  Louisburg Middle Creek State Fishing Lake

  Peaceful near KC

  I car camped here for one night early this spring and will definitely come here again. There was a big RV parked next to me, some other car campers, and then a group of tent campers. The sites are right on the lake and the vault toilet was clean. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring and they are spaced out nicely. There was a decent amount of traffic to and from the floating boat dock but it still wasn’t too noisy.

  Sunflower Campground — Hillsdale State Park

  Very Clean and Very Relaxing

  The Park: We love this park, it’s massive, and really pretty. They have so much to do (listed below). Sunflower Loop is our favorite and has full hookups. There are more primitive loops as well. It is ADA accessible. There was not a tornado shelter as of 2018. This is one thing that should be mandatory given its proximity and being further away from potential shelter. Excellent camping on the lake. Lots of water activities available.

  Sites: level, clear, easily accessible. Sunflower loop is widely spaced and plenty of room for larger RVs.

  Cellular: decent cellular signal.

  Montrose Missouri Conservation Area Dispersed Camping

  Enjoyed Our Stay

  Large grass area available for tents or campers. No specific camp locations. No fire rings or picnic tables. Pit toilets are as expected.

  Shallow muddy water but it does attract wildlife. A bit of road noise but tolerable. Perfect for our one night stay.

  Beautiful and quiet

  This campsite is beautiful. Loop B is much quieter with fewer guests. Loop A is a little more busy. Loop A: 2 smaller loops of campsites. A17,18,19 are very close to a little walkway that goes down to the lake. These spots are very hot and sunny in the morning, but shaded in the afternoon. Loop A has 1 set of nonflushable toilets that were surprisingly clean. Loop B: this is where the shower house and flushable toilets are. Showers were clean and water was hot. Showers had good water pressure. Loop B also has the playground which is right behind site B47. It’s a newer playground and all equipment was nicely maintained. There are no swings. Only complaint is that there are no benches or picnic tables at the playground so bring your camping chair if you plan to stay awhile. Further past Loop B the road turns to gravel and there is a parking lot with a walkway to the lake. This offers some small bluffs with deep water for jumping off. If you walk further around the corner to the right, it turns into a nicer “beach” style area with few rocks, although the mud can be a little thick after it rains. When we were here (July) the lake was pretty muddy but I’m not sure if it’s always that way or not. It was also pretty low, but still had plenty of fun and kayaked through all the little coves.

  Blue Springs Lake Campground

  Nice County Campground

  Both RV Life Trip Wizard navigation and GPS took us to Campground Rd where there were signs to the camping area. The check in area at this county campground (CG) was a little tight but doable with our 40’ 5th wheel and F450 truck. We proceeded to back-in site 29 with FHUs. The road area was wide, so we had no issues backing into the site. The utilities were place middle-back on the site and we had no problems reaching. The site slopes to the passenger side and down hill to the road, so we used a few levelers. Space between sites varies within the CG. Our site was very close to 30 but we were on the end with a nice yard. Water pressure was decent. There’s no Wifi in the CG. We got 3 bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile. There are mature trees here, but most sites except a few north perimeter would have a shot for satellite. The bathhouse was newer and in good condition plus there’s a laundry in one of the restroom buildings. This CG is a good option as it's just east of Kansas City. The utilities were located mid-to-rear on the site, and we had no trouble reaching them. The site slopes to the passenger side and downhill toward the road, so we used a few levelers. Many sites here are sloped. The premium cement pads seemed to be more level than gravel sites. Space between sites varies within the CG—our site was very close to site 30 and thus, they didn't have much of a yard, but our site had a nice yard. Water pressure was decent. There’s no Wi-Fi in the CG, but we got 3 bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile. There are mature trees throughout, but most sites—except a few on the north perimeter—would have a clear shot for satellite. As you exit the park, if you have a big rig, you'll want to stay to the left side of the dump station for a wider right turn out of the park. This CG is a good option just east of Kansas City. We stayed overnight and would return.

  Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

  Crammed in a tent camping field...

  Let's Share COVID and a campfire song. When we booked a tent site in the KOA we didn't expect much but assumed it would work for the night while driving across the USA.  Upon arrival we were a little put off by being stuck with several other tents in a field and noticed we were expected to share our fire ring with the tent next door... this was not ok with us and we left promptly and snagged a nice spot in the nearby Blue Springs Recreation Area. Traveling during summer 2020 has been interesting and to expect strangers to share a fire ring and be crammed very close during a pandemic is not only careless but not fun. UGH

  Longview Campground

  Spacious spaces

  Spent 1 night at Longview Campground as we get used to our new-to-us pop up. We were in spot 43. Electric only 50/30. Our spot had good shade in the afternoon but most did not so check the website’s descriptions. Plenty of room to spread out, fire ring and picnic table. Long walk to the bathroom, even longer walk to the showers. We camp with our dogs and there were plenty of others also. One particularly rude neighbor, let theirs bark all night long.

  Russell Crites Primitive — Hillsdale State Park

  Trees, Lake Access, Biking, Hunting, Fishing, and Bow Range

  This campground is close to home for us, but we love it as a quick get away.  It has beautiful, tree-covered campsites that offer direct access to the lake.  The sites and facilities are well kept and clean.  Full-hookup sites don't have any tree coverage, but the electric/water sites near the lake are very cozy.  

  It is a great place to bike and fish.  It also has excellent public hunting areas.  It also has a great bow range for siting in and practicing with your bow.  You can even climb towers to practice shooting from "tree-stand" elevations.

  Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

  Great Overnight Campsite

  Stayed here for one night after driving down from Nebraska. Great place to set up for the night, clean bathrooms, a nice fire pit, and plenty of room to set up a tarp for the rain. Not too much privacy as there’s not very many trees around and the sites are close together but otherwise a great campground!
