lowe's serves up a surprisingly pleasant patch of pavement for weary road warriors looking to catch some shut-eye. Set back roughly 80 yards from the highway, this big blue home improvement retailer offers a generously sized parking lot with relatively manageable traffic, good maneuverability and a quieter atmosphere than you might expect from such a busy suburban retail corridor. The western and southern edges of the lot are particularly appealing for an overnight stay, and with Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several other retailers nearby, convenience certainly isn't in short supply. Better yet, the store management was friendly and accommodating when we called ahead to arrange our overnight visit.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spacious, paved parking lot with plenty of room to maneuver larger rigs; (2) Convenient access to US Route 1 and nearby I-95; (3) Western and southern parking areas offer quieter spots away from the busiest customer traffic; (4) Excellent nearby conveniences, including Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several dining options; and (5) Friendly store management that welcomed our overnight stay, plus surprisingly good opportunities for outdoor recreation nearby.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) Some daytime retail traffic and occasional road noise, although nothing terribly disruptive; (2) No RV hookups, dump station or dedicated overnight camping facilities; (3) Parking areas closest to the store can become crowded during business hours; (4) Limited greenery and little of the scenery you'd expect from a traditional campground; and (5) While the overnight experience was excellent, this is still a commercial parking lot rather than a destination for an extended stay.

      Happy Overnighting!

      Cheesequake State Park Campground

Park uses county cops to shut down park by 9pm.

On Friday, September 4, 2026, I rented a trailer and brought my family to Cheesequake State Park to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary over the extended Labor Day weekend. Around 9:20 PM—well before the park's designated 10:00 PM quiet hours—we were sitting inside our canopy, playing Jenga, and listening to low background music. Two officers from the Matawan Police Department approached our campsite. They were polite and courteous, simply offering a standard reminder to wrap things up by 10:00 PM. Before they could leave, however, a third, senior officer intervened. Wanting to"show them how it's done," he made the two polite officers return and stand by to watch as he demonstrated how to aggressively harass campers. Flashlight in hand, the senior officer approached with an immediate hostile attitude, treating us like criminals as he demanded to know who rented the site. He began reiterating rules and claimed we had too many vehicles. We had three cars, one belonging to my brother-in-law's girlfriend, who was visiting with her daughter. She had paid the$10 visitor fee at the main office and was instructed by staff to obtain the gate access code from us, the primary renters, if she got locked in. No staff member ever informed her of an 8:00 PM visitor departure deadline, leading us to reasonably assume visitors were permitted until quiet hours began at 10:00 PM. The officer rudely snapped that she had been given wrong information. The senior officer then used profanity in front of three small children, aggressively telling her to ("get her shit and get the fuck out!") in that manner or use profanity, the officer went from hostile to furious. He angrily declared that these were official violations and threatened that he could be issuing us tickets instead. Desperately searching for anything and everything to throw at us, he demanded that we turn off our idling car—which was supplying power to our campsite—and instructed us to make sure the campfire was doused before shutting down for the night. He then proceeded to shine his flashlight into our private setup—including our canopy, tents, and the inside of our trailer—searching for any other possible violation while the two polite officers were forced to watch. What was supposed to be a special 10th wedding anniversary celebration with my family was completely ruined by a senior officer misusing his authority to put on an unnecessary display of intimidation. Worse than just ruining our night, he spent that evening teaching those two police officers how to be bad cops. He corrupted two officers in real time, demonstrating firsthand exactly why most people have lost faith in the police force. The next day we was ready for them. We turned off our lights and  quietly by the fire while they went next door to harass an asian family that had just set up camp and had their leds lights on.

      Tohickon Family Campground

      Simple, peaceful FHU

We stayed just a couple nights here on our way north. The camp host was helpful before our stay and during check-in. Our site was pretty isolated from the others, so it was very quiet (no complaints here). There is a decent mix of sunny sites by the river and shady sites under the trees. The weather was perfect mid September. There wasn't anything spectacular for me, but it was a good experience and it was a nice taste of fall PA scenery. Beware that the roads are tight for a big rig. Side note, it did seem like most campers lived there.

      Beautiful campground, loud campers

Beautiful campground but made the mistake of going on a holiday weekend, the campgrounds next to us were screaming and blasting music all day and throughout the night so we ended up leaving early. A beautiful campground when there aren’t noisy capers ruining it.

      Tohickon Valley County Park

      First time camping

As far as experience it was good. The main issue was the campsite where we were was uneven and caused many of the sleeping arrangements that we had to be not level. This seems to be a specific issue to the group campsite number two as when we went inwards it seemed like everything else was much better.

The area sits on rolling terrain at approximately 300 feet elevation in Montgomery County, with summers averaging 85°F and winters dropping to around 20°F. Campgrounds in this region typically operate from April through November, though several maintain year-round operations for travelers needing overnight accommodations.

