Place used to be amazing....

I grew up camping in this park. The area is beautiful and the water is amazing. Unless you're into festival life this may not be the family campground for you.

Something for everyone! Amazing Campgrounds

Very large campgrounds with a large number of sites! If you're looking to stay off the grid, I stayed in M62, the woods directly behind me, no cell service. From what I've see, section JJ has the best cell service, sections N, P, and O overlook or are near overlooking the quarry, H is nearest to the beach AA is nearest the entrance/exit, A is for ADA. And all the fellow campers I encountered were very courteous and kind!

The Quarry

I think the above description written by Katie was a very authentic and eloquent way to describe the ledges quarry park separated from the actual state park. To me the ledges quarry is heaven on earth, anyone is family and all are welcome.. ✌✌also they hold AA meetings there on tues at 6p. 😊

State Park is Different from Nearby Nelson’s Ledges Quarry Park

To camp here you must camp at the nearby Nelson’s Ledges Quarry Park, not the State Park itself.

The State Park is very cool, various levels of short trails that are well marked to get through the natural ledges, caves, and water features.

The campground will not be for everyone. There is a large “Hippie Culture” to the campground, if you are not free spirited and open minded you may be uncomfortable camping here, especially on Festival Weekends. There are lots of lights, decorations, music, and people activity throughout the night. The restrooms are porta-potties or pits (neither stay clean for long). The people working there are relaxed, but care about the community and environment fiercely (do not litter, speed, etc here).

Some sections of the campground are nicer than others, but there are so many options for campsites you can probably find one you like. But there are no picnic tables provided and the ground is only dirt. Recycling is easily accessed though!

Many trees for hammocks and it is mostly all flat for placing your tent.

Additionally, the Quarry is beautiful and fun to fish, swim, “cliff jump”, and relax! There is a small “town” at the campground where food and souvenirs can be purchased.

Overall, if you are okay a diverse crowd that is hippie centered this is a campground for you to explore and enjoy!

Neat “Cliff Jumping” Location

Many of my friends from Ohio recommended checking out Nelson Ledges for apparent “cliff jumping” and a music festival. Overall the site is gorgeous with cliffs, a large lake, an island, beaches, pavilions, and decent travel roads. The cliffs aren’t that high and partially man made with cement pebbles. The rock-face was kind of painful to sit on due to its artificial nature. The location was cool, but felt very regulated and sterile. A lot of the rocks are man made with cement. There are also tons of signs up saying “no cliff jumping”, so it was kind of odd that it is known as a cliff jumping location. Definitely a pretty location with some decent amenities for campers!

Great little family hike

We chose to hike here on a day where there might be rain...turned out to be the perfect decision as we killed 3 hrs just walking around mostly covered trails. Only one steep hill to climb and it wasn’t bad at all. The views and rock formations were pretty amazing! We will certainly be back for this half day adventure.
