Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Kiln, MS

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

McLeod Park Campground spans a shaded area with concrete pads and full hookups for RVs and tents along the Jourdan River. Located in Kiln, Mississippi, the park provides pet-friendly camping with spacious, tree-covered sites where dogs must remain leashed throughout the grounds. Bay Hide Away RV Park and Campground also welcomes pets with large, private sites surrounded by mixed forest of hardwood and pines. The campground features a dedicated dog park area for off-leash play, making it popular for RV travelers with canine companions. Creekside Farm has more primitive camping options with five well-spaced tent sites where pets are permitted on leads. Campground reviews indicate the sites remain quite spacious despite limits on total campers, creating a true woods camping experience. Most parks enforce standard pet policies requiring waste cleanup and control of barking during quiet hours.

Dog-friendly trails throughout the area provide excellent walking opportunities for campers with pets. McLeod Park offers a nature trail with river views that extends to a small sand bar, though reviews note some rough terrain with exposed roots requiring careful navigation with dogs. Hancock RV Park and Bay St. Louis RV Park maintain clean facilities where pets are welcome. Pearl River WMA at Crawford Landing provides more primitive camping opportunities for pet owners seeking a less developed experience. Water access is abundant throughout the region's campgrounds, with the Jourdan River at McLeod Park and creek access at Creekside Farm allowing dogs to cool off during hot Mississippi summers. Campground owners at Bay Hide Away are particularly attentive, regularly checking on guests and providing assistance, making it comfortable for extended stays with pets. The parks' proximity to Bay St. Louis beaches creates additional dog exercise options within a short drive.

    Parkers Landing RV Park

    Nice Little Park

This is a nice little park. Not fancy, but friendly and quiet. The office people were really nice and very accomodating. Has a small pool, showers/restrooms, and laundry. There are maybe 50% fulltime residents, but we were there for two months and never heard/saw any drama or trouble. People were friendly and kept mainly to themselves. Park has lots of shade from beautiful live oak trees and has a waterfront area that is very pretty. No dog park, but plenty of places to walk your leashed pet. There is a boat ramp around the corner and I believe the waterway connects to the river. The park is older, and some of the cement pads are cracked and heaving, but looked like people were able to level up. They mow and trim regularly, so things were neat. This isn't a new fancy park, but it was nice and quiet and we liked it. We had site 64 which was a great really long pull thru with full hookups. Our Verizon reception was good. They offer reasonable weekly and monthly prices as well as nightly. The park is off Exit 41 of I-10 about halfway between D'Iberville/Biloxi exit and Gulfport exit (both have tons of shopping). Local area has tons to do...casinos, beaches, about an hour and quarter to New Orleans, Shuckers baseball, plus tons of great food.

    Gulf Beach RV Resort

    Good for RV spot overnight

Stayed here because it was so close, literally a block away, from the Mississippi Colosseum, for granddaughters cheer competition. We checked it and were greeted at arrival, with information packet. FHU, back-in concrete pad, and small dog park. A nice clubhouse and facilities, although we did not use. Directly across the street from the beach, perfect for photos. Clean pool but too cold to use. Very close to neighbors and backed up to apts, which the garbage truck came super early on Sat, dumpster on other side of fence. We were up early, but if you like relaxing and peacefulness, probably not my choice. Close to lots of area attractions, stores and restaurants. Many closed for off season, however. Waffle House next door to RV park. Good for short stay!

    Shepard State Park Campground

    Lots to do here!

The primitive campsite was very nice. Even though the park was a bit crowded we still had privacy. The dog park was perfect for our two large dog, very clean. My toddler had a very easy time walking around which was a huge plus!  The marsh trails were perfect for viewing wildlife. 10/10, would recommend!

Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground

    Roomy sites and great service

We were arriving a day early and stuck in bad storms. Thank goodness they had space! The sites were very roomy and level. Utilities were near each other for easy set up. The park had a good sized dog park and lots of green space to play frisbee golf or walk.

    Shields RV Park

    2 parks 2 different feels

Lived in the front park for 6 months. Busy with outside traffic and trains. Park in the back of base is newer and nicer. 20x40 level concrete pads. Secluded from the rest of base. Little fishing pods and trails from old golf course. Bath house with 4 separate rooms with toilets and showers. Washer and dryer. Near giant voice speaker so you won’t sleep in past 8am any day and you’ll hear any emergency. Only way out is tricky during pt hours in the morning with all the runners. Large dog park a short walk away.

Nice but beware if you have pets.

This is an RV Park and Living community. No tent camping. A sign out front says its under new management and ownership. I found the folks to be helpful and friendly. We have two issues which may not bother everyone but it did us. Dog poop everywhere! So watch where you walk. As well, a couple of folks that live there let their pets out without a leash. We were greeted by a pit bull without a leash while walking our little dogs.

