    Sugar Sands RV Resort

    Our favorite Orange Beach campground

Very clean. Spacious sites with level concrete pads. Full hook ups. Only 8-10 minutes to the beach.  Very clean bath houses. Easy to navigate campground road with tons of room to back into back-in sites. Pull throughs also easily assessible. Nice pool. Check in easy and quick. Employees very friendly. Will be back next month. Camp store on site. They also have a few rental tiny houses and rv's. Trash pickup at your site each morning. Cable TV and great WIFI.

9/6/20 update: all things mostly the same, bath house closed from 8pm to 8am and WiFi not nearly as good as past visits.

    Magnolia Farms RV Park

    Quiet, Friendly RV Park

We are fairly new to the RV life - Andy tried to help us back in, and then decided he would just do it for us. He was so helpful. Everyone has been helpful. The laundry facility has an app that lets you know when your clothes are done, so you can walk back to your camper and wait instead of sitting with it. 3 or 4 activities are planned every month. There are some permanent residents, but enough transient to feel like you are with travelers. We chose it because it was close to our daughter, but would choose it again. Monthly rate is cheaper than daily rate. There is a fire pit for everyone to share, but no fire pits or grills for individual sites. Wooden decks for each site are nice. Grassy back in and some pull through- all level. Someone is always tending to the grounds and doing maintenance on the sites. We’ll be back!

    Gulf State Park Campground

    Beaches and bikes

Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park Current camping spot on the canal. Ours is a nice pull thru with electric and water. Almost 500 sites here from tent to big rig friendly. Spacious sites, some with foliage, some with Lake or canal views. Grills but no fire pits. Right now there's a shortage of usable bath houses because of hurricane damage repairs in progress. Good wifi, local TV, and cell service. Close to stores and dining. Free access to adjacent pier. Great coastal access. Free use of bikes. Lots of great paved and boardwalk trails. Gators, snakes, armadillos and birds reside here.

Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

Gem on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

We really enjoyed our stay at Davis Bayou. The campground seems to be a bit dated, but we kinda enjoyed the nostalgic element this added to the vibe.

The sites vary in size, we noticed most big rigs had to park their tow vehicles or toads in the auxiliary parking. If this is a problem you may want to look at other options, as the park staff is very diligent about keeping folks off the grass.

The park staff did regular patrols though out the park. They were very friendly.

We enjoyed riding our bikes around the park and to the historic arts district in Ocean Springs. There are several restaurants and bars with live music which was fun. There are also alot of art studios to check out.

We also took our canoe all though out Davis Bayou and to the beach, which was a ton of fun. The tides are in play here, so make sure you study up as conditions can and do change rapidly.

The visitors center is definitely worth checking out and while your there make sure to check out the fishing pier.

Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, power and water.

The cost is $22 a night per site.

The bathhouses were cleaned regular and had great water pressure. The water has a bit of a smell to it.

    Verizon cell service worked okay.

    Bring bug spray.

    Sun Outdoors Orange Beach

    Lots of concrete

This is an all Inclusive RV Resort! Lots of spaces, but very few RVs when we were there. Sites are all concrete with easy access hookups. Not much shade. 2 pools, one adult only. Dog Park, laundry, tennis courts, gulf cart rental. They even have a business center. Walking trails connect to Gulf State Park. They do a lot of planned activities which can be annoying. Long term or short term sites available.

Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

    Close to Ocean Springs, Ms.

This is a popular park during the winter months as it is a National Park. Reserve early. No wifi, no laundry but clean bathrooms and shower. Electric and water at the campsites and a dump station is available. Close to town and all the good eats. Nice clean park.

    Luxury RV Resort

    Great level spots

The park great and very easy to get into (35’ 5th wheel). It was very full while we were there but the spots were set up to feel like you still had your own space from your neighbors. Room to park 2 cars. 2 separate spots to tie into the sewer which was nice. Level concrete pads with picnic tables. Hosts where very helpful. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Would stay again.

    Santa Maria RV Park

Christopher Columbus Would Have Loved This Place!

I’m not sure where they got the name from, but if El Colon was still living, he would really dig how this RV parking lot is using the name of his beloved Santa Maria! Located due south of Farragut Lake, right off Rt. 10 and just west of the Pascagoula River, you’ll come across Santa Maria RV Resort Marina.

This spot offers up just about everything you would expect – full RV hook ups including water, sewer and electricity (30 / 50 amp), level gravel beds where you can just connect, level up and be done with it in under 5 minutes. Unlike most RV parking lots, this place has a ton of space and there’s somewhat good distance between your spot and those on either side of you. And if you’re hauling or driving anything bigger than the standard RV or camper, no worries, this place is spacious enough to accommodate just about any size (and even large group sizes). The campground was both kid and pet friendly. Also, I found the on-site campground management team to be incredibly over-friendly (nice Southern hospitality!) and accommodating.

From an amenities standpoint, this place is completely full-service (in fact, they’ll escort you right to your campsite!). They’ve got a small, but clean swimming pool, laundr-O-mat, spartan restroom facilities and a propane pump on-site. WiFi is available for free and cable is offered for a small price if you need that. Overall, I found the place to be very well-organized, incredibly clean and exceptionally safe with round-the-clock security.

