American Wilderness Campground and Willow Lake Park accept pets across all accommodation options including tents, RVs, and cabins. Both campgrounds maintain well-kept grounds with dedicated pet areas and clearly marked waste disposal stations. American Wilderness features a swimming lake where some pet owners allow supervised dogs to cool off in designated areas away from the main beach. Willow Lake Park has spacious sites with room for pets to relax on-leash, though the campground primarily consists of seasonal campers with only a small section for short-term stays. Local campgrounds are searchable through The Dyrt's listings.

Hiking with dogs remains popular at nearby trails connecting to these pet-friendly campgrounds. Leashed pets must stay under control at all times, especially during evening quiet hours when barking can disturb neighboring campsites. Most campgrounds enforce standard pet policies including proof of current vaccinations, immediate waste cleanup, and keeping pets attended. The bathroom facilities at both locations are regularly maintained, though Willow Lake's bathrooms have been noted as dated with shower facilities that may need improvements. During summer months, the swimming areas provide relief from heat for both campers and their pets in designated zones, with American Wilderness offering a separate fishing lake and swimming area.

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

      Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

      Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

    Guide to Brunswick

Brunswick's camping areas benefit from northeast Ohio's moderate summer climate, with average highs around 80°F from June through August and cooler nights in the 60s. The terrain features a mix of wooded areas and open fields, with some campgrounds situated near small lakes or ponds that offer recreational opportunities. Campers should prepare for occasional summer thunderstorms that can create muddy conditions at sites without proper drainage.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds offer fishing in stocked ponds or lakes. At American Wilderness Campground, visitors praise the fishing amenities. "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining," notes Jessica J. The campground maintains both a fishing lake and a separate swimming area.

Hiking nearby trails: The wooded areas surrounding Brunswick provide hiking options with varied difficulty levels. The Heritage Farms campground connects to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, making it ideal for cyclists and hikers. One reviewer mentioned, "Located about ½ mile off the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, this campground is a part of a 5th generation working farm."

Swimming areas: Many local campgrounds maintain swimming facilities for cooling off during summer months. Maple Lakes Campground features a pool with scenic views. As one camper described, "The pool was so nice it wasn't too crowded and the view over looking the 'lake' was so pretty."

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Visitors consistently mention well-maintained bathroom facilities as a priority. At Willow Lake Park, a recent reviewer noted, "The facilities were clean and staff members were respectful and friendly, really the whole park was." Another mentioned, "Bathroom house was clean but dated."

Weekend entertainment: Several campgrounds offer scheduled activities for guests. Willow Lake Park provides regular weekend entertainment according to one review: "They offer plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine."

Peaceful settings: The natural environment around Brunswick campgrounds creates quiet retreats. At Sunset Lake Campground, a visitor commented, "This is a very quiet and relaxing campground. The grounds are clean and the sites are very well spaced." Another noted the "friendly and quiet" atmosphere.

    What you should know

Seasonal occupancy: Many campgrounds near Brunswick have limited availability for short-term stays due to seasonal campers. At Willow Lake Park, one camper observed, "90% of the place is filled with seasonally permanent campers. There's a small section where they cater to short-timers."

Water quality varies: Some campgrounds have water issues to consider. A reviewer at Willow Lake Park noted, "I'm not sure what's up with the water, but it smells like metal and you're probably better off bringing your own drinking water." Similar concerns were mentioned at other locations.

Availability challenges: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially on weekends and holidays. A visitor to Findley State Park Campground mentioned, "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

    Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated play areas: Campgrounds with playgrounds provide entertainment for children. Silver Springs Campground features "a fantastic dog park with a swimming beach for dogs only," making it appealing for families with pets. A reviewer noted that it has "lots of green area to play a game."

Choose campgrounds with organized activities: Some locations offer scheduled events for families. American Wilderness Campground provides various activities as described by one camper: "We had a nice fire roasting s'mores the atmosphere is so clean and nice we had a easy check in and we got to enter a chili cook off."

Consider sites with adequate space: Family camping requires room for multiple tents or activities. According to a visitor at Heritage Farms, "Sites are spread apart nicely. Each one has a picnic table and fire ring. Grassy spots that are fairly level and mowed. Came with firewood and a little kindling too."

    Tips from RVers

Level site importance: RVers consistently mention the importance of level parking. At Silver Springs Campground, a reviewer warned, "Many unlevel sites. Only 3-30 amp hooks ups, the rest are 20 amp."

Check hookup availability: Not all campgrounds offer full services for RVs. Regarding Willow Lake Park, one camper clarified, "No full hookups as indicated on some search sites," which is critical information for RV planning.

Verify site size before booking: Ensure your rig will fit comfortably. At American Wilderness, one camper advised, "We stayed in the primitive area and it was just ok. Only a port o potty was available in that area but you could walk to a different area for restrooms and showers. I think if you paid for a seasonal site, your experience would be much better."
