Wolf River Resort houses upscale glamping accommodations near Kiln, Mississippi, with full hookups, waterfront access, and comfortable year-round lodgings. The resort features spacious sites with picnic tables, modern bathroom facilities with hot showers, and trash service. A recent visitor mentioned, "The sites are very spaced out and well maintained. The staff was friendly and very pleasant." Hancock RV Park also offers glamping options including yurt accommodations with firewood available on-site. Both locations provide drinking water, electric hookups, and sewer connections for an enhanced outdoor experience. The glamping sites include amenities that traditional camping lacks, such as level concrete pads, full bathroom access, and proximity to local attractions.

The Wolf River provides a scenic backdrop for glamping experiences with opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing directly from the property. One reviewer highlighted, "Nice park on the Wolf River. Scenic nature trail. Easy access to the Gulf beaches." Guests can explore the nature trail system or take advantage of boat launch access for river adventures. The Gulf Coast beaches are a short drive away, with dining and shopping options nearby in Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian. All You Need Institute offers a more secluded glamping experience with yurt and micro cabin accommodations situated on 7 sites. While these accommodations are more rustic with toilets but no showers, they provide a peaceful retreat with picnic tables and fire rings in a natural setting. Most glamping locations in the area operate year-round, making them suitable for both summer water activities and mild winter getaways.

      Flint Creek Waterpark

      Nice Park

The best sites are the first come first serve sites. These sites are in the Mohawk area. I would avoid the Kahaka area if you want a beach area as there isn’t one. All the bathrooms have no air conditioning. There are boat launches and many sites that you can anchor your boat at or near by.

      Keesler AFB FamCamp

      Small spaces and disappointing experience

We reserved 4 months ago, only to get there and find out there may be an issue with our dogs (2 max and we have 3...well behaved dachshunds. When we reserved, they "penciled us in". No deposit and no information, other than our name and dates. Got there for our reservation and told that we cant have three dogs there and either have to board one or leave. When i said we had nowhere to go, they were willing to let us stay one night so we could find other accomodations for the next few days, but after that warm welcome, even one night was not an option. Never were we told pets would be an issue, we never got a confirmation email that mentioned pets, and then to arrive and find out we had to find somewhere else to stay was disappointing to say the least. We were able to stay the night at Shield, so we went over there to work on our plans for the next few days. So glad we did, as the sites were much larger, much more private and the office staff was very accomadating with our last minute reservation. Apparently Keesler is adding sites, so it may be better next year, but currently the sites are close together with a fire pit in the center. For the hour we did sit in our site, we had to keep the windows closed because of the smoke. Another issue...the drive in was sketchy for a high profile 5th wheel, with low hanging trees and narrow streets. Lastly, for those lookong for the security and conveniences of staying at a famcamp, this fam camp is off base.

      Buccaneer State Park Campground

Huge Park with Tons of Amenities

This park is giant! There are probably over 200 sites for camping in this park with beachfront sites and even primitive drive up sites for tent camping back in the woods. The park has 2 shower areas and 4 bathrooms on site as well as multiple playgrounds for the kiddos and even a water park! It is located directly across the street from the Gulf of Mexico and has its own private beach. I stayed in the primitive camping sites for 2 nights because all other sites were reserved for the weekend and it was great. No electric hookup or water but the sites are privately tucked away in the woods and only cost 15$ per night. If you want, you can stay beachfront for 48$ and I believe the regular sites with hookups and water are around $30 per night. The park itself is very well maintained and has ice and drinks for sale in the front office. The employees are extremely nice and helpful and will even tell you about fun things to do in town while you’re there. Definitely the biggest and one of the nicest campgrounds/state parks I’ve stayed in. Worth the trip!

      Land-O-Pines Family Campground

      Pleasant campground

Land-O-Pines is a nice private RV park near Folsom and Covington. We stayed two nights because my daughter was in a horse competition at a nearby horse farm. The sites are mostly shady. The streets and sites are gravel and can get a little muddy in spots after a rain. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. About half the sites are for permanent users.

Stayed in pull-through campsite C69 which was shady and level. It was a gravel site. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby by not on top of you. The site included: picnic table on gravel, no fire ring. Utilities: 20/50A electric near the middle. The 20A receptacle looked like it had some minor burn marks. Water next to power pole, good pressure. Sewer near power pole with 4 non screw-on fitting.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon full bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 30.8 Mbps down, 3.6 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 4.5 Mbps down, 11.8 Mbps up. WiFi available, but did not use. Required a login.

Would stay here again. We camped at Land-O-Pines Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

New Orleans RV Resort & Marina

      Interesting location, a hidden gem.

The biggest drawbacks are the drive up and the ... Flight for life? Helicopter that keeps passing over. The amenities are top notch, the sites are great. The price is a premium, but it's legit. We wanted a presidential site for its private hot tub, but apparently the one available isn't free for our duration. We got one next to it and it shares the excellent Waterfront view. The communal pool and hot tub are great to relax in after our long drive in. Looking forward to exploring the city which is right down the road.

Three Oaks & A Pine RV Park

Small Campground close to City Centre

This is a small campground, but overall it’s a good place to stay. The positives: The location is very convenient. It’s easy to get to the Basin Lot with an RV, where you can park a large vehicle for $12 for up to 10 hours and then walk to the French Quarter in about five minutes. The bathrooms and showers were clean, and the host was genuinely friendly and welcoming.

The downsides: The noise from the nearby road and train tracks can be quite noticeable. That said, since you're staying in a city, it’s hard to expect complete peace and quiet at night. As other reviewers have mentioned, the surrounding neighborhood isn’t the best, and we unfortunately experienced that ourselves. We went outside the campground one evening and immediately had an unpleasant encounter, which led us to return to the campground fairly quickly. Of course, this isn’t the campground’s fault. The property itself is well secured with gates and fences, and we felt safe while inside. If you're looking for a campground as a base for exploring New Orleans during the day, I can definitely recommend it. I would just suggest avoiding walking around the area after sunset.

