  Magnolia Sands RV Park, Mississippi

  What a great little RV park Magnolia Sands is!! Bridgett and Gary offer a rural setting in southeast Mississippi. 5 miles from Wiggins, Ms. Park has 20 sites with full hook-ups. $24 for 30 amp and $26 per night for 50 amp. Beautiful park amongst the trees with its own pond. Concrete pads are large enough to handle most “big rigs”. Open year round and monthly rates are available. The park is 40 miles north of Gulf Port and Biloxi so finding some Gulf beaches is easy. On site is a laundry, game room, meeting room and bathrooms with showers. Basketball and volleyball areas provide recreational entertainment. A strong WiFi network is available. The nearby town of Wiggins has everything you’ll need! Restaurants, grocery stores and fuel.

  If you are looking for a quite, peaceful, no frills spot to stay… I highly recommend Magnolia Sands RV Park! We have already booked our stay to return in March.

  Mostly long term residents in residential mobile homes, motor homes, fifth wheels, and travel trailers. Some are in need of repairs and power washing. Not an RV resort. That’s the bad. Now the good. Location, location, location; 30 minutes from New Orleans, $600 a month or $175 a week (as of 11/2024), electricity and water included in price, FHU.

  Little Black Creek Campground & Park

  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hidden Gem — Can’t Believe I’d Never Heard of It!

  We just spent the weekend at Little Black Creek Campground in Lumberton, MS, and it absolutely deserves a 5-star review. I live less than 2 hours away and honestly can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this place sooner — it’s a massive, beautifully wooded, and incredibly well-maintained hidden gem.

  We stayed at a full hookup RV site and were blown away by how spacious, level, and private it was. Most sites had wooden decks, and many had lake views or direct access, including ours, which had stairs leading right down to the water and a picnic table on a platform. We didn’t see a single “bad” site in the whole park.

  The lake is gorgeous, and swimming is allowed! They have kayaks, canoes, jon boats for rent, and even a bait shop onsite. There’s also fishing, hiking trails, disc golf (two full courses!), a general store, multiple bathhouses, and cute tiny cabin rentals for non-RV guests. They even have propane filling, golf cart rentals, and a dump station. It’s a great mix of peaceful nature and plenty to do.

  The campground is huge and wooded, with tons of shade and a very peaceful, quiet, and family-friendly atmosphere. There are two beaches — one near the main camp side and another closer to long-term spots and day visitors. We brought our e-bikes and loved riding around the scenic roads and loops.

  The bathhouses were older but very clean and air-conditioned, and we felt completely safe the entire time. There’s a gated entrance at night with code access, which is a nice extra touch. The store staff were super friendly and helpful, even giving us some history on the campground. The greeter at the front gate wasn’t the warmest, but that didn’t impact our stay at all.

  There’s no Wi-Fi, but T-Mobile worked just enough for us to use a hotspot to stream TV at night. Cell service is limited but manageable.

  It’s also very easy to find, just a few minutes off the main road with a gas station and small town nearby, and only about 30 minutes from Hattiesburg.

  We will 100% be back and have already told several friends about it. If you’re looking for a peaceful, activity-filled campground that’s off the radar but worth every mile, Little Black Creek is it. Truly one of the best surprises we’ve had camping!

  Oaklawn RV Park

  Good for a layover

  The good: location was great, right off the highway and next to a Camping World, Tire center, and emergency vet. Wi-Fi worked well, park felt safe, and we were only 10 minutes from major attractions in the area. The bad: water pressure was horrible. Sites were tight and overlapping, a little uneven, and about 4 inches unlevel. This is definitely a long term campground connected to a mobile home park.

  There are a few open pull throughs for transient travelers and I would recommend them as an overnight stay based on location only.

  Land-O-Pines Family Campground

  Pleasant campground

  Land-O-Pines is a nice private RV park near Folsom and Covington. We stayed two nights because my daughter was in a horse competition at a nearby horse farm. The sites are mostly shady. The streets and sites are gravel and can get a little muddy in spots after a rain. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. About half the sites are for permanent users. 