Guide to Kiln

The Kiln area features mild winters and hot, humid summers with annual rainfall of about 65 inches, creating lush coastal forests. Located in Hancock County, Mississippi, the region sits at a low elevation near sea level with the Jourdan River flowing through it. Camping sites typically remain accessible year-round, though summer mosquito activity requires preparation.

What to do

Disc golf adventures: Buccaneer State Park Campground features a complete disc golf course suitable for various skill levels. "We came to play disc golf. It was a very nice course. Loved our campsite. It backed up to some woods & had a lot of space," shares Brie M.

Explore nature trails: The region offers walking paths with varying difficulty levels. "We walked the nature trail and enjoyed the river views from our campsite," notes Tiffany M. from her October stay at McLeod Park, adding that children will appreciate the playground and splash pad facilities.

Water activities: Most campgrounds offer water access for fishing, kayaking or swimming. "Beautiful campground, boat launch and water access are nice," reports Brandi L. about the facilities at McLeod Park Campground.

Coastal exploration: Local campgrounds serve as good base locations for beach visits. "Close proximity to a beautiful beach," mentions a Buccaneer State Park visitor, while others note the short drive to Gulf Coast beaches for day trips.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers appreciate well-spaced camping areas. "Sites around the water and a lot of trees for shade," mentions Sue M. about her experience at McLeod Park. The concrete pads at many sites provide stable foundations for equipment.

Wildlife viewing: The natural setting attracts various wildlife. "This quiet campground is spacious. They limit the number of campers so this really does feel like primitive camping in the woods," explains Alicia L. about her experience at Creekside Farm Co.

Clean facilities: Maintenance standards receive positive mentions. "The park is clean. They have a splash pad and playground for the kids. The bathhouse only has two showers. There isn't alot of water pressure. It is hot water though," reports Ann H. about McLeod Park.

Access to amenities: Many campgrounds balance natural settings with practical facilities. "Nearly every site has a level concrete pad and many have full hookups. Lots of trees," notes Jeffrey Z. about the convenience of camping at McLeod Park while still enjoying nature.

What you should know

Reservation systems: Some parks have transitioned to online booking which affects availability. "Great camping spot but to get in almost impossible now. Full hook up water 50 amp service and sewage. Bath house are clean," explains keith about the challenging reservation process at McLeod Park.

Seasonal considerations: Summer brings increased insects and humidity. "The roaches THE ROACHES WERE HORRIBLE. Especially at night as soon as you'd open up the door they were flying EVERYWHERE, we camped in August," warns Ashlyn B. about her summer experience at McLeod Park.

Cell service variability: Coverage can be inconsistent depending on provider and location. "Cell service: Verizon service with 2 bars and AT&T one bar sometimes none. We were able to stream the LSU Tigers beat Arkansas on our Verizon hot spot," reports Tiffany M. about connectivity at Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground.

Trail conditions: Natural paths may present challenges. "We had to be extra careful bc of the roots and huge holes in the ground," cautions Ashlyn B. regarding the nature trail at McLeod Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. "Great playground and splash pad for the children," mentions Tiffany M. about the family-friendly amenities at McLeod Park.

Pet-friendly options: Most area campgrounds welcome dogs with proper restrictions. Silver Slipper Beachfront RV Park provides waterfront camping where pets are permitted. "We were backed up to the gulf of Mexico. We ended up staying an extra 3 days," notes Tony G. about his enjoyable stay with adequate space for pets.

Water features: Splash pads and water access provide relief during hot months. "They have a pool and water park," explains J B. about the facilities at Buccaneer State Park, adding, "Everything was rebuilt after Katrina in 2005 and it was done very nicely."

Weekend crowds: Expect more activity during weekends with potential noise. "We didn't really like the drinking and people riding on their boats blaring obnoxious music, but that's just our personal preference and only happened during the weekend," shares Ashlyn B. about the weekend atmosphere at McLeod Park.

Tips from RVers

Site spacing considerations: Some parks have tighter arrangements than others. "Beautiful campground, boat launch and water access are nice, but the most crowded park we have been to! You're VERY close to your neighbors and there is little room for parking," cautions Brandi L. about the density at McLeod Park.

Hookup availability: Most RV sites offer full connections, but specifics vary. Fontainebleau State Park Campground offers comprehensive facilities within driving distance. "Be careful booking a pull thru site if your unit is over 25', they're horseshoe shaped. We could not fit on a pull thru site," advises Martha S. about navigating the campground layout.

Campground capacity: Several dog friendly campgrounds near Kiln limit capacity to maintain quality. "The sites were very roomy and level. Utilities were near each other for easy set up," shares a reviewer from Bay Hide Away RV Park, which features a dedicated off-leash area for pets.

Off-season advantages: Consider visiting during shoulder seasons for a quieter experience. "We enjoyed our mid October stay," mentions Tiffany M. about McLeod Park, noting "This park packs them in during the summer months but was pretty quiet this time."
