      Salt Fork State Park Campground

The right side of the fork

Dog park!! and right on the lake!! Found this by mistake on our way out, and the dogs loved it. Access to lake, a beach, well fenced. I would give Salt Fork SP extra stars for this one, especially if there were campsites co-located.

Camp ground is easily accessible being just 6 miles from I70, leaving the convenience of Cambridge and city amenities close by while allowing for great trails and solitude. Stayed in campground A, and the front end has little shade, but being here in autumn was perfect for lots of sunshine on site. Sites with trees for tree tents is minimal. Drinking fountains are dispersed fairly frequently throughout campground, but RV hookups with water were limited during my stay. Shower houses and comfort houses all have flushers and sinks.

TICK WARNING!!!! After a morning hike down wooded Trail, we spent A LONG TIME pulling ticks from dogs...even though the temps were in the 30's overnight and everyone was treated with flea & tick protection.

      Salt Fork State Park Campground

      My Go-to Weekend Getaway

Saltfork is located about 45 minutes from my house, and makes for the perfect overnight trip.

There are tons of things to do, and lots of space in which to do them. My favorites includes hiking trails, and the lakeside dog park.

I stay in the primitive camping, it allows for more privacy and quiet. Although it also means you are relegated to the pit toilets. I personally don't mind them, but I know some campers will make the drive to the nicer shower house in the RV heavy side of the park.

Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, the fire rings in the primitive section need some work, as the grates are very old and small.

      Berkshire Campgrounds

      Awesome for pet owners!

This place is huge, tons of paths for walking and exploring. Also features mini golf, volleyball, basketball, an in-ground pool and a pond. Our favorite part was the off leash dog trails that were a perfect place to let the pup run. We have struggled at some parks where the pet areas are very restrictive. Will be back next summer!

      Mt Gilead State Park Campground

      Tiny and close

This campground wasn’t level and the spots are so tiny I should have stayed at the KOA across the street for larger spots. That’s how small these are here. Our spot is on an incline. Full hookups are nice but dog poop galore. The pet owners here (not all of them) just let there dogs go anywhere and leave it. Sad. The camp store is nice and the staff is friendly. Restrooms are clean too.

      Berkshire Campgrounds

      Incorrect pricing

The price advertised on The Dyrt is incorrect. It is not $38.50/day. We paid $50.29 with full hook ups. Very clean, staff very nice, but guests are not allowed without registering at the office. Many seasonal/full time residents which made for quite a bit of early morning traffic. Beautiful fishing pond with well groomed trails. Dogs are allowed off leash on the trails. Staff very pet friendly and courteous. Well appointed camp store. Water pressure excellent. Electric well within standard. Gravel pads, our site was off 2”.

      Butler-Mohican KOA

Rustic, quiet, beautiful in the Fall

This campground had some rough edges last time I visited (5 years ago). There was a pool and water slide but it was closed in octover when we visited. There are basic restrooms/showers but the water pressure was not so good. There were cabins and sites for tents and campers. My kids liked the playground and pet goats the best. There is a lake for fishing but mosquitos were BAD on our visit. Close to the beautiful Mohican State Park

    Guide to Glenmont

Camping areas near Glenmont, Ohio sit at elevations between 900-1,100 feet in Ohio's Amish Country region. The area features rolling hills with dense mixed hardwood forests surrounding the Mohican River valley. Sites in this region typically offer a mix of wooded and open terrain with seasonal temperature variations ranging from summer highs in the 80s to winter lows below freezing.

    What to do

River activities on the Mohican: Kayaking, canoeing and tubing opportunities abound on the Mohican River. According to a visitor at Mohican Wilderness, "We go every year and do the 20 mile kayaking trip, such a nice little spot along the river & the best way to kick off summer!"

Hiking trails and nature exploration: Multiple hiking trails wind through the area's forests. At Mohican State Park Campground, one camper notes, "The hiking trails are great with a covered bridge, overlook and waterfalls. The sites are nice and large with lots of trees throughout the park."

Horseback riding and shooting sports: Some campgrounds offer activities beyond standard camping. A camper at Mohican Wilderness explains the campground has "horse back riding, shooting sports, canoeing, playground, swimming lake, putt putt and more. They also have little shops that allows visitors to watch loom and black smith demonstrations."