Three Oaks & A Pine RV Park

      Convenient location and basic amenities

About 30 back in gravel slots, the neighborhood is not very scenic but it’s a good location right off I-10 and 15 minutes to the French Quarter. I’m a single female traveler and I did not feel unsafe. It has showers, laundry (though a few machines don’t work), a coded gate that closes at 8pm, and a nifty human size chess set. The prices seem to change by season and during events so call in. It is by a train depot, so there is considerable noise. There’s a snow ball stand going south on Chef Hwy on the right that is worth the excursion though I promise 😂

      Buccaneer State Park Campground

      Close to the beach

Site is hit and miss. Beautiful pool closed due to covid.

Primitive camping looked great. Loops are dependent on site—shady spots on the exterior are great but the interior spots can be garbage. The spots along beach Blvd have a great view but it’s in a parking lot next to the water park.

The women’s bath houses were terrible—mildew, frogs, mosquitoes, always a running tap.

    Guide to Kiln

The area sits at a low elevation of around 30 feet above sea level with soil that drains poorly after rain. Primitive camping options around Kiln offer alternatives to glamping, with several parks providing sites for those seeking basic accommodations near waterways.

    What to do

Water activities at McLeod Park: This family-friendly destination offers boat launch access on the Jourdan River with opportunities for kayaking and fishing. "We enjoyed our mid October stay. Great playground and splash pad for the children. We walked the nature trail and enjoyed the river views from our campsite," notes a visitor at McLeod Park Campground.

Nature trail exploration: McLeod Park features a walking trail system with river views. According to a recent camper, "Nearly every site has a level concrete pad and many have full hookups. Lots of trees. There is a nice nature trail and playground."

Beach day trips: Campsites around Kiln serve as convenient bases for exploring Gulf beaches. A reviewer at Flint Creek Waterpark mentioned, "The beaches are nice for campers," while another pointed out these parks provide "easy access to the Gulf beaches."

Casino entertainment: For adult entertainment, Boomtown Casino RV Park offers convenient access to gambling. As one camper noted, "Location is in walking distance to the Boomtown Casino."

    What campers like

Spacious waterfront sites: Many campgrounds feature riverside locations with scenic views. At Flint Creek Waterpark, a camper shared, "Site 141 was in a very wooded area at the far end of all three RV areas... Had a beautiful view of the water where you could fish. This spot was so quiet and peaceful, no road noise was heard the entire 3 days."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and shower facilities are important to campers. A McLeod Park visitor stated, "The park is clean and very family friendly."

Kid-friendly amenities: Families appreciate parks with dedicated children's areas. A Flint Creek visitor mentioned, "Swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, and small playground available. The water park is not anything 'great', but it's something for little kids ($12) per person."

Wildlife viewing: Natural settings around Kiln provide opportunities to spot local fauna. One camper at Wolf River Resort wrote, "We spotted a raccoon in the tree at our site."

    What you should know

Weather considerations: The subtropical climate means high humidity, especially in summer. A McLeod Park camper warned, "The roaches THE ROACHES WERE HORRIBLE. Especially at night as soon as you'd open up the door they were flying EVERYWHERE, we camped in August."

Noise levels: Weekend activity can change the camping experience. A McLeod Park review noted, "We didn't really like the drinking and people riding on their boats blaring obnoxious music, but that's just our personal preference and only happened during the weekend."

Reservation difficulties: Some parks have challenging booking systems. A camper mentioned, "McLeod park is a great place to camp. Specially when you could call in to make reservations. Now that they do online cannot get available spots. No update if spot comes available. Great camping spot but to get in almost impossible now."

Site conditions: Terrain can vary significantly between campgrounds. At All You Need Institute - Yurt & Micro Cabin, a visitor reported, "The spot is really nicely arbored, but big spiders all over the place, and ants nests everywhere as well, as soon as I got my food out they were all over."

    Tips for camping with families

Splash pad access: Several parks offer water features specifically for children. A Flint Creek camper shared, "Great spot of swimming and biking. Private spots and great shade."

Playground availability: Look for campgrounds with play areas to keep kids entertained. One McLeod visitor said, "We spent most of our time at the playground! It's really not that bad of a park."

Halloween camping: Fall camping offers special activities for families. A Flint Creek camper noted, "We stayed here during Halloween and it was pretty crowded. We prefer more secluded camping sites, and this campground provides plenty of space despite being so packed. There were several RV campgrounds that had decorations and trick-or-treating."

Wildlife awareness: Prepare children for wildlife encounters. A camper mentioned, "We did encounter coyote, deer, and lots of talkative geese, so be prepared for some wildlife interaction."

    Tips from RVers

Level sites: Check reviews for information about site leveling. A reviewer at Keesler AFB FamCamp noted, "It's clean, lots of space between each concrete slab, and the host is very friendly."

Hookup placement: Water and sewer connections may have positioning issues. A Flint Creek camper stated, "The only issue I had with the spots were they were all uneven, but somehow I was able to level my 37' travel trailer on the first try without any leveling aids."

Cell service information: Connectivity varies between parks. A McLeod Park visitor shared, "Cell service: Verizon service with 2 bars and AT&T one bar sometimes none. We were able to stream the LSU Tigers beat Arkansas on our Verizon hot spot."

Space between sites: RV parks differ in how densely they pack campsites. One McLeod Park visitor cautioned, "Beautiful campground, boat launch and water access are nice, but the most crowded park we have been to! You're VERY close to your neighbors and there is little room for parking."
