    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

Crammed in a tent camping field...

Let's Share COVID and a campfire song. When we booked a tent site in the KOA we didn't expect much but assumed it would work for the night while driving across the USA.  Upon arrival we were a little put off by being stuck with several other tents in a field and noticed we were expected to share our fire ring with the tent next door... this was not ok with us and we left promptly and snagged a nice spot in the nearby Blue Springs Recreation Area. Traveling during summer 2020 has been interesting and to expect strangers to share a fire ring and be crammed very close during a pandemic is not only careless but not fun. UGH

    Worlds of Fun Village

    Novel Campground in Kansas City

This was an interesting stay at the Worlds of Fun campground. Located on the property there are RV sites and rental cabins. All RV sites were concrete with 50/30/20 amp, water and sewer. Back-in sites on rows 1 and 3 and pull through sites on row 2.

The theme park offered discounted tickets when staying at the campground and parking for the parks was included. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are internally connected, making it easy to walk between the two.

There is a pool, hot tub, laundry and clean bathrooms with showers. The campground did attempt to improve privacy with strategically placed trees and shrubs.

Row 1 (sites 1-20) is along a busy highway with semi truck noise 24 hours a day. I recommend either paying more for the pull-through (further from the road) or the back in sites 69-82 in row 3.

Security was disappointing, as there was no gate to the campground, nor a gate around it. So our campsite (site 2) that backed up to the road was 10 feet off the public sidewalk. Reviews of this campsite on other websites mentioned some petty theft, so we kept our outdoor compartments locked (nothing was stolen).

    Lake Paradise Resort

    A gem being polished!

We had a fun and relaxing time and loved the woodsy feel to it. We stayed here for a weekend in July 2020 and had a great time!  It is under new ownership and they are working to remodel and renovate all areas. I got to meet one of the owners and one of the owner's kids who works there and they were very nice and very helpful.  In fact, all staff I had contact with were! We had a nice full hookup RV site with a very woodsy feel.  Well shaded, grass and trees, view of water and nice space around us. Gravel site with picnic table and fire ring.  The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler. Roads throughout campground are gravel, not paved, if that makes a difference with kids bringing scooters or bikes.  We drove around to see the rest of the campground and saw lots of sites that I'd like to camp in when we come back. The cabins look nice, too. Waved at people sitting in front of them, but did not see inside them.  I'm looking forward to go here again and excited to see the updates they make over the next year!

Note: Included in your camp fee you get 2 free daily passes per night of camping to the pool and a discounted rate for any other swimmers; so for our family with 4 we had the free passes go to the parents and paid $3 each for the kids to swim & we did this two days.  As long as you have the wrist band on you can come and go all day to the pool.

Cons: quite a bit of poison oak around the fish cleaning area, shade at the pool is at a minimum, my phone (AT&T) could not get service there.

    Linn County Park

    Nice views!

Located in east central Kansas on 2600 acre Lake LaCygne (cooling reservoir for KCPL coal-fired power plant). No swimming or skiing allowed, only fishing boats. We stayed on site 112 in View Point Loop next to some permanent residents. There’s no stay limit here so some sites are very messy. Paved roads with gravel sites having W/E, mostly 30A but a few 50A like ours. Check in at the Marina to see which ones are available at this all first come first serve cg. They even have a few FHU sites but I imagine they are all taken by the residents. Nice dump station located in the back of the park along with a few rustic cabins. We enjoyed a waterfront site but there were many 30A sites available in a more wooded setting in several different loops. There are about 113 sites here.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

Great relaxing campground with many activities

Beautiful secluded campsite - amenities were clean. Kayak rentals were available for Lake Buteo - kayakers were out on the lake, and the lake has a trail all around it. Nice trail. The other lake, Clearfork Lake, was great for fishing for us! We did have a problem with Raccoons, but with our site being on the very edge of the sites I think that may be inevitable.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Quiet, clean and family friendly

Knob Noster State Park is close to Whiteman AFB and towns nearby for amenities. The park is clean and quiet. Weekends often mean a nearly full campground so make sure to reserve ahead! Weekdays there are few campers. The park is well shaded and it includes primitive and electric sites with water pumps within easy access to all sites. There are two sets of campground bathrooms—one is near the front and is brand new (2018); the other bathrooms are half way to the back of the campground. A dump station is at the front of the campground with a pull through drive. Ice, small grocery items and items are all available for purchase from the camp host. You can also rent kayaks either hourly or by the half or full day. There are lots of great trails for hiking, weekend park programs at the campground amphitheater, a playground and basketball courts. There is no WiFi in this park yet but I hear it’s coming soon. This is a great little park!!

    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

    Great overnight

Easy access to Interstate and pull through sites were long enough for our truck and 32’ trailer without having to unhitch. Stayed just one night as we passed through. Looked like it would be a good place to stay for multiple nights.

Clean campground. Nice grounds. Two good fenced dog parks.

Only negatives were our hookups were literally in the next site next to their table, and their fire ring was very close to our trailer.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Cute, Small Quiet

We camped the last weekend in September picking a late reservation where kayaks were available for our first tent test run were our main goals, which the site met. Kayaking was wildly available, due to the small lake and difficult launch, we can see why, but still very enjoyable. Site was very sizable for our tent, as most are suitable for campers. Lots of even ground, with decent distance. Facilities could do with some updates, but there were a number of bathrooms on site, spaced so no site seemed far, including the vault toilet and a lot of people masking up while going into bathrooms as well, which was appreciated. Current host was super nice and helpful to first timers. The tiny market has a number of random items, including a collapsible fork which was the only thing we hadn't overpacked, and wasn't overpriced. Fire pits on our site were adjustable, making grilling food easier to control.

