Primitive State Forest CG right on the Boardman River

I like the location; very secluded in the State Forest but only a half hour from downtown Traverse City. This facility meets the recreation need of a diverse cross section of Michigan residents. It’s a great home base or overnight camp for canoeists and kayakers (my particular interest). The camp…

A must stay

This was a wonderful campground, we can’t find one thing to complain about. Everything was super clean and spots were wonderful. Tons of activities for kids.

Great Family Fun

Timber Ridge is clean. Great family fun. We stay for a week with the family (5-8 campsites) with this group. Kids have fun. Large campground. Near so many things to do or just stay out here!!

Rustic and RV

We visit this campground at least 1-2 times per year (spring-summer) and occasionally once in fall. The rustic sites are spacious and are private enough —some more private than others. All have some view of the lake and all have easy access to launches. The modern portion of the park has wooded…

Beautiful campground and lake

Very nice and peaceful campground right on Lake Dubonnet, perfect for kayaking. 2.5 mile hiking/biking trail on perimeter. Big sites most on lake and quiet.

Beautiful lake Campground is filthy

The Lake gets 5 stars, so if you’re going to kayak or boat, you’ll love it. The campground is filthy. Took me 1/2 hour to clean up the trash and cigarette butts before I could set up my tent. I kept smelling a horrible smell, then realized the dumpster was across the road wafting to my campsite,…

Friendly camp host

I enjoyed this campground quiet for the most part except for one guest wanting to play his music really loud at 11:00 p.m. at night but that was shut down. There is restrooms no running water at the restrooms. There is a spot to get water on the loop. There is firewood for sale at the camp host…

Good for RV Rally

We stayed July 2021 for an RV rally. We had no building of shelter for community gatherings. But, weather cooperated and we had a great time.

Power 50/30 were fine. Water is a shared spigot on most sites, but some sites have water. There is a good dump station. Sites are level. No landscaping.…

Great location, a bit crowded.

Nice spot in the center of the park. Spots are small and close together. We travel with a rooftop tent and many were steep angles, something to keep in mind if you are a vehicle camper. Great access to trails and beach, perfect for biking and short nearby hikes. Vault toilets only, in decent…

Great beach access

I wish we could have enjoyed this campground on a hot summer day. We stayed 2 nights and it rained the entire time. The sites have decen privacy and are spacious. The pit toilets are kept clean and are better than most because if the natural light. The beach is beautiful and easy to access from…

First Time Impression

Stayed here 7 nights, Campground rules not followed by other campers (very sad that some campers do NOT know, or care, about "Campground Courtesy") & not inforced by Campground management. Quite time is 9 pm to 9 am, campers party & kids running all over until after 11 p.m. & LATER.…

Stunning sunsets!

We didn’t have reservations but took a chance on the first-come sites and are we ever glad we did! The dunes were amazing! A short walk from the camping loops, the dunes open to the amazing shore of Lake Michigan. Take a stroll on the sandy beaches or wade into the sandy-bottom cool waters of the…

Quiet, clean, dog and family friendly

A peaceful, quiet stay on Lake Michigan. There are four campground loops. We stayed in a Violet Loop campsite, which seemed to be mostly available on a first serve basis (probably because it is farthest from the beach). We arrived at 8:00 pm on a Saturday night, really hoping for a site. There were…

Great camping near Lake Michigan

Lake MI Rec area is a perfect spot for rustic camping close to Lake MI. Sites are nicely sized and well spaced from each other. A 10 minute-ish level walk leads to a beautiful Lake MI beach. The orchid and hemlock loops have bathrooms with running water, oak and violet have well maintained pit…
