Lake Towhee County Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Bucks County's Lake Towhee County Park holds a 13-site campground set within a deciduous forest, where gravel roads and back-in sites define the layout. Sites vary in how well-defined they are, but the outer loop positions tend to offer more spacing and tree cover. No electrical hookups are available, and the posted RV length limit is 25 feet.

Crowd levels have consistently run low. Visitors have arrived on holiday weekends to find only a handful of sites occupied, and mid-week stays tend to be emptier still. Cell service is available, and the restrooms, while dated, are functional. Showers are on-site, though their condition draws mixed impressions. The lake sits separate from the campground loop, with no formal access trail, though a rough path from site 13 leads toward the water. Algae blooms have been noted on the lake during warmer months, and a boat ramp exists on the day-use side of the park.

Nockamixon State Park Cabins is nearby for those who want a larger park experience, and Little Red Barn Campground provides a hookup-equipped alternative in the same corridor. As Emily G. notes, the campground is "very secluded and set back in the woods." Reservations are accepted, the season runs March through October, and the campground is a reasonable fit for campers who want a low-traffic, no-frills base in Bucks County.

Many campers appreciated the large, private sites nestled in a quiet woodland setting with basic amenities. Some visitors noted the facilities feel dated and the campground seems underutilized, but most found it ideal for a peaceful, no-frills camping experience.

Basic camping in a county park

Small (13-site) Bucks County Pennsylvania campground. The entrance and loop road, along with the campsites are all gravel. Some sites appeared to be more defined than others. Each site had a picnic table, fire ring, and garbage can. No hookups.

The restrooms were dated and passable; I did not use the shower.

The lake is separate from the campground and there did not appear to be defined access from the campground to the lake, although there was a sort of path from site 13 that I followed as far as I could. While I could see the lake from this path, there did not seem to be any way to get into the lake (and there was a lot of algae and water lilies). We checked out the lake the next day. There is a (dirt) boat ramp but there was a red flag warning, and the lake had a lot of algae bloom.

This campground did not appear to be a very popular one; on the Thursday before Memorial Day, only two sites were occupied, and I only saw a few reservation tags for the upcoming holiday weekend. It felt a bit neglected, but it was very quiet. If you are looking for a small, uncrowded campground with no amenities, this would be a good choice, but we were just passing through.

Great place for tent camping

Great place to camp if it’s your first time, clean restrooms, nice sites, showers, and cellphone service. Garbage bins are available but bring additional bags it really helps.

Don’t forget the firewood!
