"Tent sites are very private with some dirt roads to exit out but that's what make it unique experience! Short 5 minute drive to nearby supermarket to pick up food or firewood... and a private beach which is opened from Wednesday to the weekend with life guards on duty," reports Anil S. about Croton Point Park.
City day trips: Many campers use these locations as bases for exploring nearby attractions. "We spent July 4th weekend here this year. What I loved about the site... There were clean, it was very quiet, and there were a lot of nice hikes directly from the campground," shares Sammi A. The park's proximity to New York City makes it convenient for urban excursions.

Historical locations: The region contains significant historical sites within driving distance of campgrounds. "We came in October to celebrate Halloween in sleepy hollow! This is a great campsite and reasonably priced. Was close to bear mountains state part and the train station is right there!" writes Wendy C.
Wildlife viewing: Beaver Pond Campground — Harriman State Park provides opportunities to observe local wildlife. "About 30 minutes from sleepy hollow and tarrytown NY and only an hour to central park!! Deer running everywhere and surprisingly beautiful and quaint. Free Hot showers in the bathrooms, with plenty of room to change," shares Megan B.
Seasonal activities: Fall camping offers unique experiences with changing foliage. "When you are camping with a large group of friends and don't all have access to a car, this is the perfect spot. MetroNorth takes you right into Cold Spring, a charming, quaint town with antique shops and beautiful views of the Hudson. Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds require advance bookings, especially for summer and fall weekends. Jonathan C. reports, "Nice site and a 30-40 minute drive from Western Queens. Tent site is after the RV site, so use their LX before you get to site if you can. Dumpster and water near sites. We stayed in site 9."
Wildlife precautions: Bear activity exists in some camping areas. "Keep your food in the dry bag and away from the tent or benches provided or face the packs of fearless racoons at night," warns Anil S. when describing nighttime wildlife encounters at Croton Point Park.
Site variations: Skyline RV Camp - Non-Waterfront has undergone location changes affecting views and amenities. "Be advised that Skyline RV Camp has moved to: 50 Noble St, Brooklyn, NY 11222. The original property location at 2 Oak St was sold and is now private property. There no longer is a waterfront view of the NYC skyline when camping at Skyline RV," alerts John T.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Black Bear RV Park and other facilities offer recreational areas for children. "Sites very close to one another. Close to ferry for downtown and Statue of Liberty. People are very nice and accommodating. More of a stopping place to see the sites," Missy S. notes about regional options.
Farm experiences: Unique camping options include sites on working farms. At Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort, "Lots to occupy the kids. Playground, hayride, animals to feed (goats, chickens, donkey and pony). There were some organized activities which was nice," according to Janelle G.
Swimming areas: Family-friendly swimming locations typically operate from late May through early September. "The park has a nice open beach on Canopus Lake with a concession area and bathhouse, which we found to be quite clean! They even have boat rentals - or you can bring your own boat to launch!" shares Shelly B.

"We recently had the pleasure of staying at Mountain Top and were impressed by the exceptional experience and service provided by the owners. The newly upgraded camp infrastructure elevated the stay, providing amenities for comfort and entertainment," notes Jason G. about Mountain Top RV Park.
Navigation challenges: Several RV parks have specific directional requirements or access issues. "Very plain & functional, no frills but right on the harbor & on the very edge of Jersey City, close to a ferry & the train that takes u across to New York City. Shopping & restraunts are right next door. We brought scooters & had a great stay!" shares Emily L.
Winter RV options: Limited winter RV camping exists, with specific winterization considerations. "Bathrooms for our area looks well kept outside, but closed due to covid. Other campgrounds have just stepped up the cleaning and remained open for convenience of the campers," reports Harold C. describing off-season facilities.