Winter camping options: For those interested in off-season camping, Mohican State Park remains open. A camper reports, "Camping in the off season is our favorite time of year. This particular park has potable water on by the dump station and the dump station is open. The water at the full hook up sites are turned off."

    What campers like

Spacious riverfront sites: Campers consistently mention the generous site sizes. A visitor at Mohican Adventures Campground notes, "We tent camped and had a private spot in the woods which we loved. The campgrounds covers all the basics. We fished and swam in the indoor pool which was not heated at the time."

Well-maintained facilities: Cleanliness is frequently mentioned across campgrounds. At Pleasant Hill Lake Park Campground, a camper reports, "The shower houses are clean as well as the grounds. The lake was high this weekend and the beach was a bit under water, but still fun."

Pet-friendly primitive camping options: For those seeking a more rustic experience with dogs, free backcountry sites are available. According to one camper at Mohican State Park, "There are 10 free camp sites for backpackers in Mohican, each is about a mile hike in, no vehicles can reach these sites. There are 4 on the mountain bike trail and 6 on the horse trails, first come first serve."

Indoor amenities for weather flexibility: Some campgrounds offer indoor options for rainy days. At Mohican Adventures, a reviewer mentions their amenities include "an indoor pool perfect for the super hot summer months. So much for the kids to do!"

    What you should know

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies widely by location and carrier. A reviewer at Mohican State Park notes, "No cell service with Verizon at this park." Another visitor at Toodik Family Campground points out they "went for Labor Day. They had a band on Saturday Night, a DJ on Sunday. That is all u could hear thru the park."

Registration procedures for primitive sites: For the free backcountry sites, proper registration is required. A camper explains, "Make sure you get a reservation at the kiosk by the ranger station in the forest. Do not go to the state park as that is completely different. Do not camp illegally or without a reservation."

GPS navigation challenges: Some campgrounds can be difficult to find using standard navigation. One RVer notes, "Getting here proved to be tricky, as it seems all of the GPS apps and my Garmin routed us on a county road that is not fit for RVs of any type. To find this place, search for 1 Wally Bridge, Loudonville, OH."

Seasonal considerations: Water access may change depending on when you visit. A camper at Toodik reports, "We have not had a lot of rain lately in Ohio so the river is low and not much to look at. Not the campgrounds fault at all!"

    Tips for camping with families

Activity-focused campgrounds for children: Certain campgrounds specialize in family entertainment. At Whispering Hills Campground, a visitor describes "amazing staff, soooo much for Kids and adults to do, nice pool, Kids activity Schedule 9-9 almost daily."

Pet-friendly campgrounds with amenities: For families camping with pets near Glenmont, many options accommodate dogs. A camper at Whispering Hills Jellystone mentions, "Whispering Hills Jellystone is a great location for family fun. I can not say enough about how accommodating and helpful the staff was during our visits. There is plenty of activities for families and the dog park was a bonus."

Water activities for children: Families appreciate the water-based recreation options. A Pleasant Hill visitor explains, "The bike/walking paths for kids/adults is a great addition for campers with young kids. The lake was high this weekend and the beach was a bit under water, but still fun. The boats and sounds of summer with children laughing and splashing while adults sit on the sand."

Off-peak considerations: Some families prefer camping outside peak times. A camper at Mohican Adventures Campground notes, "We camped here off season and had the place to ourselves. We had a pull through site which was gravel. The staff is friendly and the indoor pool and shower houses were amazing."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection and layout: For RVers seeking pet friendly camping near Glenmont, pay attention to site specifics. At Wally World, a camper notes, "The campground itself is nestled in the bend of the Mohican river, so most sites have a river view even if you aren't on a Riverside site. Only downside is most of the sites don't have a sewer hookup."

Weight restrictions on access roads: Some campgrounds have bridges with weight limitations. One RVer warns, "Do note the bridge you need to cross has a weight limit of 10 tons, so larger rigs will need to come up Wally Road from the south. If your GPS says to take ANY township roads, just don't."

Hookup availability: Utilities vary widely between campgrounds and sections. At Pleasant Hill, a camper reports, "We stayed 2 nights on site 304 which was electric only by choice and when we return we will opt for full hook up since those sites look brand new."

Site spacing considerations: Some campgrounds offer more separation than others. An RVer at Mohican Wilderness explains, "We have camped here 3 times now and even though it's a large park the sites are huge so you still feel like you can kick back and relax. Quiet neighbors and friendly staff plus everything is mowed and well maintained."