    What to do

Local history exploration: Within 10 minutes of Village Scene Park, visitors can explore the Morgan Log House which "has some nice historical significance and is super close to VSP." The area offers multiple day-trip options for history enthusiasts.

Water recreation: For campers seeking outdoor activities, Green Lane Park features "several well marked trails for hiking" and fishing opportunities. One camper noted the park has "a small campground" with "large sites" though limited privacy between camping spots.

Family entertainment: When weather prevents outdoor activities, the Amazing Escape Room is "just due east of here by 5 minutes" from Village Scene Park. This provides an alternative activity option, especially on rainy days when children need entertainment.

Local cuisine sampling: The region offers diverse dining options near campgrounds. A visitor to Village Scene Park recommended: "If you've somehow run out of things to make for that next meal, fret not and hop on over to downtown Hatfield, where I'd recommend checking out Mom's Real Italian, Philomena Santucci's Square Pizza or Doyle's for some great locally Philly grub."

    What campers like

Quiet camping locations: Despite suburban settings, many rv parks near Horsham provide surprisingly peaceful environments. One camper at Village Scene Park noted you'll appreciate "that the place is incredibly quiet and far enough away from busy traffic" despite being in a suburban area.

Clean facilities: Campgrounds maintain well-kept amenities that enhance visitor comfort. At Little Red Barn Campground, one visitor appreciated that "primitive sites are very private, friendly staff, clean grounds" though noted the "only one bathroom and it's very far from the primitive sites."

Convenient location: The proximity to Philadelphia while avoiding city congestion makes these campgrounds practical base camps. A Village Scene Park visitor stated: "VSP's location is great for those wanting to access some of the bigger, better things in Philly proper, without having to actually stay in the city."

Regional transportation access: Public transit connections simplify city visits from camping areas. One reviewer highlighted that "Nearby there's a SEPTA Doylestown/Landsdale regional rail line stop that will pretty much give you all of the direct access to the city without having to bother with driving through any of the traffic to enjoy Philly."

    What you should know

Site characteristics: Campgrounds in this region vary significantly in site privacy and spacing. At Robin Hill Campground, a visitor observed "Sites are swampy if they've had rain! Took us over two hours to disconnect because of mushy, muddy site!" while noting "Personnel were very nice and considerate but area needs over haul and cleanup!"

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds close during winter months, operating from April through November. Spring Gulch Resort Campground functions seasonally from "March 21 - December 1," requiring advance planning for cold weather camping.

Reservation requirements: Due to limited availability, booking ahead proves essential during peak seasons. Weekend stays particularly require advance planning as regional campgrounds fill quickly with Philadelphia-area visitors.

Hookup variations: Confirm specific utilities before booking as offerings differ between parks. A camper at Pine Hill RV Park noted "The campsites are nice, the park is clean, and convenient to I-78... Roads and campsites are gravel and very easy for RVs of any size to navigate the roads and sites."

    Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Look for campgrounds with recreational facilities suitable for children. At Spring Gulch Resort Campground, one visitor found "lots of activities for kids and adults" and another mentioned "lots of sports gear available for free to use within park, has to be returned by 5 when main office closes."

Swimming amenities: Pools provide welcome relief during hot summer months. A Spring Gulch Resort visitor noted "Heated spa/pool in upper area are a bonus" though cautioned about limited staffing as "not enough staffing to keep amenities like pool open after 5 during the week."

Playground access: Children benefit from designated play areas at many regional campgrounds. At Lake-In-Wood Campground, a visitor found "Huge pond for fishing, miniature golf, nice indoor and outdoor pool and a kiddie pool. Goats to pet and watch. Nice playground for the kids and a small arcade."

Cabin options: Alternative accommodations offer camping experiences without equipment requirements. A visitor observed Lake-In-Wood has "a lot of really neat and different rentals here like a tree house, double decker bus, among others."

    Tips from RVers

Hookup specifications: Many parks offer full-service connections with varying amp ratings. At Village Scene Park, "Amenities include: 30/50 electrical amp on all sites, private mailboxes, public water and sewer hook-ups" along with additional services available for purchase.

Site leveling considerations: Some campgrounds require additional effort for level placement. A visitor to Pine Hill RV Park found "Our site was level and nicely graded" though noted tree sap could be problematic as "the only problem with the trees was the pine sap everywhere that we stuck to our shoes."

Dump station access: Hours vary significantly between locations, requiring schedule planning. At Village Scene Park, "there's a $20 flat dump fee, opened 9-4pm M-F, but closed on the weekends."

Site spacing: Many rv parks in Horsham area position units close together. A camper at Sun Valley Campground spent "the month of June 2021 at the campground. Full most of the time but, clean and beautiful. Never any loud noise even on the weekends."