With nature in mind, this place is in close proximity to quite a bit – from Gautier, MS who’s moniker is ‘Nature’s Playground,’ there’s tons of wildlife to see, decent outdoor recreation and hiking to be found and bayous all over the place to drop your kayak or canoe into.

Insider’s tip? Some of the best kayaking was had in and around Mississippi - Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. Closer to the campground though, you’ll find a splendid little Southern town in the City of Gautier, which has some quiet boutique-type shops, Southern restauarnts (I strongly recommend Belle’s on the Bayou or Country Gentleman), farmers market on the weekends, nice municipal parks and even some art exhibits from time to time. All in all, I strongly recommend Santa Maria RV Resort Marina if you’re looking for a decent stop along your travels.

    Happy Camping!

Guide to Eight Mile

Near Eight Mile, Alabama, RV sites and campgrounds offer access to Mobile Bay's coastal environments across varied terrain. The region maintains a humid subtropical climate with mild winters where temperatures rarely drop below freezing and hot summers averaging 90°F. Camping facilities in the area range from basic sites to developed RV parks with varying levels of privacy between sites.

What to do

Hiking historical trails: At Apalachee RV Campground - Blakeley State Park, visitors can explore preserved areas from the 1800s. "Great park with a ton of historically preserved areas from the 1800's," notes John W., adding that wildlife is abundant with "deer that come very close."

Kayaking waterways: The region offers multiple paddling options near camping areas. Christie M. mentions that Blakeley State Park has "kayaking trails all around in the park and local," providing water recreation while still being "close by to big city life but camping in the wild yonder."

Swimming options: Several campgrounds maintain swimming facilities for summer recreation. At Bay Palms RV Resort, Elizabeth Z. reports they "went in March" hoping to use the heated pool but found it "ice cold" though it "looked nice and clean for summer use."

Fishing opportunities: The Styx River area provides fishing access, though results vary. At The Retreat RV & Campground On Styx River, Patricia noted it was an "awesome campground but no fish" though still a "great place for families with little ones."

What campers like

Large camping spaces: Campers frequently mention the spaciousness at certain parks. Christie M. appreciated that Blakeley State Park offers "big camping spaces - semi private" while Ryan & Lorri R. noted that All About Relaxing RV Park has "well landscaped" sites despite being "a little cramped/close together."

Outstanding customer service: Several parks receive praise for staff assistance. Clayton D. shared that at All About Relaxing RV Park, the owners "took us to our pull through spot, helped us get lined up, and greeted us like old friends!"

Quiet environment: Many campers value the peaceful settings. Lori found Magnolia Springs RV Hideaway to be a "quiet, friendly campground" with "good size" sites in a "well-maintained" park "within an easy drive to the gulf."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Prepare for uneven sites at some campgrounds. Chloe F. advises for The Retreat campground: "make sure you bring leveling blocks, some of the sites are fairly level while others are not. Our site sloped down towards the river and we needed extra blocks."

Wi-Fi reliability issues: Internet access varies significantly. At Magnolia Springs RV Hideaway, Lori experienced "intermittent wi-fi signal" issues during their multi-month stays, while Elizabeth Z. found the Wi-Fi at Bay Palms "pretty unusable for us."

Varied shower conditions: Hot water availability differs between locations. At Citronelle Lakeview RV Park, the "bath house is great and has a washer and dryer" according to JD J., but Gregg K. reported having "no hot showers all week" during their stay at Bay Palms.

Limited grocery and dining options: Stock up before arriving at certain locations. Elizabeth Z. advises: "Luckily we brought most of the food we needed because there is no nearby fast food and limited grocery stores" near Bay Palms, noting "mainly seafood or pizza restaurants around."

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated kid spaces: Some campgrounds offer specific children's areas. Amber L. notes that The Retreat "offers several amenities including showers, laundromat, and gas grills. There are even bouncy houses and playgrounds for the kids."

Pet-friendly features: For families traveling with pets, Winner's Circle RV Resort earns praise from Jareth C. who found "easy check in, great office personnel, clean, safe and nice amenities" including pet accommodations.

Water recreation access: Cameron C. highlights that Homestead RV Community has features children appreciate: "The dog park is so big and our pups were able to really run around and get their energy out" plus "the pool is beautiful."

Safety considerations: Secure campgrounds provide peace of mind for families. Cbryner notes that Mobile Oaks RV Resort (formerly Johnny's RV Resort) offers a "pretty quiet park with security gates and cameras" though the reviewer also mentions "a lot of long term worker campers."

Tips from RVers

Site navigation challenges: RVers should assess maneuverability before booking. Tom reports at The Retreat: "The RV sites are not on any type of paved or level ground and are not suitable for larger RVs" adding they're "VERY close together and there are a lot of trees."

RV size considerations: Larger rigs may face limitations at certain parks. Chloe F. notes their "35 feet travel trailer" was "quiet tight getting into our spot" at The Retreat, adding "we would not have been able to park where we were had there been a camper next to us."

Hookup variations: Check specific site utilities before arriving. The Retreat currently has "limited" full-service hookups during expansion according to Amber L., though "they do have plenty of water/power hookups both off and on the river."

Concrete pad availability: Some rv sites near Eight Mile, Alabama feature concrete surfaces for easier setup. Monica B. appreciates that Homestead RV Community offers "large concrete sites" along with "friendly host and guest" and the "best Wi-Fi ever."