  Stayed in pull-through campsite C69 which was shady and level. It was a gravel site. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby by not on top of you. The site included: picnic table on gravel, no fire ring. Utilities: 20/50A electric near the middle. The 20A receptacle looked like it had some minor burn marks. Water next to power pole, good pressure. Sewer near power pole with 4 non screw-on fitting. 

  AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon full bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 30.8 Mbps down, 3.6 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 4.5 Mbps down, 11.8 Mbps up. WiFi available, but did not use. Required a login. 

  Would stay here again. We camped at Land-O-Pines Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

  Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

  Gem on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

  We really enjoyed our stay at Davis Bayou. The campground seems to be a bit dated, but we kinda enjoyed the nostalgic element this added to the vibe.

  The sites vary in size, we noticed most big rigs had to park their tow vehicles or toads in the auxiliary parking. If this is a problem you may want to look at other options, as the park staff is very diligent about keeping folks off the grass.

  The park staff did regular patrols though out the park. They were very friendly.

  We enjoyed riding our bikes around the park and to the historic arts district in Ocean Springs. There are several restaurants and bars with live music which was fun. There are also alot of art studios to check out.

  We also took our canoe all though out Davis Bayou and to the beach, which was a ton of fun. The tides are in play here, so make sure you study up as conditions can and do change rapidly.

  The visitors center is definitely worth checking out and while your there make sure to check out the fishing pier.

  Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, power and water.

  The cost is $22 a night per site.

  The bathhouses were cleaned regular and had great water pressure. The water has a bit of a smell to it.

  Verizon cell service worked okay.

  Bring bug spray.

  French Quarter RV Resort

  Quaint & Accessible in the Big Easy

  Despite being just a stone’s throw from the historic famed district that you’ve come here to revel in and perhaps catch some beads here in NoLa, French Quarter RV Resort (FQRV) is a small slice of respite in an otherwise busy, traffic-jammed section of the Crescent City. Easily spotted from atop Highway 10, which you can access from Exit 235A as you enter the city, you’ll be able to depart 3-lane highway chaos and shoulder-to-shoulder dwellings and enter a fortified encased stone wall fortress complete with a key-coded security entrance that provides both increased privacy as well as a solid measure of 24/ 7 security (complete with a staffed security guard from 8pm until 7am). 

  While occupying an entire space that is more or less equivalent to a small city block or the inside of a football field, what I enjoyed most about FQRV is the very welcoming and accommodating staff that will greet you here as well as the handful of smart amenities that this RV haven provides. After being let into the property, you’ll park immediately to the left as you enter, where there’s a handful of visitor spots, otherwise, feel free to park in one of the few empty spots or alongside the bricked sugar mill main building that lies right in front of you. 

  Once inside, you’ll check-in, find yourself and either pull-through or back-in to one of the 52 well-paved flat sites offering up a minimum of 30’ wide X 60’ long slots offering up the standard RV hook-ups of 20 / 30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage. Additional amenities include: spartan new clubhouse (conveniently and centrally located just behind the main office) fitness and laundry rooms, 72 channels of cable TV, 4 private restroom facilities immaculately clean and complete with hot / cold showers, business office with fax / copier / WiFi / printer, ATM, community gazebo with wet bar and ice machine. Perhaps the best amenity here is the very inviting community pool that also features a jacuzzi and while not the largest of watering holes, seems somehow perfect for the size of this place. Don’t have an RV but want to spend the night here at FQRV anyway? Well, not a problem as there is a single on-site condo that offers up a master full bedroom w/ king size bed, full-kitchen, private bathroom w/ shower and tub, pull-out queen sofa bed, living room, cable-TV, separate WiFi and individual washer& dryer. 

