Best Equestrian Camping near Kiln, MS

Big Foot Horse Trail and Camp offers primitive camping in a forested setting near Kiln, Mississippi. This free, USFS-managed equestrian campground features spacious campsites surrounded by pine forests. The facilities are basic, with vault toilets but no drinking water, electric hookups, or showers. Both tent and RV camping are available with drive-in access. Watch where you step as the grounds contain horse manure throughout the camping areas. While the campground lacks dedicated horse corrals, the site layout accommodates horses and their owners with ample space between sites.

The Big Foot Horse Trail connects directly to the campground, providing immediate access to riding routes through the De Soto National Forest. Trails wind through wooded terrain suitable for day rides of varying lengths. Campers should bring their own water supply for both personal use and for horses as no drinking water is available on site. The campground's primitive nature attracts serious trail riders seeking a rustic experience rather than luxury accommodations. While facilities are limited, the free camping and direct trail access make it popular with equestrians traveling through southern Mississippi. The location provides reasonable proximity to Kiln while maintaining the secluded forest setting that horse campers typically prefer.

    Land-O-Pines Family Campground

    Pleasant campground

Land-O-Pines is a nice private RV park near Folsom and Covington. We stayed two nights because my daughter was in a horse competition at a nearby horse farm. The sites are mostly shady. The streets and sites are gravel and can get a little muddy in spots after a rain. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. About half the sites are for permanent users.

Stayed in pull-through campsite C69 which was shady and level. It was a gravel site. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby by not on top of you. The site included: picnic table on gravel, no fire ring. Utilities: 20/50A electric near the middle. The 20A receptacle looked like it had some minor burn marks. Water next to power pole, good pressure. Sewer near power pole with 4 non screw-on fitting.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon full bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 30.8 Mbps down, 3.6 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 4.5 Mbps down, 11.8 Mbps up. WiFi available, but did not use. Required a login.

Would stay here again. We camped at Land-O-Pines Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

    Flint Creek Waterpark

    Beautiful lake view

Second time at Flint Creek in Wiggins Mississippi. Stayed during the middle of January of 2021 on site 29.

The back of the site backs up to the lake, with plenty of beach to fish or hangout. This site would be perfect during the summer if you wanted to swim. The site had full hookups with 50amp connection. Plenty of space between sites. Also there are several shower/restrooms located throughout the Seneca Campground.

Only thing negative about the site was that it was not level. I had to add an extra step to get in and out of my travel trailer.

    Will definitely go back.

So glad I decided to stay here. This is a great park tucked away from everything yet only 15 minutes to bourbon street and 10 minutes to Frenchmen. Great place to stay on the water.

    Creekside Farm Co.

    Great place!

I was the only camper there but sites are pretty spread out regardless. We had direct access to the creek. The bathroom, sink, grill, and shower were just a quick walk up the hill. Shower was cold water only but honestly so nice after a hot day. They have tons of vegetation to look at, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and peacocks. There’s a small fishing pond too. You can follow the trail around the back of the pond and see the bunker and balcony. Will definitely be back! Only complaint is the ants were terrible! Idk where they kept coming from but definitely put up anything with food (even in tubs) up while not in use. Dogs are allowed but need to be on a lead. They have two dogs too, Mocha will come around to the campsites and creeks to say hi and want sticks to be thrown. Randy up there was super helpful too and good company. Everyone honestly was just so nice.

New Orleans RV Resort & Marina

    NOLA on the water

Nice & easy clean resort. They pick up your trash by noon, LP pickup/refill, shower hot, store, pool, hot tub, sitting areas with rockers, laundry, dog area and great restaurant/sport bar. Had excellent crab cake and bisque. -2 roadways to enter/exit resort. A car can drive toward north but some potholes would not advise RV on road toward lake pontchaitrain.

    Flint Creek Waterpark

    Nice and Woodsy

Flint Creek has a little of everything for everyone. There’s a large lake which is good fishing (there’s a boat launch in the park and in the campground itself) beach swimming areas (one for day use and the other for the campers) there’s an updated water park with slides and a lazy river. The water for this is pumped in from the lake so it’s not a fresh blue water like in a swimming pool! There’s a section of first come first served campsites and a section of reservation only sites. All the sites are blacktopped and are very nice. The bathhouses could use some attention though. The town of Wiggins has lots of restaurants and grocery stores very close by.

    Flint Creek Waterpark

Tons of sites and something for everyone!

Flint creek has TONS of sites with full hook ups in 30 and/or 50 amp and even a primitive (water only) tent sites. Different sections allow folks to feel like they are away from the crowds.  Price is absolutely reasonable and there is night security by staff and local law enforcement.

The water park has a ton of slides and will keep kids young and old entertained sliding down the hill into the lake.

Several swimming holes and boat ramps lets you enjoy the lake however you want.

New Orleans RV Resort & Marina

    Interesting location, a hidden gem.

The biggest drawbacks are the drive up and the ... Flight for life? Helicopter that keeps passing over. The amenities are top notch, the sites are great. The price is a premium, but it's legit. We wanted a presidential site for its private hot tub, but apparently the one available isn't free for our duration. We got one next to it and it shares the excellent Waterfront view. The communal pool and hot tub are great to relax in after our long drive in. Looking forward to exploring the city which is right down the road.
