      Elbow Pond Road Dispersed Site

Lovely Area Access Road Is A Speedway

We arrived on a Wednesday in early October with intentions of enjoying the foliage, which we did.  We found the campsites easily and the access road is in good condition so the local speed through all day long.

I am not sure how many sites there are, we took the first one we would fit into.  We travel with a Lance camper mounted on a Silverado.

My travel companions are cats and they are accustomed to the typical noises of RV life; truck stops, rest stops, neighboring campers and the occasional disrespectful loud jerks.  At this spot we were serenaded by gun fire.  I served in the military and grew up on a farm; guns don’t bother me in the least.  I think of range fire as the sound of freedom, however, this started at dawn and did not stop until after the sun went down.  The gunfire was so loud and consistent that the cats got spooked and took to hiding inside the camper.

We were going to stay for the weekend but left after our second night.

Not a bad spot (there is a small stream across the access road, not deep enough for true swimming but good enough for paddling around), surrounded by beautiful woods and no true neighbors, but between the never ending line of fast moving cars and the gun fire we decided to leave.

      Crow's Nest Campground

      Around The Fire

First time camping in this area and we really liked it. The pool kept the kids busy and we spent the evenings around the fire.

      Crow's Nest Campground

      Our Favorite Part

The Sugar River was our favorite part. We spent a good amount of time down by the water and the kids loved cooling off there.

      Maple Haven Campground

      Great Campground

Quiet campground experience. Very cheerful staff member. Ice Cream shop is a bonus. We found a secluded spot without reservations. Monday evening. Some sites are tight for larger RVs but our Class B Camper Van fit fine.

      Chocorua KOA

      Great campground and stay

Park is nestled in the woods with a lot of activities outdoors. Walking trails for people and dogs. Great laundry, bathrooms, office/store, cafe. The roads into the sites are tight but they guide you. We have a 30’ trailer and 20’ truck, I wouldn’t bring a trailer longer than 35’ in unless you are really good in tight spaces. Site 110 is a great pull thru.

      Covered Bridge

      Spacious, Clean, and Beautiful

Large sites, clean pit toilets, in a beautiful, wooded campground adjacent to the Swift River.

Camp host, who’s been there for many years, keeps things clean, organized, and quiet.

Most sites can handle multiple big tents. Plenty of toilet houses and dumpsters available.

The great boulder loop trail is right there. It’s a very short walk to the trail head and it has gorgeous views of the swift river valley with much lower crowds than the major peaks in the whites.

Grab a drink and your chairs and take a short walk on one of the paths to the swift river and hang out a while.

      Country Bumpkins Campground and Cabins

      Owner/operator is terrible

We showed up early (10:50 am) and asked to check in prior to the 12 pm check-in time. The owner was working and she told us we could not. I walked over and saw that our site was empty, so my wife asked the owner again if we could check in early as there was nobody there and we had two 16-mo babies who were ready to get out of the car. She then kicked us off the property. This was on a festival weekend with nowhere else to stay, and I told her that. The owner did not care and we had to drive 2 ours home.

      Great Meadow Campground

      Great seasonal campground

This is our 2nd year as seasonal campers and it is wonderful. The seasons sites are very spacious and most have plenty of shade/sun. The transient site are not as spacious but have grassy areas and plenty of sun. There are no tent sites at this time

    What to do

"Has an aerial obstacle course and a mountain coaster, places to swim, music festivals, hiking, etc.," writes Kasey H., highlighting the diverse activities available.

Kayaking at Clearwater Campground: Affordable kayak rentals make exploring the lake accessible for all skill levels. Brandon C. noted, "Kayak rental was super cheap and easy to do! The lake beach was fantastic, very nicely maintained."

Hiking from Wolf Swamp: This unique campground offers quick access to several hiking trails. According to Tim S., there are "great hiking trails nearby" though he warns that "it can get very buggy so make sure you bring bug spray."

    What campers like

Privacy at Gunstock Campground: Many sites offer seclusion in wooded settings. Melissa B. advises, "I recommend the sites back in Breezy Knolls (K01-K17 I think?) and then I believe sites 203 and 205 were nice and tucked away in the trees as well."

Clean facilities at Meredith Woods Four Season Camping: The campground maintains high standards year-round. Mara S. observed during winter, "Squeaky clean - and that's not always easy especially in the winter when everyone drags snow, slush and mud into the bathroom. Thank you for sticking to such high standards."

Lake views at Sandy Beach Campground: Sites near the water provide scenic settings. Robert M. describes it as having "plenty of room to relax out in the sun as well as launch areas to set out in a paddle boat, canoe or row boat, all available on site."

    What you should know

Site selection at Clearwater Campground: Sites vary in size and levelness. Paummi S. observed, "It was very crowded and the sites are close together and there were a lot of mosquitoes. However, every one was very considerate, the bathrooms and showers were clean and wonderful as were the laundry facilities and game room."

Campground policies vary significantly: Some campgrounds like Silver Lakes Park prohibit pets entirely, while others allow them with restrictions. Visitor fees may apply at some locations - Andrew P. noted at Meredith Woods, "My brother in law came to pick up clothes for his kids from us and we had to pay $8.00 for him to be in the camp for 45 min."

Winter camping limitations: Most campgrounds close after Columbus Day, with Paugus Bay Campground being a notable exception remaining open year-round. Winter sites often have limited amenities and require additional preparation.

    Tips for camping with families

Indoor activities at Paugus Bay Campground: The campground offers alternatives for rainy days. Michelle B. recommends, "Nice size beach and pavillion, playground located at the top of the hill as well as shuffleboard."

Child-friendly sites at Granite State Campground: The campground design accommodates young campers. Andrew P. shared, "Boys rode around on bikes, facilities were clean, the owners have been working hard to improve this camp. I will definitely go again."

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature playgrounds, though families should note their location relative to campsites. At Adventure Bound Campground (formerly Jellystone), Karen observed, "My kids loved it - but mostly because there were no real strict rules and they had a blast."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Several campgrounds feature uneven terrain requiring preparation. Chase B. warns about Paugus Bay, "Sites are EXTREMELY tight. If you have a pull behind, you definitely need to be comfortable backing it up in tight, dicey situations."

Winter RV accommodations at Silver Lakes Park Campground: This campground maintains reliable services during cold months. Kirsten J. notes it's "a very clean, quiet, gated campground, with easy beach access for the kids (and launching space for pontoon or bass boats)."

Hookup availability: Most of the best places to camp near Franklin offer water and electric hookups, but sewer connections are less common. Some campgrounds like Paugus Bay provide honey wagon service for an additional fee instead of full hookups.