  Insider’s tips? Here’s a handful: (1) To my tent pitching bredren, FQRV is offered up exclusively for the RV driving and 5th Wheel toting crowd, so you’ll have to look elsewhere if you’d to camp up here in the Big Easy; (2) If for any reason you arrive to FQRV without a reservation and there is ‘no room at the inn,’ there are a few very large-sized open parking lots just due east of this RV resort that at least you’ll be able to park overnight, in case you arrive late or don’t have time to find another spot to park your mobile camping abode; (3) At $120 per night ($700 per week or $2,400 per month), FQRV certainly isn’t a cheap option, but when you consider all of the very great amenities this place offers in addition to the extremely secure spot you’ll be parking your luxury cruiser at as well as, perhaps most importantly, the very easy and quick access this location provides to the French Quarter, which by my walking calculations will have you munching on a shrimp po’ boy while washing it all down with a nice Sazerac, which would be a careful concoction involving Cognac, Absinthe and whiskey (and yes, that ‘e’ in whiskey means American or Irish); (4) IMHO the best sites are actually the standard sites that are noted as ‘budget friendly’ are located closest to Interstate 10, which seems like an odd recommendation, but given that this busy highway is a good 200 feat above you, there’s really no escaping the noise it imparts, but at least you won’t see it or have to pay more (note: it’ll run you an extra $35 per night for ‘premium sites’ located closer to the main building, although you will also get a really nice screened gazebo in front of your slot as well as a‘longer runway’ in case you come packing a stretch limo RV); (5) There is no way to reserve a spot in advance of arriving here to FQRV, which is a bit frustrating at first, but when you realize that nearly every site is just the same as the one next to it, you’ll find yourself getting over this slight inconvenience real quick; (6) While there are no fire rings here, FQRV does allow you light up your own BBQ; (7) While the standard per nightly rates apply to average, non-event dates, you’ll realize pretty quickly here in the Big Easy that there’s an event just about every week, and this is more expansive than just Mardi Gras, generally the 3rd week of February, but let’s be honest, the revelry usually begins the 2 weeks preceding the carnival festivities … so you’ll want to keep in mind French Quarter Festival and Jazz Festival as well as some of the more popular football events will run you extra$.

  Santa Maria RV Park

  Christopher Columbus Would Have Loved This Place!

  I’m not sure where they got the name from, but if El Colon was still living, he would really dig how this RV parking lot is using the name of his beloved Santa Maria! Located due south of Farragut Lake, right off Rt. 10 and just west of the Pascagoula River, you’ll come across Santa Maria RV Resort Marina. 

  This spot offers up just about everything you would expect – full RV hook ups including water, sewer and electricity (30 / 50 amp), level gravel beds where you can just connect, level up and be done with it in under 5 minutes. Unlike most RV parking lots, this place has a ton of space and there’s somewhat good distance between your spot and those on either side of you. And if you’re hauling or driving anything bigger than the standard RV or camper, no worries, this place is spacious enough to accommodate just about any size (and even large group sizes). The campground was both kid and pet friendly. Also, I found the on-site campground management team to be incredibly over-friendly (nice Southern hospitality!) and accommodating. 

  From an amenities standpoint, this place is completely full-service (in fact, they’ll escort you right to your campsite!). They’ve got a small, but clean swimming pool, laundr-O-mat, spartan restroom facilities and a propane pump on-site. WiFi is available for free and cable is offered for a small price if you need that. Overall, I found the place to be very well-organized, incredibly clean and exceptionally safe with round-the-clock security. 

  With nature in mind, this place is in close proximity to quite a bit – from Gautier, MS who’s moniker is ‘Nature’s Playground,’ there’s tons of wildlife to see, decent outdoor recreation and hiking to be found and bayous all over the place to drop your kayak or canoe into. 

  Insider’s tip? Some of the best kayaking was had in and around Mississippi - Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. Closer to the campground though, you’ll find a splendid little Southern town in the City of Gautier, which has some quiet boutique-type shops, Southern restauarnts (I strongly recommend Belle’s on the Bayou or Country Gentleman), farmers market on the weekends, nice municipal parks and even some art exhibits from time to time. All in all, I strongly recommend Santa Maria RV Resort Marina if you’re looking for a decent stop along your travels.

  Close to Ocean Springs, Ms.

  This is a popular park during the winter months as it is a National Park. Reserve early. No wifi, no laundry but clean bathrooms and shower. Electric and water at the campsites and a dump station is available. Close to town and all the good eats. Nice clean park.