Guide to Harrisonville

Cabin camping near Harrisonville, Missouri centers around reservable accommodations within a 40-mile radius. Situated in western Missouri at 920 feet elevation, the area experiences four distinct seasons with hot summers, cold winters, and thunderstorms common May through September. Most cabins in the region require advance booking during peak summer months when temperatures average 85-90°F.

What to do

Fishing at multiple lakes: Lake Paradise Resort offers shoreline fishing with easy access from cabin sites. "We camped here in September 2020. There are nice spots right by the lakes with big trees for shade. Kids found tons of frogs and snails to play with," noted one visitor who appreciated the natural surroundings.

Swimming options: Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA maintains a pool for cabin guests. "My kids and I stayed in a Cabin and it was nice! They have a pool there, a store, and lots of trees and also have a campfire spot," shared a reviewer about their family experience at the KOA.

Hiking trails: Knob Noster State Park Campground features several hiking paths through wooded terrain. "There are a couple of small lakes, one of which has kayak rentals. Several hiking trails. I have stayed here before and never encountered any problems. If you want a quiet relaxing campground, this may be for you," wrote one camper.

Paddling excursions: The park's small lakes provide opportunities for water recreation. "Beautiful secluded campsite - amenities were clean. Kayak rentals were available for Lake Buteo - kayakers were out on the lake, and the lake has a trail all around it," reported a visitor who enjoyed exploring the water.

What campers like

Peaceful atmosphere: Green Acres at Red Brick Farmhouse creates a tranquil setting for cabin stays. "Quiet, exceptionally clean, well maintained. Outstanding hosts and they even own a great local BBQ restaurant! We will stay there again on the return trip," wrote one reviewer who appreciated the peaceful environment.

Wildlife encounters: The natural setting provides opportunities to see animals in their habitat. "Lots of trees lots of wildlife. Had deer walk right through the campground when we were there," noted a visitor to Linn County Park who enjoyed the wildlife viewing.

Recreational facilities: Worlds of Fun Village provides additional entertainment options. "There is a pool, hot tub, laundry and clean bathrooms with showers. The campground did attempt to improve privacy with strategically placed trees and shrubs," explained a camper who stayed at this Kansas City location.

Cabin variety: Accommodations range from basic to more luxurious. "The camp ground filled up on the weekend but it was very quiet. There are a couple of small lakes, one of which has kayak rentals," commented a visitor to Knob Noster State Park Campground.

What you should know

Seasonal crowds: Summer weekends tend to fill quickly at most cabin locations. "We didn't reserve a spot and had to take one of the last 'non-electric back in sites' as all the many electric sites were already reserved and filled up fast," reported a visitor to Knob Noster State Park.

Varying amenities: Cabin features differ significantly between locations. "Cabins are okay and meet basic needs but are not cleaned thoroughly," noted a guest at Worlds of Fun Village, highlighting the importance of checking specific cabin facilities before booking.

Limited cell service: Some cabin locations have spotty connectivity. "Cell coverage a bit shaky - park has wifi," mentioned a visitor to Cozy Corner RV Park, who noted the communication limitations.

Reservation needs: Most cabin sites require advance booking. "Increase in the number of RVers has this place packed so a quick call and reservation to hold the site is recommended," advised a Cozy Corner RV Park visitor about securing accommodations.

Tips for camping with families

Pool availability: Several parks offer swimming options for children. "The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler," explained a visitor describing the family-friendly features.

Playground access: Milo Farm Sacred Land Retreat provides space for children to explore. "No. Hay palabras para describir esto tan increíble," shared an enthusiastic visitor about this unique cabin experience.

Bike-friendly paths: Some campgrounds feature roads appropriate for children's bikes. "The park is beautiful and very clean! The host was very kind and helpful," noted a visitor to Cozy Corner RV Park when describing their experience.

Wildlife education: Parks often feature opportunities to observe local animals. "We had a wonderful time and cooked everything on a portable LP grill outdoors in the amazing weather," shared a family who visited Knob Noster State Park Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose cabin locations based on specific needs. "Row 1 (sites 1-20) is along a busy highway with semi truck noise 24 hours a day. I recommend either paying more for the pull-through (further from the road) or the back in sites 69-82 in row 3," advised an experienced camper at Worlds of Fun Village.

Access considerations: Some cabin areas have challenging terrain. "Roads going up higher past us were a little rough but made for great walks with kids," explained a visitor to Lake Paradise Resort who found benefits in the rugged landscape.

Storm preparations: Weather safety features vary by location. "This park is privately owned. It has a very nice in ground pool along with a storm shelter which gives piece of mind in crazy Missouri weather," noted a visitor to Cozy Corner RV Park, highlighting an important safety feature.

Hookup locations: Site layouts affect cabin and RV experiences. "The only real thing this has going for it is proximity to an amusement park. It's in the middle of a sketchy at best neighborhood and is extremely crowded in the months the park is open," cautioned a visitor about Worlds of Fun Village's location factors.
